Macari's Take Away Glasnevin
Dublin
11/02/2025: Great food and the staff are very friendly
29/01/2025: I had an awful urge to have a spice bag as a treat once a week, but my local Chinese Takeawy only takes cash, and I had none only my card. Hungry and cold, I went into the Macaris Take Away next door. Disappointed not to be having a spice bag, I walked into Macaris only to be hit with the most amazing aroma, and in a millisecond, my craving for a spice bag vanished. The menu was mouthwatering, and my dilemma began what to order. However, I was only I the door and asked for my order in my panic. I said one fresh cod and 3 chips. Done order put it, but my mind was racing, asking me questions like you fool, what about smoked cod, batterburger, or even chicken? I was distracted by the good banter with customers and staff. Everyone was in top form. My order was ready. Do you want chips separate or all together? I was asked, but of course, altogether. Salt and vinegar, I was asked again, as much as you wan, I said. The bag of food was handed to me like I was receiving the World Cup. I live locally, but my drive home seemed endless as my anticipation was getting out of control. I rang home to have plates warmed and bread buttered for the most glorious of sandwiches a chip butty;. I
was received by my wife, son, and yes, our dog, a hero. We ate our food in complete silence while watching Deadpool and Wolverine. Thank you, Macaris. we had a wonderful evening eating simple food cooked to perfection and all because I did not have cash. How fortuitous was that?

Brewbaker Cafe
Dublin
27/05/2025: What a welcome! What a breakfast!
Even if we never return to Dublin, we'll never forget our two wonderful breakfasts here :-)
09/05/2025: Friday 9th may 10.15am went into the brewbaker to get a bacon sausage egg roll with a can of coke was charged 12.50 wtf
?
Opened the roll up to find one rasher one sausage and a fried egg.
Now I don't mind paying for a roll but what the he'll is going on ?????
Prices well up and quantity downwards.
Maybe it has been taking over but I seen the homemade apple cakes the young man who use to be there his father made them.
I'm sorry to bomb you on this review but I feel ripped off and won't be returning again to purchase. It would of been better to sit down for the extra 2 euro and get the full size breakfast.

Romayo's Balally
Dublin
20/05/2025: It was recently upgraded to a diner. Always clean and everything is new. When I'm down on my luck on a rainy afternoon I like to treat myself and eat in at Romayos Balally. The atmosphere is perfect because they play radio Nova and the lads are so welcoming and polite.
The staff at Romayos Balally are a credit to your business. I've been there twice since the new year to sit in with a 10" Margarita Pizza and they always bring me a little extra portion of chips and say "it's on the house". I guess they are the old chips that were not fit to sell but it still warms my soul to be shown their kindness and I always enjoy the gesture and the chips.
I love your little diner on a rainy day. its so close at hand as I live in the estate next door. Tasty food is one thing but hospitality is what makes five stars. Thank you and well done.

John Clarke & Sons South Dock
Dublin
16/04/2025: Not a True Kiwi Welcome – A Heartbreaking Night for My Boys
As a single mother of two dual US–NZ citizen sons, I walked into John Clarke & Sons South Dock hoping for a moment of connection—a quiet beer at what I thought was a Kiwi bar, in honor of my boys’ heritage and their late father, who tragically passed away of a heart attack at 38. He was a proud New Zealander and a former pro rugby player. Since his passing, my sons have spent their lives searching for pieces of him—in culture, in sport, in identity. I thought maybe, just maybe, this bar would offer that sense of home.
At first, I noticed the All Blacks flag flying above the bar. Signed jerseys on the wall reminded me of ones our family has lovingly collected. I’ve had the incredible honor of meeting most of the All Blacks team back when Richie McCaw was captain. I even have a photo with him. When I showed it to a woman sitting at the bar—just trying to make light conversation and share a proud memory—she cruelly said “It should be her” in the photo. It was a bitter, unnecessary jab.
I was sitting quietly with my nephew, showing photos of my now 18-year-old son—massive, athletic, and kind—who has been playing first-string football and rugby since he was in 3rd grade. As I spoke with some men at the bar, this same woman turned sharply, told me I wasn’t “invited” and needed to leave. The bartender said nothing. Not a word. Not even a hint of welcome or concern. Just silence.
My sons were so excited to visit this place later that night—hoping to feel something of the Kiwi spirit their father passed on to them. But we left, humiliated. I was devastated. My boys, who already carry the heavy pain of losing their dad so young, said this was the first time they felt ashamed to be Kiwis. Imagine that—young men grieving the loss of their identity, trying to find family through travel, being pushed away from what should have been a warm, familiar place.
I was treated like rubbish. But it wasn’t me I cried for—it was my boys. Their father died young. I’ve carried this family on my own. And all we wanted was a place to feel proud of who we are. That woman at the bar wasn’t just rude—she was a villain to two boys who just wanted to belong.
No true Kiwi bar would act this way. No Kiwi hospitality would let a grieving widow and her sons feel so small.
Shame on the silence. Shame on the hostility. And shame on a bar that flies the All Blacks flag without the mana to honor what it stands for.
22/12/2024: Very tasty beer. Wicklow wolf IPA and PALE. I recommend

03/06/2025: Cute and traditional café located in the center of Dublin. Here you can get a traditional Irish breakfast among other options like bagels, sandwiches and wraps.
The staff was very friendly and even brought the food to our table.
The food was sensational and gave us a sense of tradition inside of a modern city like Dublin. We would recommend this place to have breakfast or coffee any day!
