A bartender who treats you condescendingly from the start and even forbids you from participating in an internal discussion because it doesn't reflect his own. 10/11/2025: A horrible end to what had been a nice weekend. We visited here on a Sunday lunchtime after a weekend in the caravan park. We had drinks the night before, but decided to grab a quick pizza before heading home. They were preparing for a private event, so we asked if we could be accommodated, sitting outside and were told absolutely. We waited 15 mins before I went on the hunt for menus, and after another 15 minutes with no service, I went inside, where a sulky waitress, whom I was clearly inconveniencing, proceeded to reluctantly take my order. When ordered, I discovered the kids' meal didn't have the dessert, so she said she would " sort it out once we had eaten". My daughter's hot dog arrived along with our side of fries that we had ordered with our pizza. No cutlery or our drinks. There was a tsp of garlic mayo with the fries, which my daughter liked, so considering the portion was so tiny, I asked for a little more. This did arrive promptly, along with the card machine, for a €1.50 charge. Asked again for cutlery. The pizza eventually arrived, long after the fries were gone, and I asked again for my husband's drinks. When the pizza was gone, I went back in and asked for a refund for the non-arrival drinks, but after no sign of either a waitress or a refund, we left. We paid €37, including one Coke, which was not received. Additionally, we paid € 1.50 for an extra teaspoon of garlic mayo. The caravan park was fine, nothing special, but I couldn't fault it apart from having to wait 20 minutes for someone to come back to check in. I spent the whole meal in and out chasing menus, ordering drinks, and cutlery. etc - whole thing took over an hour despite no one else eating at the time - If they had just said that they were completely preoccupied with the later event, we could have gone somewhere that actually wanted us there. What the website doesn't make clear is that once you roll past Sept 1st, it's off-season and lots of things are closed , fewer choices of eating, etc.

22/02/2026: ….an update review.Stayed here again a yr or so later.Cannot fault it at all.Joanne(I think.Gave us an upgrade to the Lennon suite) on the front desk is amazing.6 star service from her,Id actually feel guilty if i didn't return just because how professional she is .The hotel is just one of those places that you feel comfortable in but appreciated as well…… The walk behind the hotel on the western way is fab. Stayed for 2 nights recently. Really enjoyed the stay. Room was fine and clean.Big modern bathroom. Breakfast was good and the the attention from staff was great.From the service in the bar to the lady who ran out of reception to open the door that leads to the lift. You can see they are making an effort to keep guests happy. It’s only a 20 min drive to Achill and we spent 2 days out there. We didn’t eat in the hotel but did try the local pub which was good. The pub charged €10 for a pint of Guinness and a vodka and 7 up👏👏👏👏 The Dublin barman was chatty. But back to the hotel.We will definitely return. They have deals mid week so its worth ringing them direct

06/02/2026: I would go as far as to say their pizzas are the best we’ve ever eaten and that includes pizzas in Italy. Lovely thin crust base and unlike other pizzas you don’t feel bloated after . 11/12 euro for a large pizza is unreal

The atmosphere is warm, authentic, and full of genuine Mayo character, the kind of place where locals chat easily with visitors and the craic flows naturally. The Guinness is exceptional, easily among the best you’ll find anywhere, poured with real care and consistency. Add in the friendly service, the family-run feel, and the traditional music nights, and you’ve got a pub that captures the true spirit of the west of Ireland. If you’re visiting Castlebar and want a proper pint in a proper pub, this is an absolute must stop!

02/03/2026: Great staff. Had gorgeous room with bath under a skylight. Perfect place to stay when attending any event at the Arts Centre just down the street.

09/02/2026: I rang today to book accommodation for two work colleagues. Rather than speaking directly with the hotel, I was routed to a call centre where the agent struggled to pronounce the town and county names. When I explained that the price (€225 per person per room for B&B) was higher than I was looking to pay and tried to politely say goodbye, the response became quite pushy, with repeated sales tactics and even a claim that no other rooms were available in Ballina within a 15-mile radius. This was clearly inaccurate — there were plenty of rooms available, and I booked my colleagues into the Twin Trees Hotel for €99 per person per room for B&B, where a friendly local staff member handled everything quickly and professionally. If this is the experience offered to potential customers, it’s disappointing. High-pressure “last room available” tactics are ineffective and off-putting. We were not stuck for accommodation, and even if those truly had been the final rooms in Ballina, we would have chosen to stay in another town. This experience fell well below expectations.

26/04/2025: Absolute cat, fish is pre cooked then recooked and tastes like leather, chips are bad also.

29/07/2025: We had such a lovely evening here with old friends. The food was spectacular. My friends all had seafood which was incredibly fresh and delicious, while I opted for what was the best pizza I have ever had outside of Italy! Could not recommend highly enough.

25/07/2025: Great service by Eve & Excellent food by Orla - Seafood medley was delicious, mussels starter plentiful & pizza fully loaded - wine menu good & our 8 year old Granddaughter had a visit with the cats on the Patio - hope to get back soon again - Thanks so much 🙏🏻💚❤️

01/03/2026: Would avoid at all costs food poisoning which lasted days, was serviced gone off salad and chicken which ended up me being very very ill , place is very unhygienic certainly would advise people to stay away

01/03/2026: Great cafe with nice food at reasonable prices. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating too, although it does get very busy around lunch time. Sandwiches and carvery are tasty, good quality, with generous portions. Lovely coffee and desserts too. It's the only cafe in Westport that I like. I find the others too pokey with not enough food options. A couple of things they could improve: replace the booth seating with wooden seating (maybe with a built in cushion) because people keep breaking the springs in the existing seating. Also I think it would be advisable to cover the desserts a bit better because customers stand too close to them when queuing. Otherwise all good.
