The best restaurants in Athlone

24/07/2026: I went here yesterday with my partner for the Tomahawk Steak Experience, and I genuinely can't recommend it enough! The food was incredible, everything was cooked perfectly, and it was a fantastic portion for two people. We ordered the bone marrow mash and house fries, and also received a complimentary salad. For sauces, we went with chimichurri, garlic butter, and charcoal butter on the recommendation of our server and she was 100% right!! For dessert we went for the salted caramel mousse and the chocotorta, and both were absolutely delicious. They were the perfect sweet finish after such a savoury feast. The restaurant itself was so cosy and welcoming. Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to make recommendations, which really enhanced the experience since it was our first visit. We paid around €80 for the steak experience, plus a bit extra for drinks and desserts, which felt incredibly reasonable considering both the quality and the generous portions. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. I wouldn't hesitate to come back, and I'll definitely be recommending it to friends and family. Thank you! 🥰

04/08/2026: Stumbled across this place whilst on the shannon boat rally. Loved that the menu was so simple and minimal. Got focaccia to take away on 2 occasions. It was devoured by all the family. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere. Will be heading back as soon as possible and staying for lunch next time to try out the pasta dishes and have a glass of wine! Thank you for the memorable food.

19/07/2026: Lovely bar,lot of tourists not even drinking,service very good,music so good atmosphere hard to get a seat !! Didn't like the Guinness but that could be just me.Anyway stayed until closing drinking cider so they doing something right !!!

01/08/2026: Couldn't have picked a better breakfast stop on the way to Galway! We both had the smashed avocado toast with poached eggs and sausage, washed down with lattes (one regular, one oat—because balance 😂). Everything was fresh, delicious, and disappeared suspiciously quickly. The staff were cheerful, friendly, and made us feel really welcome from the moment we walked in. If you're passing through Athlone and need breakfast that'll make you seriously consider ordering a second round, Bastion Kitchen is well worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

04/08/2026: We were lucky to get a table without a booking the bank holiday Sunday. Absolutely delicious food with generous portions. Great value for money. Our server Sachin was very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Even our 6 month old daughter was amazed by all the decor and colours 😍 we will 100% be back when we visit Athlone again.

06/07/2026: Met at the door by a rude lady with a top knot held in with a claw clip. We waited for a seat and she met us with a rude tone and face then said follow me and went up these steps. We had a buggy with our baby in it so I was unsure if we were meant to follow her or not. At this stage I’m upset and kind of want to leave but we drove all the way in to come so we stayed. All of the other servers are lovely and friendly they made sure everything was ok. Food was nice. I like that they have a juice and water station you can just help yourself. Just upsetting with that one lady who just ruined the rest of our time there to be honest, felt unwelcome with my baby.

06/07/2026: Might not look much from outside but it's a really atmospheric place with friendly service and a great pint of Guinness. I hear the food is good too.

13/08/2026: I ate at La Provence restaurant during a three day stay at the hotel. I have lots of dietary requirements and all were catered for well at both lunch and dinner times. My waiter, Thomas, was especially helpful. Each day he paid special attention to my restrictions and always met our table with a kindness and cheerfulness. It makes all the difference to customers having attentive, accommodating and friendly staff like Thomas.

08/08/2026: Excellent location, very friendly staff. Special mention to Carolin at breakfast who facilitated our elderly parents and even remembered our drinks order fron the previous morning.

23/07/2026: We had a great meal here. The service is very friendly and nice. Good place to go with children.

15/08/2026: Dined here on a Friday night at 6:30 and the place was packed with people which generally suggests good food however I was misled, we were firstly seated in a room with two big groups and we were the only table of two in a very noisy environment but still gave the food the benefit of the doubt we ordered garlic mushrooms and fired Brie to start not the most Italian authentic starters for choice but we were presented with shop frozen starters with cheap sauce , then onto the mains seafood risotto and bolognaise and to say they were most flavourless mains I have ever come across and not even served in a decent tomato sauce. Service was decent.

12/08/2026: As always an absolutely fantastic meal with excellent warm service! One of the specials was lobster at a brilliant price had to indulge and did not regret! There is something for everyone on their menu and they can do gluten free meals just ask the helpful knowledgeable wait staff and they will explain your options (lots!!). I would highly recommend this lovely place

31/07/2026: Very greasy food, chips oily and the salad more sauce than lettuce. Would 100% avoid the food. Service fab though

22/07/2026: This place is perfect for breakfast or lunch. The food is fantastic. I asked for a delicious BLT and it came with salad and crisp also asked for dasher (panini with turkey bacon cranberry mayo and Brie cheese) and was amazing taste. And finally the carrot cake one of the best dessert in all town. The prices and the service was great. I also Highly recommend this place to crab a coffee with a good dessert.

18/04/2026: The facilities were old, but the beds were comfortable. Also, the receptionist's attitude towards other white people was noticeably different from their attitude towards Asians. It felt like the place was small and there weren't many foreigners there.

16/04/2026: We recently had our son’s Christening in the restaurant in the Sheraton and we were absolutely blown away by the amazing service from the reservation team and the restaurant staff. The reservation team Rachel and Daniel were so quick to respond in emails and had everything organised for us- nothing was an issue! They were so efficient and arranged a lovely menu for our group which was so reasonable. The food we were served was absolutely delicious, everyone was so impressed! Joe, the restaurant manager was amazing- had a designated area for our large group and the table was decorated beautifully for our celebration. Kelly and Daniel were just fabulous servers and so attentive and really lovely to all the children too. It made our day even more special to have been looked after so well by these lovely people, we are so grateful to have had such a wonderful day. We can’t thank them enough and will definitely be back and book any future parties with them.
