01/07/2026: Food was Good. Service was terrible, they will have to actually try training their staff. Simple things were done badly: bartending was bad, I was even handed a Guinness that had been drank from by someone else by the bartender; servers snapping at reasonable requests from nearby customers. It's actually bad management really because they should enaure staff are trained. The pricing is ridiculous for a hotel of it's quality. Plenty room to improve.

14/06/2026: CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS...Paid by cash on arrival, the following evening we noticed that the full amount had been taken from our bank account +€100 security deposit. I phoned them that evening, after being placed on hold for about 20 minutes they agreed they had taken the money. I advised I would collect the cash on check out the next morning as we were off to another hotel for the rest of the week. When we arrived at the reception the next morning I was informed that they had processed a bank refund and would not give us back our cash. When I asked to speak to the manager I was left sitting a further 20 min for the receptionist to tell me the manager would not come to reception. Mistakes can be made by us all, but when a premises such as this makes one, you would imagine that the staff would be trained on how to rectify them and liaise with the guests. To say the manager would not come out just shows there is 0 customer service to be expected here on any level. They clearly were not going to inform us they took the money, only we noticed it and brought to their attention. Food extremely basic, greasy poor quality. Lots of slates missing from roof, leak in beedroom ceiling. Pool cold.

03/06/2026: The room was clean and the self-check in super easy. It’s got a private parking area and is located a short walk from the castle and river. We had a great stay here.

09/08/2026: Pulled in here passing through Moate. Really enjoyable meal here today and I’d definitely be happy to come back again. I had the BBQ wings to start, which I’d give 4/5. The flavour was very good and the sauce was tasty, but the wings themselves weren’t quite as meaty as I would have liked. I think an extra one or two wings in the portion would probably have made up for that. Still a very enjoyable starter and they were cooked well. For the main course I went for the cod and chips and it was easily a 5/5. The portion was absolutely massive - definitely come hungry! The piece of cod was huge with a lovely crisp batter, plenty of chips and it came with peas, salad, tartar sauce and lemon. It was one of those plates that arrives at the table and immediately gets your attention because of the size of it. Very good value considering how substantial the portion was and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My dinner guest had the philli steak sandwich and was very impressed with that as well. He said it was very enjoyable and would happily order it again. Overall, a very good meal with generous portions and plenty of choice. The cod and chips was definitely the highlight for me and I’d order it again without hesitation. Well worth a visit - 5 stars overall. 13/09/2026: We visited the River View Bistro restaurant for lunch today—a very lovely, cozy spot in Athlone. They served delicious food at very reasonable prices, and the waitstaff were polite and friendly. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful location, opposite the old castle and right next to one of the oldest pubs. We will definitely be back for dinner soon!

11/09/2026: River View Bistro is a centrally located Italian restaurant just steps from the river and the castle. The atmosphere is pleasant and conversant. The service was quick and attentive. We ordered focaccia, seafood bisque, and stew, all of which were delicious. The bread and butter was delightful. It's a shame it's not closer to home 🥲.

05/09/2026: Ordered a cookies and ice cream from the lady at the till. She then walks to go make it, picks up the cookies with her hands after just touching the money and previous customers money, to then handle the cookies without washing hands or putting on gloves. No food hygiene in this place at all.

05/09/2026: Very unsanitary. Ordered a cookies and ice cream. The woman at the till after handling money and god knows what else she proceeded to grab the cookies with her hands, no gloves and didn’t wash her hands either. So disgusting. Won’t be back.

06/09/2026: Passing through atlone and tried this, was pleasantly surprised. A mix of Chinese and Thai and they done both well nice Thai mains and good quality Chinese curry sauce.

01/09/2026: The worst ramen I had. No taste, terrible brot and not fresh. Fried chicken was bland,not crispy like leftovers and I ended up getting diarrhea and shiting in my pants while shopping on homesavers. I do not recommend this place.

23/09/2026: I’ve always found lotus was the best Chinese in mullingar over the years, but lately food just isn’t as good. It’s average at best. I recently had a meal in the restaurant, chicken sauzhwan was nothing like how it used to be. Different sauce and bland. Maybe a different chef? Pricey enough for an average meal.

06/08/2026: I walked in this restaurant at 22.30, tired from working all day long and travelling from Sligo to Dundalk. The service was fast, the food arrived fast and the taste was excellent. I love Chinese and i had it in may different places in Ireland. I got the house special black bean sauce plate!

02/10/2026: Got normal beef burger from here tonight. Amazingly tastey :) Staff are delightful and very kind and welcoming. Been here once before and it was just as good. Its nice to have food like this close to home. 10/10
