The best restaurants in Westmeath

14/07/2025: Very nice Italian restaurant, food was very tasty and of excellent quality. Service was attentive and friendly.

13/07/2025: Not a great experience. The mushrooms were stuffed with cheese and cooked in batter (very odd) - which was dark brown (oil needs changing) and were sodden with oil - not nice. The pasta was ok it but appeared to have been in the microwave to heat it up which is not really acceptable. Other half had calamari which was good and steak which was properly cooked. Unfortunately had to chase after 20 minutes for a Guinness and the white wine was not chilled properly. Service was poor and the waitress was totally disinterested. We eat out a lot and our expectations were not high but unfortunately pasta Bella failed to meet them. Will we return? I don’t think so.

16/08/2025: I had a wonderful experience at this café. The breakfast was very tasty, but what really made the visit special was the staff. Everyone was very polite and welcoming. Even though my English is not perfect, one of the staff members explained the menu to me very clearly and patiently, which I truly appreciated. Her effort and kindness made me feel very comfortable. Great service and atmosphere – I would definitely come back!

09/08/2025: The atmosphere was fine. Quiet and busy at times. I got an omellette, which was tasty & filling. The other customers seemed to be eating full irish breakfast, which looked good too. My friend, however, had poached eggs, which came as it was in the picture on a slice of brown bread with toast on the side. Instead of the toast it would have been nicer had the poached eggs come with Avocado and tomatoes which most cafes provide but for this one she would have had to pay an extra €2 on top of the €9.50 she was paying for that which seemed abit steep. No menu, order at the counter.

04/07/2025: Came here looking for breakfast on a trip through Athlone. We managed to make it in the nick of time before they ended breakfast service and we weren’t sure if they would let us order. Jaime was SO kind and took our order, answering questions and giving us recommendations. Our food came out very quickly and coffee was included with our breakfasts. Wish we would’ve taken a photo of our food, but we ate too fast!! Jaime checked on us throughout the meal and was so lovely. 5/5 for friendly service and yummy food. I would highly recommend!!

09/06/2025: Food is nice have had few sandwiches and always happy. Staff don’t ever seem happy no real athmosphere. Busy at lunchtime hard to get a seat sometimes.

08/09/2025: What a beautiful hidden gem this place is 👌❤️ . From the beautiful location to the wonderful staff and delicious food 😋 😍 . I really cannot recommend this place highly enough . We where staying in coosan and it was just a short spin on the boat . Can wait for our next visit .

17/08/2025: Awful experience having to wait for over an hour and as told it could take longer and could not give a further waiting time. It was a birthday celebration and family were totally disappointed. Do not go unless you have hours and hours to spare with now sympathy.

24/05/2025: I called in my order and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived i was told I had to join a long queue. What is the point of calling in your order. No idea how to run a business. The food isn’t that good to wait 40 minutes! Rude staff. Would rather go to supermacs.

15/07/2025: We’ve come to this place more than once for a meal — the food has always been great. However, despite how delicious the food is, they never inform you in advance about extra charges for things like rice or even for simply sitting at a table. You expect one price, but in the end, you feel deceived. Yet, that’s not even the main issue. The staff member behaves absolutely rudely and unfairly. Every time I come with my partner, they seat us at a smaller table, even when larger tables are clearly available. Other couples are allowed to sit at larger tables, and today we saw even a single person sitting at one — but we were denied that option. Today was the last time we visited this restaurant — and we didn’t even stay to eat. When we politely asked to be moved to a larger table by the window, a group of four people walked in. Instead of pushing two small tables together for them — which would have been fair, since we arrived earlier and are paying a considerable amount for both the food and the extra charges they impose — we were rudely asked to move. So we just left, and we will not be coming back. This wasn’t the first time this has happened. It feels like the staff think we owe them something. If your space is too small, perhaps it’s time to consider expanding, not punishing your guests for your limitations. It was unfair, disrespectful, and outright rude. The staff are unfriendly and unwelcoming. I do not recommend this place — you’ll feel pressured and uncomfortable throughout your visit.

14/07/2025: No soap in bathroom, even though staff member had signed Bathroom Check Record 10 minutes earlier indicating all was in order!😡 Usually staff are very friendly and efficient in this cafe. However, Guy who served us this morning seemed disinterested and I had to explain our coffee order a few times and he still got it wrong! 😱

21/08/2025: A very nice atmosphere with soft lighting, typical Irish decor, Western-style doors, and carefully crafted dishes and presentation! Top notch! The food is delicious and very generous; we had a hard time finishing our dishes! The staff is welcoming, friendly, and full of humor! I recommend it if you're passing through!

27/07/2025: Below average experience. The food is ok. Portion size is absolutely terrible. Been here a few times but the last time was the final straw. Came here one day when it was busy, was just popping in with 3 friends to get a pint and be ok our way. There was a few people looking for seats so I approached the bar and asked the guy (mid 40’s?) about just sitting at the bar for a pint and he was absolutely foul mannered. He said “why don’t you join the queue like everyone else trying to get a table in here” I love locally and this bar/restaurant is quite close to me, many occasions I choose to go elsewhere for food and drinks. In this day and age that behaviour is unacceptable That episode, along with the overpriced menu and small food portion sizes and that barman’s behaviour ultimately made my decision on the palace. Couple weeks later “the shack” came up in conversation with different friends suggesting places to eat; I shut it down. Funnily enough one of the people in the group said that they ordered food weeks earlier and the same guy was intimidating to her because she didn’t eat her food and was pushing for answers, she was hungover and explained nothing was wrong with it. Won’t be returning, and I’ll be telling others the same story.

18/07/2025: Great atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks, and friendly personable service. Wife and I visited Athlone from the UK and were so glad we came here for lunch, highly recommend.

18/01/2025: Just ordered big order for the fussiest people ever well when I say there wasn't a chip left the food was absolutely amazing everything was 10 out of 10 thank you San Rena all 15 of use where extremely happy best kebabs n burgers we've had since moving to Kells.
