The best restaurants in Dublin

24/03/2025: I'm very sorry to say that the food, service, atmosphere, and value for money for this place have all taken a nose dive. 5 years ago I gave this place a 5 star review, with the comments below. After last night's experience I am being generous to give it two stars. First they changed the recipe of the nachos dish we were so fond of, and ignored our repeated requests to revert to the original recipe. Inexplicably they just reduced the amount of nachos, while maintaining the same amount of sauces. That's fine if you like spoonfuls of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on each soggy nacho, but it completely ruined a fine dish. We kept going there because the chicken wings were worth it. Last night though they also managed to destroy this dish too by smothering the wings in some kind of extra hot chilli sauce. Service was also poor. 5 years ago our server was attentive and easily called. Last night no one seemed to be responsible for our table. In the half empty premises it was hard to get a waiter's attention, even to pay the bill. As I paid I was expecting the usual "how was your meal" question so that I could express my disappointment, but we weren't asked so I didn't bother. Costs go up, and restaurants have to balance the books, but last night's meal was almost double what it was a few years ago, but it's hard to take when everything was so poor. Little doubt then that the place was half empty. It is sad to see this happening to a restaurant that so recently was a thriving, buzzy place. -------------------------------------------- Here's my review from 5 years ago. I like this place and visit regularly. The food is good, the atmosphere is busy, if a little noisy but that doesn't bother me. The service is always friendly, and the prices are very reasonable, especially for a restaurant in fashionable Ranelagh. Be warned, some of the portions are huge. Between two of us we frequently share a nachos starter, and for our main course we share a starter portion of chicken wings with one side of chips. That's two starters and a single portion of chips and we struggle to eat it all. Not all the portion sizes are that generous, but if you're like me & hate wasting food, ask your server.

02/04/2025: Popped in here for a coffee before getting a train from Connolly station. Such sweet and friendly staff, they brightened up my day (and that of everyone who came in!). Heart warming to stumble across places like these.

22/03/2025: Ah this pub is great. I hadn't been here in years. We went in March 2025 for Cheltenham. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Easy to see they appreciated your business. Loads of tables and nooks and crannies. Plenty of TVs for the sport. They also did a special food menu for that week with good prices. Nice pint of Guinness as well. It's a little bit out of my way but based on the great service and atmosphere I'll make the effort to go.

15/03/2025: Bolands is an absolute gem of a pub! The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and has that quintessential feel of home. The staff are fantastic, but special mention has to go to Chantelle, "the boss". She’s an absolute star—friendly, attentive, and has an amazing knack for making everyone feel welcome. Her skills are out of this world, and her recommendations were spot-on. Whether you're popping in for a quiet pint or a lively night with friends, Bolands never disappoints. Can’t wait to visit again!

13/03/2025: Terrible experience at this cafe. Bald male worker made me feel extremely uncomfortable as he stared and my chest and then proceeded to wink at me. Felt unsafe - women avoid.

07/04/2025: Bit of a mixed review! The cafe is always busy, which speaks for itself! Great food & coffee! Just wish service was a bit faster & efficient. Feel like it’s very hard to get the staffs attention at times & almost like there’s a lack of urgency even when it’s really busy. A great place overall

16/03/2025: I have been eating here for a while ,always found the service and food rather good, On Sunday the 16th march 2025 Me and both sons went to eat here at 10:08 I ordered a soup and sandwich for my son and a full irish for me , a latte and an orange juice for my son. It came to €35! We paid and waited 40 minutes No food! I got fed up and went to ask what was the wait. There was only jen z's At the service all laughing and not serious about their work. I was annoyed at the response I got so I asked for my money back , nobody asked was everything ok ! Not worth the wait and ran by kids! In my opinion it's gone to the dogs.

19/03/2025: Dine here often - staff are very friendly amd customer focused. I have a daughter who is on the spectrum and the staff are always very accomodating when we visit. Food is always top class - recommend to all.

04/03/2025: THE BEST SCONES IN DUBLIN. The owner is so kind, and the food and coffee is excellent. Be sure to get a scone, because even if you don't like scones these will be the best you have ever had. The PERFECT consistency of buttery, flakey, and delicious.

30/03/2025: Customer service was shocking didn’t give me my food till my i told me order even though i had already given my name they also threatened to not give the whole store there food for no apparent reason

18/02/2025: I ordered a 8oz steak and it was 5oz at best (I also asked for it to be medium-rare and it was very well done which is disappointing for €37.50), service was fine (our waiter was friendly but didn’t speak English very well so couldn’t answer any questions about the menu), atmosphere was nice (pianist downstairs every evening).
