The best restaurants in Westport

14/07/2025: Fabulous experience!! A group of us went there for my partner’s 30th birthday and the staff and owner went to great lengths to ensure she felt celebrated. The food was beautiful and the atmosphere unparalleled - could not recommend this restaurant more

12/07/2025: What a great evening we had at Sage. The staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. I had a mixed seafood starter and then grilled sea bass. Just excellent food. We all enjoyed everything that was put before us.

23/07/2025: A generously sized restaurant located in the heart of Westport, near the river. It has a veranda and outdoor seating. The restaurant is spread across several rooms, and there are several TVs for watching sports. I was there for dinner. The staff was attentive, helpful, and quick with their service. The food is good, although the menu isn't very varied. It's adequate, but unfortunately the beer selection isn't great. The dessert menu is good. I had soup and sea bass with puree and cooked vegetables.

20/07/2025: The food was excellent but unfortunately our experience was ruined by the service we received. We were rushed from the moment we arrived, despite having a reservation. We were given barely any time to read the menu and felt so uncomfortable for our whole meal. This was a special weekend away and probably the worst service I have experienced. Such a shame when the food was so good.

22/07/2025: We went twice in our Westport visit - in the day before music on a Monday and was fairly busy but sat at the bar and good craic. Went in the evening around 22.30 with the live music. This is not traditional and the guy was singing the Beatles and then I predicted American pie... Why when there's so many wonderful Irish bands and songs so was very disappointed but the venue itself is good and wouldn't hold that against them but it is typically always a singer it isn't session music like some think.

26/06/2025: We landed into The Creel right at the peak of lunchtime madness, fully expecting to be turned away or told to perch on a bench and pray. But no — the lovely waitress worked some kind of hospitality magic and squeezed us in. Saints in aprons, the whole lot of them. Every single staff member we encountered was absolutely lovely, with top-tier customer service and smiles so genuine I nearly cried into my napkin. Now, my friend came carb-loading for her gym session later that day, her bold shoulders graciously disguised under a classic pump cover. She absolutely demolished her food with grace and gusto while I waffled on about my life updates. So attentive was she to both her plate and my rambles, I nearly applauded. She even got a coffee with her meal AND for the road — that’s how good it was. As for me? I took a bold culinary risk and went for the Chicken Parmigiana, a dish I’d usually sidestep because tomatoes, in my view, are often just flung at food with reckless abandon. But I was wrong. So wrong. It was divine — balanced, comforting, and just what I didn’t know I needed. Life’s about risks, and this one paid off like a scratch card in Lidl. The chips? Beautifully crispy. The side salad? Actually seasoned and dressed, which tells you the kitchen really cares. (Speaking of dressing — unlike my friend who whipped off her pump cover mid-meal to flash the guns. We love confidence and chlorophyll.) The location is a solid 10/10 — you're a stone’s throw from Westport House, perfect for walking off your meal and your emotional baggage. And to top it off, I washed mine down with a gorgeous Irish-made pink lemonade that made me feel like I had my life together. Prices? More than reasonable for the quality you’re getting. Verdict? Go. Run, don’t walk. Maybe even do a bicep curl on the way.

05/07/2025: Nice pizzas, very fresh, good quality ingredients! Apart from the ham that was on the Hawaiian, seemed a bit fatty for my liking, so left that off! So the pizza's come on a large chopping board with paper underneath the pizza! Really didn't like the paper as I think when I was cutting the pizza, I was also eating the paper! So I would definitely ask not to have any paper underneath the pizza! Other than that, nice pizza's, nice staff, lovely and warm with a nice atmosphere! We will return again!

22/07/2025: Booked a table early evening. Were jammed into a corner on a high table despite restaurant being quiet. Food was mediocre...beef stew was more potato than beef, Hake was tough and chips undercooked. Kids meals were good but chips also under cooked. Very disappointed for the price paid Would not return

16/07/2025: We have been twice this week to The Helm. I don't know how we missed this place on previous visits to the Quays ..on sat night we have the seafood player with prawns, aalomi, crabs claws etc.An.array of beautifully 😋 tasting fresh fish Last night we returned.I.had been so disappointed with a poor seafood chowder we had whilst visiting Clifden the previous day - so I thought and hoped The Helm would offer a different proposition..Whaoo. It was unbelievable! Copious amounts of chunky fish ..a full meal in itself along with their homemade treacle bread.We enjoyed their meaty mussels and then fish n chips . We will be back today for lunch 😋

20/07/2025: Delicious, beautifully prepared, locally sourced food with French flair. Savoir Fare is exceptional and not to be missed, a real treat. Alain and his team are lovely hosts with a really deep knowledge of food that shines through in the scrumptious food served up.

12/07/2025: What a culinary delight! All the pasta dishes were available gluten-free, and everything we had tasted absolutely delicious. Even the espresso! We ate there again the very next day.

28/06/2025: Delicious and authentic Italian at Il Volcano! Proper spices and blends of flavors -- excellent service. A large family birthday party of 20 people sat 15 minutes before us and the restaurant was otherwise packed -- one would not have known. Clearly a very efficient kitchen. Fresh ingredients. Oh - and we were a walk in -- they apologized profusely and asked if we could wait for an hour, but called us after 15 minutes to let us know they had a table opening for us. Highly recommend.

21/07/2025: Food was old fashioned and underwhelming. If you enjoy your carvery food, I would recommend. Disappointed in the lack of wine knowledge. Staff was lovely otherwise.

16/07/2025: This was a really disappointing meal. We had very high hopes, but sadly they fell very short. The server did not explain the two menus to us, so we were left guessing, and when an opinion was asked, she was surprised by what was on the menu, as she wasn’t familiar with it. The starters were good. The mains were not. The scallops were full of grit and the steak (which was an up charge) was overcooked. The desserts were good, but didn’t make up for the rest of it. For the prices they charge, it’s not remotely good enough, and gritty scallops are never acceptable. Why this is Michelin recommended, I’m not sure.
