The best restaurants in Cork city council

24/09/2026: Was in a queue for the self checkout, there was only 1 working at the time and there were people ordering just before me, but one of the staff members asked me if I can use kiosk. I said that I would like to use self checkout as I was not sure what I wanna get so I wanna browse the menu and explained that to the lady. However, she said “I am closing the self checkout so you have to use the kiosk”. It was 20 mins before closing. Left honestly disappointed. No hassle tho to use a kiosk but like I wanted to use the self till for a reason Went to Wendy’s and they literally had all of their checkouts working, however they’re both closing 9pm. Just feel like service could’ve been more welcoming.

05/06/2026: Sorry in advance for long review. I have stayed in this hotel many times, as it's close to where my family grew up and I have a nostalgic link to it. I requested a twin room as we were travelling as brother and sister for a funeral. Hotel agreed but when we arrived we were given a double. The lady on reception realised this and then gave us a twin room on 5th floor. Room given was 527 and it had a really bad musty smell. But as we were only staying two nights we didn't want to request another change. That evening when we arrived back to hotel the lift was broken and I was asked to walk to the 5th floor as other lift didn't service the room I was in. My sister had a broken foot and shoulder and I refused to walk her up to the 5th floor. The 2 people on reception went out of their way to help (Sam the night manager and another). It was not their fault and they gave exemplary service. Eventually we were moved and I had to move my luggage at 11.30 pm. Others in the lobby also had to walk to 4 and 5th floors. I would have expected a 4 star hotel to have access to all rooms. By the day we left the lift still wasn’t working. We were put in room 515 which could be accessed by the 2nd lift and again problems. Bathroom door didn't shut, windows didn't open, bathroom sink didn't drain. I am usually a very positive person and realise that things do break down but wow so many. My only good experiences of the stay were the excellent staff and breakfast. I did contact the hotel afterwards and received a stock response that they were sorry they failed to meet expectations and please try them again. I have looked at the hotel responses on here from other recent bad reviews and it looks like a cut and paste job (“it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience”). Feedback hasn’t worked so far!! I have always stayed in the Shandon Court when I visited family in Cork but this will be the last time. Some other members of my family stayed in the newly opened Dean, cheaper rate, more facilities and better rooms. There is also a new hotel less than five minutes away. I am extremely disappointed with the hotel and will go elsewhere in the future. The Maldron organisation needs to seriously start thinking about resolving the issues in this hotel and respond individually rather than a cut and paste job.

18/05/2026: The hotel is clean, and on this occasion, quiet. The curtains do not exclude light sufficiently. We had to change rooms as there was a plumbing problem in our first room--the hot water tap in the tub would not turn off and whistled, loudly, and the cold water tap did not work at all. There were problems with the door to the room one and the door to the bathroom in the other: They dragged on the floor, which for the bathroom made it very difficult to close the door. The food for breakfast was mediocre. Fresh fruit was good, but scrambled eggs were not. The coffee was not good and we needed to go to a nearby coffee house to have a decent coffee.

13/09/2026: Terrible Quality Control — Horrible Texture & Cold/Stale Food Visited this location for the first time with a friend. While the portion of waffle fries was decent, the rest of the meal was completely inedible. The chicken had a soft, spongy, tofu-like texture—a huge red flag for poor quality meat or bad prep—and my friend noticed her mashed potatoes weren't fresh at all. Shortly after eating, I was hit with awful stomach cramps, gas, and diarrhea. Serving food of this quality is completely unacceptable. I won't be returning and suggest going elsewhere

26/08/2026: Zero stars. If people had any sense they would stop going to this place. The staff are unbelievably bad. Very disorganised and chaotic, can’t get off their phones for two minutes. Unhelpful and uninterested. I had to go and collect my own plate of food again today because it was sitting there for 10 minutes. The young girl handed down one of our meals and then went missing. As another reviewer has pointed out; all they have to do in this place to get paid is clean the tables and hand out the food and they can’t even manage to do that. A bunch of 10-year-olds could do a better job. In fairness to one of the girls she did apologise, but for the price of the food it’s a joke. It costs between €35.00 to €50.00 for two people to eat here, not including any appetisers or desserts, and you have to do absolutely everything yourself; go to the counter to order the food, get your own drinks, get your own cutlery, and now collect your own food as well. If you want a “chicken restaurant” I would encourage people to go to Nandos instead, where the food is equally as good, and they actually take note of what the customers are saying in the reviews

28/09/2026: Never seen a subway thats getting worse by the day! Quality of food for something thats supposed to be toasted came out as cold as if it was in the fridge all day and it was opened right after getting the food.. ordered a 6inch with a smarties cookie (which i didnt even get the cookie) also irdered 2 footlongs and 2 portuions of hash browns had to go back to get my second portion of hashbrowns since i only got one and to make things worse the response i got was “sorry new guy in training” even though the poor young fella only made our subs didnt bag it or anything and to top things off our food came with a used glove (which i dont remember asking for)

24/07/2026: Great place to have Italian pizza.. Warm friendly staff.

08/07/2026: This place looks a bit dirty. The staff are friendly, but what really put me off was that when the girl started making the pizza, after being on her phone, she didn’t wash her hands or wear gloves before touching the dough. Phones carry thousands of bacteria—just think about it, you take them to the bathroom and everywhere else. 😩
