24/03/2025: I'm very sorry to say that the food, service, atmosphere, and value for money for this place have all taken a nose dive. 5 years ago I gave this place a 5 star review, with the comments below. After last night's experience I am being generous to give it two stars. First they changed the recipe of the nachos dish we were so fond of, and ignored our repeated requests to revert to the original recipe. Inexplicably they just reduced the amount of nachos, while maintaining the same amount of sauces. That's fine if you like spoonfuls of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on each soggy nacho, but it completely ruined a fine dish. We kept going there because the chicken wings were worth it. Last night though they also managed to destroy this dish too by smothering the wings in some kind of extra hot chilli sauce. Service was also poor. 5 years ago our server was attentive and easily called. Last night no one seemed to be responsible for our table. In the half empty premises it was hard to get a waiter's attention, even to pay the bill. As I paid I was expecting the usual "how was your meal" question so that I could express my disappointment, but we weren't asked so I didn't bother. Costs go up, and restaurants have to balance the books, but last night's meal was almost double what it was a few years ago, but it's hard to take when everything was so poor. Little doubt then that the place was half empty. It is sad to see this happening to a restaurant that so recently was a thriving, buzzy place. -------------------------------------------- Here's my review from 5 years ago. I like this place and visit regularly. The food is good, the atmosphere is busy, if a little noisy but that doesn't bother me. The service is always friendly, and the prices are very reasonable, especially for a restaurant in fashionable Ranelagh. Be warned, some of the portions are huge. Between two of us we frequently share a nachos starter, and for our main course we share a starter portion of chicken wings with one side of chips. That's two starters and a single portion of chips and we struggle to eat it all. Not all the portion sizes are that generous, but if you're like me & hate wasting food, ask your server.

30/03/2025: Went there today for a quick bite as this was closest eating place to Shanganagh Park. The ladies were very polite & friendly. The cafe in itself seemed a bit outdated & poorly lit. Outdoors is def better option when weather permits. Had iced coffee which was below average with one cube of ice floating in the coffee instead of crushed ice. The carrot cake was also average, not great. Could try their breakfast offering next time but the sausage rolls on display looked a bit dry.

14/03/2025: Unfortunately we had a bad experience there last week. There was a bit of a discussion on what was served to us. Got it sorted and a new dish was served. Very nice Fish and Chips. Paid at the bar for the meal. Left the place. Just got about 20 yards up the road and the waitress came shouting after us say we did not pay for the meal. Luckily my wife had paid by card. Ruined the hole day.

22/04/2025: Insanely charming – like a pub designed by Wes Anderson The Hairy Lemon is exactly what its name suggests: a little strange, quite yellow – and absolutely adorable. As soon as you walk in, you notice: Nothing here is polished. The place is crammed with junk, old photos, Irish kitsch, and stories that no one can quite tell anymore. And that's great. The food? Classically Irish, generously portioned, damn good. The Irish stew will keep you full until the day after tomorrow, and the boxty is a revelation in potato form. The Guinness? Creamy, cold, perfectly poured. And: It somehow tastes better here – maybe because of the walls, maybe because of the music. Maybe because of the guy at the next table who calls everyone by their first name. The clientele? A colorful mix of locals, hip visitors, a few tour groups – but the pub remains completely true to itself. Not too touristy, not too cool. Simply honest. And yes: There are indeed people who come just for the name. We understand. We would, too. ⸻ Conclusion: The Hairy Lemon is like a favorite sweater from a flea market – a little wild, a little vintage, but full of soul. If you really want to experience Dublin, go here. And maybe never leave.

10/02/2025: This caffe has a delicious porridge with seeds, nuts, and honey. Plus, they serve an amazing filter coffee. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great breakfast and wanting to try different types of beans!

20/04/2025: The food was so delicious and good. The service was really quick, attentive and friendly. It took some time for the food to come which was the only drawback but the waiters were very professional that it made us forget about it. The dessert are also super delicious. A very nice experience. Also, get the bone marrow, it is A MUST.

22/12/2024: A really nice cafeteria; one of the best on UCD campus in terms of quality and service. Food is cooked fresh every day, and the menu changes around weekly so always some variety and the price is affordable comparatively speaking to other food around the university. Staff are super nice, Laura and Jenny are lovely!
