Abbeyglen Castle Hotel

20/06/2025: Great stay in a historic location. Our room was comfortable. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The owner has a nightly welcome event in the on-site pub where he details the history of the castle. He is a convivial host and he take pictures of the guests which he presents as keepsakes at dinner. Very enjoyable.
The owner is a friendly guy; however, it felt like his friendliness was more performative with us than others, which took some of the fun out of it for me. I guess we were too old and not pretty enough to be fascinating like the younger group of Canadians he seemed to fixate on.

06/06/2025: This is a great restaurant in the pretty town of Clifden (a word of advice: make a reservation!). The decor is chic and welcoming.
A menu that emphasizes seafood, but we also enjoyed some very good Irish meat, accompanied by a delicious whisky sauce, of course.
Not to mention a great wine list from Europe, South America, New Zealand, and more.

03/05/2025: Excellent, the coconut chili mussels dish is killer... The mussels are local and super well cooked. The staff is very pleasant and welcoming although the restaurant is crowded.
01/05/2025: Been coming to Clifden for 30 years and first time in Guy's. Absolutely fantastic. Chowder excellent. Great music. Guinness Perfect. Staff friendly and professional. Looking forward to coming here for the next 30 years!

18/06/2025: I was here with friends on a weekend and the area we sat in was spacious and near the front.
For starters, I had the soup of the day (creamy veg) and we were given a mix of white and brown sharing bread.
For mains, I had steak with sweet potato chips, onion rings, sauteed onions, mushrooms and pepper sauce. The steak was huge and perfectly cooked. The portion size was huge so I didnt have room for dessert!!
The red wine and coffee were also delicious.
The staff were attentive and everything was reasonably priced.
The staff were obliging when I asked for a candle in my friends dessert for her birthday.
I would come here again and recommend to others.

24/05/2025: Great food and fab service for dinner. They squeezed us in without a booking. Only slight downside was regular loud ‘bing bong’ noise presumably to alert waiting staff to food being ready.
23/05/2025: We ate out three times during our stay in Clifden. It was always perfect. The service was very fast and friendly, and the food was very good and plentiful. I highly recommend it.

Good breakfast and excellent espresso (perhaps the only one worthy of being called coffee up to now!)

While looking for a bite to eat, something gluten-free, we found this little café.
Great food, delicious vegetarian soup of the day, gluten-free sandwich – super friendly service.
Definitely recommend it!

21/05/2025: Great hotel in Clifden! This should def be categorized as a 4 star. Great accommodations, good restaurant and bar, great location and the service was definitely 5 star! The staff were so accommodating and kind and helped us store our bikes and navigate details on our cycle trip. Special shoutout to Fiona and Shauna and the numerous porters who were fantastic and kind. Would always recommend!

A true gem of a place

06/05/2025: After having had a delicious time, both on the plate and in this charming restaurant... We decided to return for a second evening, just as delicious. The lamb is succulent, the products are fresh, as for the Irish coffee...
And the service is impeccable!!

15/06/2025: The food was nice and tasty, though the portion is smaller compared to other restaurants of the same type. The view at the sitting area at the back is very good overlooking the river.
14/06/2025: Myself and friends stopped here for dinner on a Friday evening. I had the chicken curry and it was v spicy but tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious. We sat out the back. The service was good and the atmosphere was lively.

22/05/2025: What a fabulous experience we had. On a west of Ireland trip and Foyles has been a firm favourite for years. It was our first return since before covid, and we always have a group of musicians. Jason was so welcoming, gave us thd use of Mullarkeys Bar and it was a firm favourite. Sandra and Luke served us in the mornings and their service was a great, pleasant and swift as their smiles. Keep up the good work!!

24/06/2025: Popped into a couple of places in clifden and staff were all rude , couldn’t believe it … then I came across this gem …. Staff were gorgeous cakes all homemade real nostalgic and the coffee is excellent ❤️❤️ avoid the other places and go to steam
