13/02/2026: Gertie Brownes - what a divine place near the Shannon River in Athlone. Atmospheric pub and restaurant with a fab menu with choices to appeal to anyone. Our food was delicious, the service was friendly, the beer was spot on !! This quirky little place is so worth a visit and no matter which little nook and cranny you look at, you will find something to make you smile. For us, the icing on the cake is that Gertie's is pooch friendly so we will definitely be back. Gertie Brownes gets Minnie Mayhem's paw of approval !! 🐶🐾💞

01/02/2026: A shopping centre like any other in a smaller town in Ireland. The number of shops isn’t impressive, but there were a few stores I actually cared about, which is why I travelled all the way from Sligo to Athlone specifically for them. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Back in 2025, H&M was closed for renovation, and today I was shocked by how poor it looked. The children’s section is literally just a handful of items, with the age range ending at around 10 years old. The women’s section is also a joke — there’s nothing to choose from. Everything is the same cut, the same style, only differing in size and fabric. I left empty-handed. The second shop, Zara, has completely removed the children’s section. The women’s section isn’t much different from H&M’s — are we all supposed to have the same style now and wear the same wide-leg trousers and identical cuts? There’s simply nothing to choose from. I walked out of this store empty-handed as well. I know now there’s no point in going back to Athlone. I wasted half a day and came back with nothing. It looks like online shopping is all we’re left with — unfortunately, because I really don’t like it.

11/03/2026: Great pub, excellent food & perfect service. Catered last minute for a larger group so thanks. Food was much better than expected, not pub grub at all! Very high standard of food & presentation. Reasonably priced too, however worth the extra if looking for a night out.

01/12/2025: The WORKS breakfast was as good a full Irish as I have had in long time. Good meaty sausages and the pudding cut good and thick, not penny thin like you get most places. Very helpfull staff too. Spot on!!! I will definalty be back ..

28/09/2025: Food, service and atmosphere were okay, but overall the price didn’t match the quality. Staff could pay a bit more attention to the room — for example, we asked for the bill but had to remind them again before we could pay. An average experience.

20/03/2026: Stayed for two nights. Added breakfast for both mornings to be brought to my room, paid up front upon check in. Breakfast was hugely disappointing and I could not eat it. I pre ordered the continental breakfast with wheetabix a cappuccino and fruit salad. The cappuchino was barely warm in the take out cup it arrived in. The fruit salad was warm room temperature also the milk in the jug was also warm. It was obvious it was all loaded onto the trolly well in advance and left sitting for it to have become warm when it reached my room for designated time slot I chose the night before. After the awful breakfast the first morning I called reception to cancel the second mornings breakfast. I was told I would get a call back. It never came. The next morning i checked out early and mentioned the breakfast and a possible refund. I was bluntly told I wont be refunded. No one bothered to ask why or how my stay was. A very disappointed customer.

19/03/2026: Upon arrival we where greeted by tierna who was incredibly polite and chatty. She also upgraded our room for us to a deluxe and after a long day's travel this was much appreciated :). The room was spotless and spacious and I can't think of anything to complain about 5/5 will come back.

10/11/2025: Great pub to watch sports, big screen in the back area. Comfortable and warm.

06/01/2026: Warm welcome, had a quick lunch here but the food was very tasty, well presented and great value. Would like to try dinner here. They are also dog friendly here which was perfect for us. Thanks.

09/11/2025: We had a fantastic morning coffee here! This is a lovely little cafe to visit, where the staff are very welcoming and helpful; the coffee is also delicious and strong, accompanied by a perfect carrot cake recommended by one of the baristas. There are many different areas in which to sit, each offering a different atmosphere and comfortable vibe. The music was a nice, upbeat addition, and not so loud that it was hard to chat. I noted the premises is dog friendly, which makes sense given the outdoor area. The front of shop is bright and seating is well spaced throughout. The baristas brought the coffees to the table, my flat white was good and strong which was great for early in the day, and good value for €3.70 and the carrot cake with walnuts was top notch for €3.80. They have a wide selection of individual cookies, cakes and other treats on offer, as well as some more filling options.

05/11/2025: The best cappuccino and espresso in Mullingar. The Brazilian asai was nice. Lovely place, an amazing atmosphere and music. I recommended it.

01/03/2026: Went to this restaurant on a Sunday left waiting over an hour only to be told they couldn't find our order even though I enquired about order after 35 minutes of waiting absolutely terrible service

27/02/2026: Went for lunch with our small baby and staff member Rebecca could not have been more helpful, great service which made things so much easier for us. Food was tasty and portions were big. Great to have a vegan option. Lots of parking too.

15/12/2025: Wonderful little cafe with warm service and delicious food. I had the French toast with bacon and thoroughly enjoyed it! I didn’t try them but the desserts at the counter also looked divine. Our server was very kind and attentive - would gladly recommend and go back!

01/11/2025: We had such a great experience at The Fiddlers. Kathryn, the bartender was extremely nice, conversed with the four of us in our group the entire time we were there. She had suggestions for the best sights in Ireland, and when I mentioned I had been a bartender she showed my group exactly how to pour a Guinness. A treasure trove of knowledge! We enjoyed conversation with Larry, another customer at The Fiddlers. Great atmosphere and, of course, the Guinness was really good.

07/03/2026: This place has gone so downhill. Overpriced pints, filthy dirty and some staff including manager wouldn't even acknowledge you. This place used to be so lively and welcoming. It's gotten such a bad reputation in this town and it deserves it.
