Trieste Café & Wine Bar

Galway
14/11/2024: One of the nicest dining experiences we've tried, the owner creates an outstanding environment with impeccable service and the wine and cheese pairings and homemade fresh bread straight out of the oven is all perfect. 5/5 would highly recommend
11/11/2024: Trieste is an absolute must in Galway, not only is the wine and cheese selection to die for, Barry the host makes the whole experience so amazing. The music in there is vibey, food delicious and wine top notch. We were celebrating getting our engagement ring and Barry even gave me a mini bottle of Moet heading off 😍 his attention to detail makes this gem of a place one of my favourite places to eat. Cannot say enough good things about Trieste. I am already planning 2 Xmas nights out here ☺️

La Collina

Galway
17/11/2024: Such an amazing restaurant! The waitresses were so lovely and the food was phenomenal, best Italian I have had in so long! & the setting of the restaurant is so cozy🥰 huge thank you to the waitresses and chefs!
11/11/2024: Genuinely one of the most amazing meals I've ever had. I got the ravioli (it was lamb the night we went) with the mixed red/cream sauce and oh my god it was so good! Super reasonably priced too — we ordered an appetizer, two pasta meals, a dessert and some sodas, and it was way less than we expected. Our server was so kind too.

Ard Bia at Nimmos

Galway
09/12/2024: Really great brunch here last week. Coffee was excellent, food was excellent. Waiting around for 30mins in the cold outside, not so much. All in all, definitely worth the wait.
06/12/2024: Our visit to Ard Bia at Nimmos was a very positive experience. After our arrival we were immediately shown to a table without waiting and our order was taken quickly. The restaurant offers an impressive selection of beers and plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians - a big plus. I ordered the Beef Toast with Onion Salad and Cheddar for €13.80, while my partner chose the “Roasted Pumpkin with Seeds and Irish Cheese” for €16.80. Both dishes were excellent: the seasoning was particularly good and the ingredients were fresh. The toast was crispy and perfectly cooked. The restaurant itself is very clean, and the attentive service ensured that everything was to our satisfaction. The only negative is the toilet - there is only one small, unisex toilet for all guests, which is a bit inconvenient. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Ard Bia at Nimmos is a great place for fresh, tasty food with good service, but the toilet area could do with some improvement.

25/11/2024: We popped in because we seen a sign that said “live music”. We walked in and were Shocked by how amazing and how cool it was. The place is smaller and we were crammed but good cider and good vibes and GREAT music. Not sure if they had a name or just people who played together.
19/11/2024: Good lively little pub with a great selection of beers

Dela

Galway
04/12/2024: I went here for a friend’s celebration. There was a group of us and we were quite squished at the table, but I understood they also had two other large parties in the restaurant so space was a bit limited. I ordered the flank steak but I was told it was actually rump. I didn’t hear what the waitress said from the noise but I assumed it was fine so I just nodded and accepted. My mistake. Rump is not really a steak cut and it certainly is not worth 34 quid. It also took about an hour for our food to come out even though other guests seemed to get theirs on time? When it did arrive it was supposed to come with crispy onions and mine had like two or three on top. It was very grey and then very red all of a sudden in the centre like it was cooked very unevenly. I usually eat medium rare but it was strange. It was incredibly tough, I was chewing for ages and it was horrible. There was also an onion puree that wasn’t mentioned on the menu which I would have asked not to be included as I have sensory issues with food. The drinks were nice, dessert was okay. The two servers we had were actually lovely but at the very end another server who hadn’t waited on our table that night gave us the bill. That was fine, she gave us a few minutes and we split it between us and paid our amounts. She said she’d check it at the till and we said no problem. She then returned and said there was an extra two euro paid and we said ah sure grand but then she said she didn’t realise we hadn’t paid the service charge and if she had know before hand she would have mentioned it. We asked if it was mandatory and she said no but it was a standard everywhere. We looked at her funny, knowing it is not standard. She then proceeded to ask if we were from here, which I found rude because two members of the group were not white. We told her yes we were locals and she said that it was standard for groups of 6. She continued to repeat this and say that it’s standard because it’s a lot of work to wait on a large group. I’m sorry but we only ordered mains and two desserts and some drinks. We would have been gone sooner but the food took an hour to come. We weren’t a demanding table, we only ordered drinks when a server came up and asked. I don’t understand how the server at the end can not serve us all night, take the bill and then demand we tip 10% Tipping culture is not a thing in Ireland. I won’t be returning to a restaurant that tries to enforce tipping. If I had it and the service was amazing, sure why wouldn’t I? But service wasn’t amazing and the very snarky tone at the end soured the mood which made me not want to even tip the extra two euro that was paid by us.
03/12/2024: This farm to table gem is a must try in Galway. Everything was delicious! You can’t go wrong coming here for a meal.

Murphy's Ice Cream

Galway
30/11/2024: Most kind and attentive staff selling delicious selection of ice-cream. And it's made of real milk, the first thing you get when stepping in is a dairy factory smell, that only someone whose family owned a dairy farm remember... Anyway, back into the room. The lovely lady with body piercing offer us one ice-cream for free when she heard one of us was celebrating a big birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉. So kind
30/11/2024: Murphy’s Ice Cream in Galway definitely has a special reputation, but my visit only partially convinced me. I chose the small size waffle for €6, with the varieties peanut butter and Irish cream (with alcohol, similar to Baileys). However, the portion was really very small - the ice cream was eaten in about two minutes. The medium size costs €7.50 and the large costs around €9. For me, the taste of the ice cream wasn't anything special, perhaps because I'm used to the often cheaper but very high quality Italian ice cream in Germany. My wife ordered a hot chocolate with 70% dark chocolate for €4.50 and was very satisfied. The drink was really intensely chocolaty and a real recommendation for chocolate lovers. The shop itself hardly offers any seating, which is a shame because you would like to enjoy the ice cream or cocoa in peace. A big plus, however, is the friendly staff who gave us a warm welcome. It is also possible to try varieties before deciding, which is a nice service. Overall, Murphy's Ice Cream is okay, but the small portions and the comparatively high price don't quite justify the quality of the ice cream in my opinion. While the ambience and the cocoa score points, the ice cream remains rather average for me. Therefore I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
