02/09/2025: A real gem in the hills of Cork. The only reason this isn't 5 star is the mad price for the tapas and the boards! That being said, we opted instead for the special which was the best smash burger I've ever had, and a side of incredible potato's. The price for the special was very reasonable and the food was exceptional! Everything else was amazing. The food was so so good and the vibes of the restaurant were great! The staff were friendly and attentive and I would highly recommend the place.

13/08/2025: I was in Athboy today and was passing so stopped off for a coffee. I sat in the outside area. Which was beautiful. I had a look at there menu and said o I'll have to try the goats cheese salad. Which I have to say was beautiful lovely flavours. Only thing it could have is a bit more of goats cheese as it was so good. My little girl had chicken goujons and chips and were really nice and fresh. Menu is very good as it's hard to find a cafe in the area that does nice food and great selection to. I'll definitely be back with the rest of the family for food. Staff are very friendly and helpful to. Very clean also.

10/08/2025: We've been coming here pretty regularly over the past 4 years, food has always been consistently good. However, we won't be coming back due to the managers attitude toward her customers. She comes across as stern, rude and can make you feel quite unwelcome.

10/09/2025: Good community restaurant. You may find there locals and visitors, those who dress up to eat there and those who come with jeans and t-shirt. Everyone is welcome. The food was tasty. The friend I went with ordered fish and chips and liked it. As I don't eat fish, I wanted the steak but there was only a big chunk, so I decided to order the schnitzel. It tasted good but done with a lot of oil. Before eating the it, I put a napkin on it to absorb some of the oil. Bottom line: good place to eat. Make sure to have reservations, otherwise you may not get in.

28/08/2025: 1st time to visit, won't be the last Went for a late lunch. Our visit started with a great welcome at the door they had seats available, so no wait. Our waitress was so nice and friendly. Food came relatively quickly and was as described on the menu, plus it was really, really good quality and tasted great. 4th time to visit now, no change on the above. Such a great spot. Great venue will be back.

02/08/2025: La comida era muy agradable, el vino era encantador y crujiente. La comida sabía fresca y muy bien presentada. Pan de focaccia encantador, casero y fresco. Mi único problema es la hospitalidad. Delante de la casa joven mujer es muy grosero. Por suerte no tuvimos que lidiar demasiado con ella ya que estábamos sentados detrás del restaurante. El hombre mayor que nos atiende no tuvo la mejor recepción, ya que estamos incomodándolo. Sin embargo, algunos miembros del personal eran muy amables, una chica pelirroja joven increíble servicio. Algunos miembros del personal son incómodos de estar cerca, en particular la parte delantera de la casa femenina que marcó el tono desde el primer minuto de nuestra experiencia aquí.

20/07/2025: I had the worst seafood pasta ever! Prawns was hard and tasted like paper disguasting and old, calmars very chewy, mussels was good and this all for over 23e. We have a very good memories from this place, that why it was very disappointing after what we get today. We have to wait for a menu because the waiters watch the match in tv. Long time waiting for a food. You can get better pizza in supermacs. Chefs is not Italian for sure. Or he just don't care. Never again. Overrating!!! Highly recommend the cocktails ,the only good thing in this place.

12/08/2025: We only went for a day out. It was lovely. The grounds of the castle are lovely and the walk up the mountain is very enjoyable.

10/08/2025: My stay at Castle Hotel was far below expectations. I paid for a higher-category room, yet I was placed in an inferior one, in poor condition – with a broken light fixture and facilities that did not match the price paid. I have photographs and videos to prove this. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff were unwelcoming. I was kept waiting for more than two hours before being allowed to check in, and throughout my stay, every request I made was declined without reasonable explanation. I cannot understand why, as my payment holds the same value as any other guest’s. Unfortunately, I felt I was being treated differently. At check-out, I requested that the receptionist call a taxi, as the hotel is located in a rural area where my phone had no signal. She claimed there were no taxis available and stated that no one at the hotel could assist me. Moments later, I saw other guests request taxis and be assisted immediately, right in front of me. I had to go outside the hotel to get signal, and upon my very first call, a taxi arrived within ten minutes. What disappointed me most was the attitude of the staff. They behaved as if they were above their position, lacking the humility and professionalism that hospitality work demands. Their role is to serve guests with courtesy, not to let personal biases dictate their conduct. This was not only unprofessional, but deeply unbecoming of an establishment of this level. As a foreign visitor, it was deeply unsettling to experience such treatment. I was disrespected, poorly attended to, and witnessed behaviour I can only describe as xenophobic – something entirely incompatible with the image this hotel purports to uphold. The hotel itself has good facilities, but the customer service, particularly at reception, was the worst I have ever encountered. I do not recommend it for foreign guests.

04/09/2025: Very pleasant and relaxing place for breakfast or brunch. We had buckwheat crepes with savory toppings and Nutella for kids. Good coffee also. We ate outside, dogs welcome.

07/09/2025: Had the hot seafood platter (85 euros!) - both the crab and prawns were inedible, so overcooked, dry & tough. Mussels were ok - heavy herbs though. Such a disappointment - and an expensive one!

01/09/2025: I never thought I would be leaving this kind of review for The Oar House in Howth. It’s usually our go to restaurant and don’t mind driving from Louth to enjoy its amazing food. My table was booked for 7pm on 30th August 2025 but I made the booking on 11th August 2025 for six people giving plenty of notice. We arrived at 6.45 a tad early and spoke to a staff member, gave name and booking time. She saw the booking and glanced at the large table which was still occupied, by guess how many people, same as my booking, six. I could see she went into panic mode wondering where to seat us. If she needed us to go and pop back at 7pm all she had to do was ask. We would have walked the pier and returned, but no, she hastily pulled two small tables that seat only two each together to form a small group table usually for 4 people. But she put a chair and both ends making six cramped places. I did say “No you cannot expect us to squeeze around two tables that fit only 4 people”. A bit of a dispute did follow with her stating I always place six people around that setup. We reluctantly sat at the table as we were celebrating my wife’s birthday. She could see that I was still not happy with the situation and continued to argue. I obliged saying if this is the new standard for The Oar House then I’m leaving a negative review. This sent her into an onslaught of intimidating abuse “ I’m the manager” “This is my table and I always set it like this” and the best was “ I don’t want a negative review so if your going to leave me one then I’m refusing to serve you and you can leave”. Wow, a real immature rant which also included “ do you know what’s going on in the world and my life”. Now I do have to mention that part of our group were my granddaughters aged 10 and 12. She did not care that they heard her rant. She stormed off and another waitress served the table. This lady very professional and saved the night. So, has The Oar House decided to discard its usual magical atmosphere, setting and food to just cram people in like sardines if you excuse the pun being on the pier. I would usually recommend The Oar House to anyone and give it a healthy 10 but it’s now a minus 5 for disgusting hospitality and it will be a long time before I return if ever. I would never recommend. I would ask that you leave this review up as an honest review. It will save me rewriting it on my own social media and tagging it.

01/06/2025: One of the best burgers I've ever had, even when compared to high-end restaurants. Menu includes a large variety of burgers, ranging from normal toppings to unique combinations including mac and cheese, deep fried pickles, pulled pork, you name it! Price is a bit high compared to other takeaways but is well worth it for the quality of food that you get. Would highly recommend this place for any one who loves burgers!

24/08/2025: First visit: July 2024 Nice atmosphere, good service however the food was not the greatest. Second visit: August 2025 Gave Layla’s another try.. Terrible service: Staff messed up almost everyone’s order by missing some dishes & ordering wrong dishes for some. Food is still Mediocre (Pizza dough is pre baked) I would not recommend trying Layla’s for food.

23/08/2025: the crispy chicken sandwich is not breast , so i guess it is thigh or wing or something, either way it was hideous, could not finish it , it just tasted wrong and had a gross texture. it should say on the menu if it aint breast , when someone orders this type of dish they expect it to be breast , big shame, because everything else about the place is top notch. • they replied to this review thanking me for the feedback , but not a word about or explanation of what was in the chicken sandwich •
