The best restaurants in Athlone

26/07/2025: By far the best Steaks we have eaten in Ireland, by fact in a long time (also in Austria)! Muchisimas gracias de todo corazon! We will be back, some day for sure

26/07/2025: This honestly has to be one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Ever! It has also got to be one of the best steak houses in the entire country, and that is an understatement, because the quality and depth of flavour of the food is truly outstanding. My own litmus test for this is whether I feel like I could make similar or better food at home, and not in a million years could I make anything as tasty as what we enjoyed last night. My girlfriend and I shared empanadas and two rib eye wagu steaks with some marrow mash and garlic butter, then an assortment of ice cream to finish. From start to finish, the experience was flawless — from the warm welcome at the door to the last spoonful of dessert. The service was attentive, professional and never overbearing. We found the setting very beautiful, despite being a quiet Friday night we both felt like we wanted to stay all night. Every element on the plate was considered and executed with precision — the steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, PER-FEC-TION!!! (No seriously, I never knew steak could be this tasty). The marrow mash was indulgent without being heavy, and the garlic butter added just the right amount of punch. The desert was simple, no fuss and the ice cream was beautifully light and fluffy. Our empanadas were also delicious, with wagyu and wrapped in a tasty pastry and a home made salsa, they were perfect. It’s rare these days to be genuinely surprised by how good a place is — but this wasn’t just good, it was memorable, and we will definitely be back! We’re already planning our return visit, and if you’re even remotely a fan of steak, you owe it to yourself to go.

03/08/2025: Esperienza eccellente e sublime. Locale piccolo, ma ben curato nell'arredamento e nel servizio. In cucina ben 5 chef che preparano piatti squisiti. Il menù proone solo 2 menu ma le opzioni tra cui scegliere sono varie. Se avessi potuto, ci sarei tornata almeno un'altra volta!!!

01/08/2025: Excellente cuisine. Fine et inventive. Très bon rapport qualité prix. Menu à 45 euros (entrée, plat, dessert) d'une égale qualité.

16/07/2025: Best pint in the city they say. Well it is true! The atmosphere of true small irish pub which just cannot be beaten!

15/07/2025: The food is amazing - full of flavour and decent portion sizes. The staff are incredibly polite and even on their busiest days, the wait time is minimal. We booked a table in advance. Starter: Deep fried Brie with sweet chilli sauce & Goats cheese on a toasted ciabatta Main: Tikka fettuccine & Pasta primavera Dessert: Banoffee pie & Hot chocolate pudding & mint ice cream

07/07/2025: Food is excellent and the staff are brilliant. The only complaint I've ever had about Il Colosseo is how slow it takes to be served your food. This is ok for a date or romantic meal, but not so good when going for a family meal with kids

01/08/2025: We found this place by chance. It was a quiet, very pleasant place. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. Locals eat there. The food is homemade and delicious. The simplicity is wonderful. I recommend trying the soup of the day! Good value. However, there's a slight fishy smell on your clothes, nothing unforgivable, a result of cooking in such a small place. If you're passing through Athlone, eat there!

04/07/2025: We had a wonderful meal here. Great service. A lot of homemade dishes, spoke English. Goat cheese and beets salad was delicious, as was the soup of the day.

06/07/2025: Went here last Friday evening with 2 friends for the Friday evening aperetivo. Had a selection of italian foods that you wouldn't normally experience in an Italian restaurant along with a selection of bruschetta. A lovely glass of nero d'avola. Very generous selection of food , great flavour and great value. We will be back!

02/07/2025: The pizza is just chef's kiss. I'm vegan and delighted to see 2 vegan options for the menu (marinara and vegan). It's a weekly appointment I can't miss out. The coffee is authentic Italian espresso. And the staff couldn't be lovelier! The very best to Chiara, Roberto and their family!

20/07/2025: Little bit slow service and I found a hair in my coffee, but the pastries are amazing and thus 5 stars ⭐️
