The best restaurants in Westport

04/04/2024: An File Bar (the poet)* in Westport, Ireland, was our favorite eatery when we visited Ireland in April 2022. After our first lunch there, we couldn’t wait to return and did so several times. The traditional Irish pub is on the Octagon in the heart of Westport in County Mayo. It is a favorite of locals, but visitors like us also drop in for BL&D. The food is traditional Irish pub grub made from fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The menu is brief but covers the basics. The full-service bar serves Guinness (and other beer), wine, and spirits. The menu covers the basics of Irish cuisine. OUR FAVORITES — --Bangers and mash served with onion gravy and tasty red cabbage --Vegetable soup and brown bread (I could swim in the soup and live forever on the hearty brown bread and Irish butter) --Chicken sandwich on brown bread was made with chunks of chicken breast, Irish cheddar and fresh greens --Green salad with panko-crumbed goat cheese (a meal in itself) --Seafood chowder – don’t pass this one up; I still crave the creamy soup filled with tidbits of cod, shrimp, and mussels --A glass of prosecco is perfect with either soup --Guinness is a match for everything --Always ask for brown bread; it is unforgettable, healthy, and hearty Stop into An File in Westport for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a creamy Guinness. You’ll be glad you did. *This memory was inspired by family traveling in Ireland and eating at An file Bar Westport. We are so jealous!

We are in Westport on holidays and we were looking for a good breakfast and we were recommended here, and it was all excellent, Full Irish very filling and with quality ingredients, delicious onion jam, and the soup of the day was also very tasty, very good prices! ! I also want to highlight Max's great attention and kindness!! Recommended 100%

13/03/2024: We stopped off on the way to the airport with our little one. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Great music playing! Lots of room. We would definitely visit again!

30/03/2024: Cozy restaurant with excellent service. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was good and plentiful. We had the burger and the haloumi salad with onion rings.

26/02/2024: Brought a friend who was visiting Ireland for the first time to this charming and unique little Tapas Bar last November. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere but when we got the bill we were really taken aback. We shared a cheese board/sharing platter which was approximately 27/28 euro. On the menu it stated it was this price for 2 people to share. When the bill arrived it 28 euro x 2 which was unexpected- 56 euro for 2 sharing . We definitely would not have ordered this platter if we had known it was double the price and feel it should have been explained to us before hand either on the menu or in person.

10/02/2024: Hidden gem in Westport. We loved our night there, the food, atmosphere, and surroundings were perfect. Highly recommend for anyone making the trip to Westport and looking for something special and a bit different.

23/03/2024: We've never had such a bad meal in Ireland. The waiters were all unfriendly. We were seated at a table that was barely lit. I hardly saw my counterpart or my food. We ordered Cola without ice (it was too cold for ice cubes for us). We only got half-full glasses. We weren't nearly full from the main course (seafood) and we're not gluttons. The bill was then simply slapped on the table. We then had to go to the counter to pay. It was just terrible!

05/03/2024: Dog friendly and amazing brunch. Booking for weekend brunch would be advised as it was busy and people were queuing outside.

28/01/2024: Decent food for the money , portions are generous, fast, friendly and easy going service. Nice location, good drink menu with locally crafted beers. One of the best place for lunch in Westport.

15/03/2024: What a fabulous place! Left myself short for time and was in kinda hurry to see the house. Liked that history posts were long enough to remember, but not overdone. Amazing staff. Amazing grounds to enjoy the walk. Definitely will be back as it is so worth visiting. ❤

31/08/2023: Probably one of the best views of any restaurant in Ireland. Big hotel dining room so not v buzzy. Staff are great. Lovely flavours in the quail starter and the pork main. But they left off the crackling for some inexplicable reason and the side plate of veg was over cooked like a banquet service. Let's the meal down when the broccoli and green beans are too soft to pick up with a fork !!

03/02/2024: Delightful place in the centre of Westport. Great food using locally sourced products. Wonderful selection of Irish cheeses and charcuterie. Jolly atmosphere which can be assisted with a glass or two of wine from the special selection. Alain, the proprietor can advise.

09/10/2023: My husband and I had a wander in Westport before heading back home after attending a wedding and stumbled upon here. We bought cheese and onion pasties, gluten free caramel shortcake, almond bakewell all around €2.50 each. We also bought a Sourdough bread and star of the show olive and rosemary bread priced around €3.80. Lovely to see a proper bakery charging what I felt were reasonable prices for a quality tasty product. Onwards success.
