The best restaurants in Mayo

18/02/2025: Coffee was nice, however the vibe wasn't great. Ordered coffee and food with my daughter, both of which I couldn't fault, very tasty. What put us off was a middle aged man who appeared to be an owner/manager perhaps, who stormed around with a watchful eye over everyone as if we were in a prison dining hall. Lots of tables were free and a man beside us was at a small table with two seats, his rucksack left on one free seat, and this older man grunts "are you using this?" And proceeded to remove his bag, put it on the floor and take away the chair. Fair enough if chairs were needed, but there were many spaces free. He kept passing by and watching each table. It just ruined it for me. Maybe consider keeping him in back office.

23/02/2025: Not the best I've been in. Food ok but slow service. 10 or 12 young lads running around as if a playground and no one to take charge. It was a Saturday evening.

19/02/2025: I'm sorry to say but the place was very dirty, the tables and floors, we went elsewhere to eat, by the way I love Supermac's usually, this was a one off I hope

17/03/2025: Great little bar. We visited on a coolish Thursday night at the end of a couple of days on the Island. A cozy peat fire and friendly locals provided the warmest of welcomes, enjoyed over a couple of very creamy pints of the black stuff. Now living in England, peat is hard to find. After asking, the landlady helped me out with a wee bit to take back with me. Couldn't fault it. A perfect end to a wonderful visit to the Island.

30/12/2024: Honestly, a very pleasant surprise. Simple but excellent cuisine and really inexpensive. Excellent soup and very good chicken. Very nice view.

31/08/2024: Delighted to recommend this hidden gem! Had fish and chips, delicious and prawns with garlic bread, chips and salad, very tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful, bathrooms were spotless.

06/03/2025: The longest I've ever waited for a burrito, all customers asked to wait ten minutes for their food to cook, so I really wouldn't call it fast food! The burrito tasted good but was filled with a lot of rice to bulk it out, and I'm still waiting for any sort of spice to kick in after eating it! I Wouldn't recommend

12/10/2024: A gem of a cafe … friendly and professional staff. When I saw them down on their knees cleaning the table stands, I felt safe in the knowledge my rhubarb & strawberry tart was going to be good. (Oops! I had eaten half of it before taking the photo!) And It Was!! It was my first time in Knock for over 30 years, this cafe, and many of the other improvements are wonderful! Well Done Everyone at Le Cheile!!

08/09/2024: The café is right next to the museum with a view of the basilica. We were there at lunchtime and were served very friendly.

25/02/2025: I just do not get this place. We ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips. We waited an eternity, as they were busy. They put both orders in brown bags. When we came to eat them, the chips were mush. You could not eat them. If you tried to use a fork, they broke in half. They had not been fried in hot enough fat nor blanched to make them crispy. Putting them in bags makes them steam. The fish was total mush. The batter had disintegrated into the chips, and it just made the chips even more sodden. It was the worst piece of fish we have ever eaten. The bit I don't get, why is it busy? We will never come back.
