10/05/2025: We booked the west for communion celebration dinner and very happy we did. Everything from the set menu, service and value were second to none. We were a large group of 23 adults and 8 kids. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Food was served seamlessly by great staff. The function room upstairs is a great space. We were allowed to decorate the evening before and nothing was too much trouble for Martin and his staff. The West surpassed itself today. If you have any celebration coming up I highly recommend the west you will not be disappointed

29/05/2025: A fabulous range of dishes to choose from championing local produce. Scallops and Ham Hock Tart starters were beautifully presented and excellent. Duck and Featherblade of Beef both outstanding. Vegetables served with the main courses also excellent and cooked perfectly. Sadly, due to the generous portions we couldn't manage dessert. Next time we'll make room. All this, was accompanied by great service. By far the best place we ate in while in Mayo.

20/05/2025: We went around 3.30 pm after us ringing to find out times .We got our food that looked ok to start with .I had a burger which I have to say it was so hard I could not put a knife through it .I told the staff which said the could not take it off the bill but would take off the child's dinner .she was not very friendly .
I have been there before and had lovely food so was disappointed. I went in to hotel and told them which they said would ring me back but I'm still waiting.Its such a shame.
17/04/2025: I was so lucky to receive a tour of the castle hotel! Carol was incredibly knowledgeable and we talked informally for an hour about Irish history as it related to the Knox-Gore Family and their residence over time including during the Great Famine and after their departure (i.e., the tuberculosis sanatorium, military barracks, and ultimately hotel, venue, and museum). After our insightful conversation, she took me on a tour of Marshall Doran’s exceptionally eclectic collections including geology, Irish history, and weaponry. I loved being able to feel the weight of the weapons from the medieval period and seeing an executioner’s sword limited to use for beheading gentlemen was quite the education!

09/06/2025: A nice choice of different food brought to you by a (she) music playing robot. Food is very good: tasty and plentyfull. Served quit quickly. Chowder was super as was the chicken ceasar salade.

28/05/2025: This is a wonderful place. Hugh and all the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The food is absolutely delicious, and the Guinness is great too.
I have eaten here on numerous occasions, and it’s always first class. The scones and homemade bread are incredible.
Make sure you book to avoid disappointment!
24/05/2025: I've known the pub for decades. I was there with my son two years ago.
We'll be back again this year on 12 June.

09/06/2025: On a very wet and miserable Monday night in June, this place was recommended to us by our guesthouse. It is a gorgeous, cosy and welcoming pub and restaurant. The staff were accommodating and friendly and the food was delicious. Portions are very generous.
08/06/2025: Hidden gem, a bit of a search but then you're in a fantastic restaurant!
We had a very tasty meal! They have a super nice small menu. Nachos shared, salad with chicken and a steak sandwich. Dessert for my husband and I an espresso
We'll drive 45 kilometers tomorrow to eat there again. Hope they're open😅

The Helm

11/05/2025: Booked a 2 night stay at The Helm Apartments on booking.com. It was a great stay, well equipped apartment, less than 5 min drive to downtown Westport or 15-20 min walk. Upon arrival for check-in the staff helped us to our apartment, was very friendly and ensured we had everything before leaving (baby cot). The free breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Parking is just across the street and was only a couple euros for 24 hours.
We also had dinner at TheHelm one night, big portions and good food, you must make reservations at it’s a very very busy pub.
We will be back and will recommend TheHelm to others when visiting Westport.

23/05/2025: Super liebe Dame, die mit viel Herzblut ihr kleines Café betreibt. Die Kleinigkeiten werden auf Wunsch sogar leicht erwärmt und sie kocht frischen Filterkaffee. Es liegt ihr sehr am Herzen, dass vegetarische und Fleischgebäcke getrennt liegen. Außerdem erklärt sie alles super. Sie ist so lieb und herzlich! Die Marmelade ist auch absolut zu empfehlen!

05/06/2025: Stayed here for one night on 3rd June 2025, managed to bag the 10 bed dorm all to myself 🙌 staff were all really friendly and helpful, room was super clean and spacious and the cost included breakfast. Had a cheeky pint of Achill Island lager at the very cosy bar on site as well. Highly recommend this place.
15/04/2025: The proprietor, Pat, is amazing. He goes out of his way to make sure we are all comfortable and happy. Highly recommend if you are traveling alone or with family.

18/06/2025: A great gem of a restaurant tucked down a back alley. We had a really wonderful meal — I had the lobster salad and then the seared scallops and my husband had the duck; all were delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was friendly and efficient (but we never felt rushed). Would also recommend the caramelized lemon tart!
