20/08/2025: I booked a group dinner for my birthday. The staff were very attentive and helpful with securing an available time slot. They regularly checked in with me by ringing me to confirm numbers throughout the week leading up to the booking. I thought this was very thoughtful of them. However, on the night the service was very poor. The orders for food and drink were taken quickly which was good. The main courses were brought out promptly. The plates were cleared before people were finished their meals and a few of the party were being haruanged about whether they were finished. The desserts took an hour and a half, and half were brought out and the other half afterwards. The wait staff snapped at me when we asked for the other desserts. At the point of payment, it was not mentioned to me at the time of booking, over the phone when they contacted me, when we arrived and were seated nor was there any visible signage that we could not pay separately. The owner of the restaurant, an older Irish woman, shouted at my friend when she tried to request that the party of 13 people could pay separately and brought up how it was not mentioned at any point leading up to us paying. The staff continuously interrupted and cut across us every time we tried to list out what we ordered and jumped ahead to say that we had to take for xyz drinks etc. Overall the food tasted incredible however the atmosphere created by the rudeness of the staff and the delay of food was unpalatable. I would not be coming back here, even just for a date as the experience was unpleasant and we had the feeling of being rushed out the door.

20/08/2025: We went here for my best friends birthday. The food was lovely but that was the only positive. The food was late and staggered arriving from the kitchen; meaning we all couldn’t eat at the same time. When we questioned where the desserts were, we were barked at and told to sit back down. When we finished food; me and my boyfriend had to leave early, we wanted to pay separately. This was ok however when I went to tell the girl my order and what I had, she cut across me and said the waitress will tell me. I found this very insulting as I would never give an incorrect order when paying. The waitress continued to interrupt us each time we went to tell her our order to which I responded, I know my order I don’t need you to tell me like I’m not gonna pay. The staff were ignorant, very abrupt and made the atmosphere extremely unpleasant for those who remained behind for my friends birthday. I will not be going back here and tbh this restaurant left a sour taste in my mouth. They say 1st impressions are key. This was my 1st and last time going to La Fontana. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, life is too short for bickering!

05/09/2025: Came here with my daughter & grandchild.. was made very uncomfortable by the staff & rude to my daughter. A toasted sandwiche was out of the question as its breakfast time .. told her in a very rude manner ..staff has changed here i wont be back here . So dissapointing.. bla had no butter on either side 🙈 sausages not cooked n streaky bacon was burnt Wasnt given cutlery had to wait 10 mins to be served and another 20 t9 get food that was not worth 23+ euro

22/11/2025: Absolutely delicious, fantastic service, lovely calm atmosphere and a good bottle of red for 21 euro. Hopefully return soon.

23/11/2025: Well I don’t get other people’s post about how outstanding The Fitzwilton Hotel, Waterford has done. So I guess they ( by they I mean staff) were all in a shitty mood when we booked in. Because the first thing that makes your Holiday is the place you book in at that’s supposed to welcome you, and the rest is up to yourselves. First of all, there was no eye contact they continued to have their head down and either typing playing game or looking at something on a computer. The next day I asked for an extra bath towel which the receptionist had put in the computer and said to me no worries I’ll have one put in your room. I then asked about tissues and the answer was: Oh no we don’t do tissues. So all you guess booking in your going to have to blow your nose on toilet paper 🧻. I then asked for some extra coffee and milk which then she replies, OK I will add that to the towel that’s to be put in your room. Then my last request was about water. You don’t have bottle water in your room? No I haven’t. Ok I’ll make sure there is some bottles put in your room. Ok Thank You 🙂. We never received one thing. No bottle water, no extra bath towel & no more coffee & milk. Talk about skimpy & yet we ( The Customers) pay for this, don’t we? Because after spending time in Dublin & Arklow Bay & Kilkenny they all supplied bottled water in room along with tissues along with when requested more coffee & milk in your room. Fitzwilton Hotel staff were rude, anyone that walked into the lobby weren’t welcome or any guests that came in was not spoke to and a friendly smile. Not even when a guest was leaving to explore Waterford, Ireland 🇮🇪 was spoken to with a friendly; Have a nice day. So I could go on, but this guest has covered what needs to be addressed to all staff here & not just to reception or staff in the breakfast room but to bosses over these people. Because obviously, the bosses aren’t doing their job properly. If you booked through a travel agency and it’s a package and the Fitzwilton Hotel Waterford, is in the package try and swap area or Hotel. Because out of five stars I give Fitzwilton Hotel Waterford two stars. And if the lady on reception was doing her job well, she would of made sure everything that she said yes to was fulfilled by asking us. She couldn’t be bothered. So with that you spoiled it dear for everyone else. What this Hotel needs is a inspector to go through without any of staff members knowing 😉•

14/08/2025: Absolutely love this cafe! The coffee is top-notch – Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of both the drinks and the food. The interior is really nicely done too – clean, cozy, and a great place to relax or catch up with friends. Service is always quick and friendly, which makes a big difference. Definitely one of my go-to spots now. Highly recommend!

07/08/2025: Superb latte & tasty cakes with friendly service. I really enjoyed resting here & relaxing after hectic tour of surrounding attractions. Just off beaten track but so close to centre of town.

09/07/2025: Vegan and vegetarian options only, it's ok but I have had better elsewhere. ***Update as requested by the owner- reviewing experience from three months ago. Had "the garden gate" and a matcha latte.

22/05/2025: Super surprise in finding this place for vegetarian and vegan food. We had three full plates normally costing € 10.50 were priced down to €5.50 as it was after 1 pm. Food was very tasty and I am not easily impressed.

21/12/2025: Waited 35 mins on a breakfast . Asked for fried tomatoes and about Twenty half cherry tomatoes came with my egg !! We drank of coffees well before we got our food . Asked for more coffee to go with our breakfast and got charged for it . Staff would need a wake up call . Not talking orders properly listening to other tables . A pity because it’s a nice setting but won’t be coming back here any time soon . 👎.
