11/04/2026: This is simply the best restaurant I've ever eaten at in my fifty years on this earth. I am half considering moving to Ireland just to live near this place and eat there for the rest of my life. The food was beyond anything I've eaten, like the sandwich wasn't just a good sandwich that happened to be delicious, when I took a bite through the crust of the bread it crunched like a great baguette but then it was *magic* and I swear it dissolved into an effervescence of flavor that didn't even require chewing, it just melted into pure amazing mouth love. Yes, I am making up phrases to try to describe how good it was. And this was the Sandwich! My son received mussels in a garlic butter white wine sauce (I think) that made his fourteen year old soul want to propose to the cook. He has offered his entire life savings for the recipe. Everything was amazing. The homemade brownie taught my wife that sundaes can be more than just a pile of ice cream, that they can be as delicate a creation as any recipe, and be a special thing. They apologized to us that they were just starting out making lunches and these were all recipes they hadn't gotten to perfect yet... I am almost afraid of how good the established tested and polished recipes for dinners must be. I envy you if you get to find out.

07/03/2026: Had a meal here today. Waitress was lovely and food was quite nice. Unfortunately only the seats outside at the back are dog friendly but the staff sorted out some nice blankets to wrap up in. Would visit again. :-)

20/04/2026: Ballymaloe is a magical place. We returned for the fifth time this Easter as part of a big family group. We stayed for three nights. Everything was perfect - the food, the service, the rooms, the grounds. So much goes on behind the scenes to make this place special, it is a truly wonderful experience. Farm to fork, the food here is top class. It’s hard to beat it. My favourite hotel in Ireland. Thank you to all the team in Ballymaloe for creating another special Easter!

21/03/2026: My mother and I treated ourselves to two nights here as we'd visited before and it looked fab. Although the dinner in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were pleasant, our room was another story. Multiple times through email and over the phone we requested twin beds but found of course just a double bed when we arrived. Not a huge problem and it was rectified fairly quickly. But the room itself was very basic and lacking in niceties. No tv (not a problem for me) but to my news addicted mother it was a letdown. Even with the radiator turned off and both windows open at night it was uncomfortably hot and stuffy to sleep in. No tea/coffee making facilities, the radio/sound box thing was broken. On the last morning we found that there was no toilet roll or shower gel left. Luxury hotel? far from it.

29/03/2026: It is rare to enjoy a truly memorable dinner in at least a 💮💮 Michelin for the price of an affordable 💮 Michelin. Bastion is one of those rare opportunities. Kinsale is far from all the main cities. The closest airports are Cork and Shannon, and then you have to drive. But Kinsale is a lovely Irish seaside village with genuine Irish warmth. At first, Bastion is a simple, cosy restaurant, bathed in this genuine warmth and the caring smiles of all the staff. But as the menu begins, you gradually realise you are tasting a stunning, unique, world-class gastronomy. The enchantment is in absolutely all the dishes, a symphony of creative yet well-balanced flavours. This symphony becomes almost divine if you choose their wine pairing, which is of great finesse, complementing the dishes in an expert way you rarely find. The only thing you might have a bit of back-and-forth about is the dessert, for being only a good dessert. Bastion looks like a normal, nice restaurant, not on any major route, which is probably why it has only one 💮. But gastronomically, my goodness, it is very close to the world very best. And, it matters, they are passionate and friendly. A lifetime experience!

11/01/2026: Food is always so fresh and delicious. Their scampi is worth travelling for as is all the fish. The roast dinners are always gorgeous and tender, and homemade. Then for lunch, the soups and paninis are delicious, especially with the homecooked ham in the toasted sambos.

21/02/2026: The location of this pub is great as long as you're ok with parking on a tight road! Great accomodating service and can get quite busy as it is very popular, particularly when the weather is good and you can take in its surroundings.
