The best restaurants in Westmeath

29/06/2025: Looked great walking in and really busy. Food was average at best though which was disappointing considering the prices.

15/06/2025: First time at Left Bank Bistro. Had lunch here with the family. On the booking I had indicated we were celebrating a birthday but there was no effort made about that. We asked about gluten free options. One waitress told us spring rolls were gluten free but then when ordering another waiter said they were not and actually provided us with the allergen menu. The only gluten free starter was a salad. I was let down by the lack of coeliac friendly dishes on the menu. The restaurant gets quite loud when busy. There are no soft furnishings to absorb the sound, which I'd recommend adding cushions to chairs. We asked if one of the waiters could take a photo of the group and we felt very much like they couldn't get us out the door fast enough. Definitely lacking the personable and welcoming touch I'd expect from any restaurant. I'm unlikely to return soon due to my experience.

12/07/2025: Absolute favorite spot in Athlone during my study abroad trip! Came in the first night on a whim, and the welcome was so warm I kept coming back over the next month. It is a smaller spot, but the atmosphere is iconic. Ann and her dogs were my home away from home during my stay.

01/07/2025: Visited mr wongs last Saturday for my mums bday and were greeted with a gluten free menu which was fantastic , the woman serving us was delightful and friendly and the food came out instantly , reasonable prices and a great meal we will be back!

27/06/2025: The lady who served me was super friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was in my style, marked by a 60s decor. The food was nothing special, but it satisfied my hunger after a long trip. I highly recommend it.

21/10/2024: Local establishment steeped in history. The long narrow bar is perfectly designed for the local clientele but never fear this is a warm and welcoming place. The whiskey selection is epic and The beer garden is a paradise. My dad is on the wall. Beside the elephant.

30/05/2025: After a long work day in Dublin, I stopped in for a drink while waiting for my lift home. I’m not a local but live outside Mullingar. In short, don’t come here if you aren’t known to the bar staff or owner. Despite 3 staff on, I was ignored and had to move twice to even get served. White Wine was corked and warm and it felt so unwelcoming I left my drink and walked out. Ended up in Canton Casey’s across the road where the service and welcome was warm & genuine. Not sure why some pubs in Mullingar are like this but it’s embarrassing and unnecessary. Wouldn’t recommend to non locals or tourists at all.

09/05/2025: Food and drinks were amazing but the server Stephen was really creepy to my 17 year old daughter and it really sent us the other way don’t think we’ll be back as long as he’s working

27/05/2025: Be mindful that when someone comes to your restaurant looking to book a restaurant for an event, your job as a manager or owner is to kindly share the options, not to start interrogation on "where are you from"? While looking from head to toe and showing how annoyed and busy (not one consumer inside) you are. This is not how consumer service in Ireland works. I'm speaking on behalf of someone who isn't Indian and had that experience. People, if you want customers, please act accordingly. Thanks #submitting on behalf

05/05/2025: Food is not bad We ordered butter chicken and butter naans. Surprisingly Naans are good. We ordered chicken 65 starter and it's good. Overall not bad at all. People who prefer mild taste will like it more.

26/06/2025: We booked in last night. Lovely apartment. Plenty of room. Clean. I got up this morning to discover we had coffee, milk, bread , ham and cheese to start our day. Working in the hotel business in florida I appreciate all the unseen hard work that nanny quinns are doing everyday. I highly recommend a stay here.

20/06/2025: Probably the worst fish and chips ever for €19.95. 2 tiny pieces of fish in huge chunks of batter. Sent the first one back as it looked as if they forgot to put fish in one of the pieces of batter. Replacement offering was slightly better but still very poor quality and little pieces of fish. Chips were greasy but salad and coleslaw were good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful done her best to resolve the issue but was let down by the kitchen. We tried the Brie starter which was good but expensive at €9.95. Disappointed with the cleanliness of the tea cups and milk jug had to send them back.
