The best restaurants in Westmeath

20/09/2024: Average, style over substance. The tartlet needed more salt. The woodpigeon was disappointing. I had only ever had it pink not as part of an apricot and walnut ballotine. It was overcooked? dry and didn't taste nice. The beef fillet was perfectly cooked but there wasn't enough beef cheek. The liquorice and rhubarb was delicious but I did think it would have been better if the rhubarb had been cooked a little more and was more tender. Initially the service was rushed.

15/09/2024: Very expensive but worth it if you have the money. Woodpigeon as a starter was very rich in flavour and tastefully decorated. The rib eye beef was melt in the mouth and had a delicious gravy along with a big Yorkshire pudding. The chocolate souffle was also amazing, really warm and had caramel inside of it. Also they somehow made popcorn flavoured ice cream. Would recommend.

19/10/2024: I went with a group of friends to Fine on Friday evening because of their pizza. Unfortunately there is only a limited number of pizzas available and when we got there we were told to wait an hour as all the tables were taken but we were told they would have enough pizzas for us, but when we came back only half of the group could get pizzas because they were sold out, which is a shame. So we ate half a pizza each and that was it. Overall I would say the pizza was very good, well done to Roberto the pizza chef who is very skilled, the atmosphere at Fine is always nice as I've been there before. A couple of minor issues were the probable miscommunication with the kitchen and the lack of prices on the pizza menu, I personally think that €14 for a Margherita is a bit too much.

30/09/2024: 5 of us ate breakfast here recently, had a mix of the full Irish and the avocado on sourdough. the food was amazing. I had the full Irish, perfect tasty breakfast, Some of the lads had the avocado which looked and I heard tasted amazing with lots of bacon. Well done Brownes...the 5 of us were delighted. Great staff.

14/11/2024: Well i visit clarkes bar today and let me tell u that this bar is the most awesome bar I've seen in my life, it's too big. the staff are the best kind and familiar people in the world. for niall fans they had a lot of things and a place reserved just for us. THE GUINNESS BEER IS SO GOOD AND THE PRICES ALSO!!! I bring me home an incredible experience. this people have a place in my heart for the rest of my life, I definitely come back!!

13/11/2024: Brilliant absolutely loved the pub and Bryan was so lovely and welcoming such a lovely chap , the rest of the staff were lovely also, would get the train down again just to have a good few pints of Coors they were delish. My daughter loved the Niall Horan experience

17/10/2024: Went for the all day breakfast option, lovely food with great service! The Fried Egg, Chorizo potato hash was gorgeous and so was the creamy mushrooms on sourdough bread with poached egg. Highly Recommend

15/10/2024: We went here and I got the avocado on toast with feta cheese my 2 friends got full and mini breakfast. The service was amazing. After our breakfast we were asked would we like anything else and they told us about there cinnibons with pistachio on it. It was to die for. Would definitely return here.

07/11/2024: Our "go to" restaurant in Athlone. Some of us have specific dietary requirements, but the chef and the staff have always been able to accommodate our most cumbersome modification requests without an issue (when we learned that our boy is intolerant to dairy, the chef got plant-based cheese and composed a delicious, dairy-free pizza just for him!). This is also one of the very few places we've been to where, after dining, my coeliac wife has not felt unwell. This goes to show that the chefs really understand allergies, intolerances, cross contamination, etc. Their food in general is great (love their fried salmon!), their wine selection comprehensive and staff knowledgeable. It can take a bit of time for the food to get prepared, but this is a good thing, as you can be certain the kitchen is not rushing it, taking their time with each modified order, which is paramount for people with allergies. Simply allow 15 minutes extra compared to what you'd normally allow. Can't see coming anywhere else for the foreseeable future.

21/10/2024: Had a wonderful Saturday evening meal in Weirs... ordered off the specials menu - duck and seabass - both excellent! Service is great and overall had a lovely evening. Thank you team Weirs!

27/09/2024: Myself and my girlfriend eat here every Sunday we are available, the roast beef is fantastic, we have just returned home from 2.5 years travelling and have been talking about the roast beef since we left! Yesterday we went in and both got the roast beef and it was just as good as we remembered. Also a lovely cosy traditional Irish pub and a good pint of Guinness! Also the staff are excellent. You really feel like your being looked after. The kind of hospitality and warm feeling you can only get in Ireland, I would 100% recommend coming to the shack for dinner.
