13/01/2026: When we entered we were greeted by Timothy who asked how he could help. Upon being told we were interested in some food and drink, he promptly encouraged us to seek refreshment up the road at another establishment that we found on arrival was closed that day. There was plenty of space to seat us but clearly only locals are welcome.

30/12/2025: Really, this is one of the best Italian restaurants for miles. The food is incredible. The service is too class, no matter how busy they get, the service doesn't do of.... top marks all around, the staff are always friendly and humorous at times....

13/12/2025: We arrived (6persons) completely unprepared and without a booking. The floor manager greeted us so warmly and was able to accommodate us, despite being in under pressure in a full house of Christmas groups. Couldn't believe our luck, as it was our brothers birthday. Food was perfect and came out so fast. Great price and no fuss what so ever. They even surprised my brother with ice cream, a candle and sang him happy birthday, completely unexpected and so appreciated. Absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a wholesome and relaxed meal with lovely service. Will be going out of my way to go backsoon.... (I'll be sure to book ahead from now on)

30/12/2025: I visited this place on 29th December at around 3:15 pm intending to order the day’s special sandwich, but my experience was very disappointing. Instead of preparing it fresh, I saw the staff member take the sandwich straight from the refrigerator. I don’t understand how a “day’s special” can be sold from a fridge rather than being freshly made. On top of that, the girl behind the counter was using the same gloves to touch her phone, handle other items, and then serve food without changing them. This is extremely unhygienic and unacceptable in a food service environment. Due to the poor hygiene practices maintained by the food handler, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this place to others. After seeing this I couldn’t even eat the wraps that I order and had to dump. Unfortunately 17 euros that I spent there went straight to trash

06/01/2026: We went for dinner over Christmas to Bacchus as we were staying in a hotel near by. Everything about the experience was top class. The table with the river views, the décor and the lovely warm welcome we got from the staff. We also had the early bird menu though it was just after 19.00.The food was beautiful, different and very tasty and great value for money with a three course early bird menu for €34.50. Also a bottle of new Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for under €30 is great value. We cannot wait to go back! This restaurant deserves all the business it gets and more. Highly recommend, you wont be disappointed

29/09/2025: Great morning spot. French Toast with fresh fruit, bacon, snd maple syrup was yummy. Hubby had omelette and potatoes. The vanilla latte and mochas were also tasty and even seconds to go:)

26/11/2025: We had a wonderful evening at Fatted Calf. The ambiance was beautiful, and lovely background music played softly. The welcome was warm and inviting. The service was attentive, humorous, and never intrusive! The food was divine! The combination of the appetizer with the black pudding croquettes, the scallops, and the various sauces was an explosion of flavor! Thank you! For the main course, the meat was tender and juicy with a delicious chimichurri sauce. Wonderful! The desserts were simply amazing! Our restaurant visit was the highlight of our time here in Athlone!

21/12/2025: Poor customer service, quality of food is bad.. No proper wash area.

20/12/2025: I had a disappointing experience with customer service at Spice India Athlone while placing a takeaway order. Once the customer in front of me was served, my presence at the counter was completely ignored. When I was about to place my order, the lady at the takeaway counter abruptly said “one minute” and immediately started taking a phone order, without any eye contact, acknowledgement, or polite request to wait. I would like to clearly state that I was not expecting her to attend to me before the phone order. I was absolutely ready to wait. However, there is a proper and respectful way staff should communicate this to a customer who is standing in the queue. A simple gesture, smile, or polite request would have been enough. The restaurant was not busy at the time (around 6 pm), so there was no justification for this dismissive behaviour. Instead, I was made to feel ignored and unwelcome. Only when another staff member stepped in was my order finally taken. I would like to specifically mention that the male staff member who assisted me was friendly, polite, and professional. His behaviour clearly showed that good customer service is possible at this establishment. While the food itself was acceptable, the customer service experience was not.

11/08/2025: Went here on the recommendation of a friend, I ordered Chicken supreme with champ, my wife got chicken curry, I got the smallest chicken breast I have ever seen and the bed of champ wasn't that large either and was just Luke warm. I said to the water, but nothing was done about it. My wife asked for Garlic bread instead of the pitta bread,And when we got the bill we were charged €2 extra. We will not be returning 😒
