20/12/2025: Great little pub/ restaurant. We got a last minute booking for 4 of us and I had never eaten here before but I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the portions are huge. The service came with a smile and friendly chat even though the staff were clearly on top of their heads. I will definitely be back soon.

08/12/2025: Great spot for food both during the week and for Sunday lunch. Not going to me tion my favourite in case it gets too popular.... well worth the visit.

22/01/2026: Lunch with family turned out to be rather disappointing. Ordered fish and chips & we were served two small pieces of fish as opposed to a full piece. Moreover, it was dripping in oil & the batter was soggy. At a cost of €18.50 that's unsatisfactory. Beetroot salad with oven baked vegetables....it was awful, greacy & tasteless! €13 - pricey! The sandwich ordered for a child was okay. Overall, disappointing & would not return.

03/01/2026: A fantastic 'destination pub' in Dundalk - terrific menu of delicious options, all served promptly by friendly staff. Wide ramge of beers, wines, cocktails and spirits for every taste and occasion, cannot recomnend highly enough! For us, the only thing missing was Marie, but we savour the memories

24/01/2026: Very friendly staff, very attentive. We mistakenly reserved the wrong date, however the receptionist dealt with my error, exceptionally respectfully, and got is a room for the night. Thank+you souch.

23/01/2026: My wife and I enjoyed a return visit to Scholars Townhouse for an overnight stay. We enjoyed previous stays and many dining occasions and I'm happy to say that the food quality is as good as ever. We appreciated the warm welcome and environment, as it was cold and wet outside. We arrived early and were allowed to park on the grounds while we went shopping downtown. Our room was very cosy and comfortable. There was a problem with a noisey fan in the bathroom - the mount had become loose and rattled continuously. The problem was solved while we dined so we were not inconvenienced. Each staff member was friendly and professional. Christian appeared to be everywhere - in the bar, making cocktails, coffees and serving drinks, then in the restaurant serving meals, cleaning tables so we were very impressed by his work ethic and friendly demeanour. We slept well, although the room did become a bit too warm. Breakfast was memorable. Our server was very welcoming, polite, professional and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty. Checkout was easy and efficient (and possible to do it online, if desired) but it was not possible to leave a tip as part of the payment system. Our thanks to all the team members who contributed to making our stay so pleasurable.

18/01/2026: I got the duck and it was very good but what feels like half the things on the menu were unavailable or different to the menu. It was very confusing and made it hard to choose what we wanted to eat.

16/01/2026: We had on amazing night here on New Year's Eve 2025, a beautiful meal in the restaurant served by very friendly staff, food was absolutely delicious. Then into the bar for drinks and I can honestly say the management and team are so so welcoming and friendly. Such a lovely clean bar, and so homly. For the new years celebrations every table was given large baskets of more delicious 😋 food I could not get over the generosity of the owners and we all partied the night away. Looking forward to returning ❤️

27/12/2025: After staying at the Ghan House in October 2024, we decided to have our wedding party there: We had our wedding at Ghan House with 70 guests on a Friday in early September 2025, and we honestly couldn’t have chosen a better venue. From the very beginning, communication during planning – and on the day itself – was excellent. The team was incredibly accommodating and made all of our requests and wishes possible in a reasonable and professional way. The service and staff were outstanding, including impeccable time keeping on the day. Everything ran smoothly, allowing us to fully enjoy ourselves. The venue itself is stunning – the house and garden are beautiful and create such a special atmosphere. Ghan House really feels like a sanctuary right in the centre of Carlingford, which is especially valuable on busy weekends when the town can turn into a crazy stag-party hotspot. One huge plus was that all guests could stay within walking distance, and it’s also just a short walk to St. Michael’s Church, which made logistics incredibly easy. The location is ideal for activities the day before or after the wedding – we enjoyed a hike to Slieve Foye, sauna time at Hot Box, golfing, and even joining the stag-party chaos at PJ’s for those who wanted it. The venue has a real house-party vibe, with different rooms to move between (bar room, fireplace room, etc.), which our guests absolutely loved. We received so many compliments on the atmosphere – everyone had an amazing time. Food was another highlight: very good quality, with excellent vegetarian and vegan options (plenty and well thought out). We chose the buffet, with starters and desserts served, which worked perfectly. The breakfast the next morning was also amazing. Also we were able to bring our own wine (for a corkage fee). In short: don’t hesitate – book it!! Ghan House exceeded all our expectations and gave us a wedding day we (and our guests) will never forget. 27/01/2026: I had a great experience at The Black Bull Inn in Drogheda, Ireland. The food was very good, and the service was also nice. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, making it a really lovely place to spend time with family.✨

31/12/2025: I had a great time here with friends, however the waitress was incredibly hostile and aggressive towards my table for no apparent reason. She repeatedly ignored our requests when we signalled for service. She rolled her eyes upon taking orders. She aggressively placed the dishes onto our tables while the other servers handled them with care. She did not have a pleasant attitude as a server which created a unwelcoming environment. The waitress had dark hair and facial piercings. I wish she is taken care of accordingly to prevent ruining others dining experience. I strongly hope this was a one off situation, as it has really tarnished my perception of the McGeoughs Bar and Restaurant. Lovely restaurant, hateful waitress.

31/12/2025: We came for my wife’s birthday. What a super little place. Good location for the town. Lovely, cosy atmosphere inside. The staff were excellent. And as for the food…. It was very good indeed. Everything we had was spot on. They even brought a candle out and sung Happy Birthday.
