The best restaurants in Mayo

15/02/2025: A week after the ferocious storm which had been on 25 January we went for a ride out to the coast as it was a very sunny, if slightly cool day. Late afternoon we drove to Ballina and thought we'd eat at the Ballina Manor hotel. What an exquisite place!. Lovely sumptuous carpeting and furnishings with dining tables set alongside windows affording lovely views of the river, bridge and the town. The meal was excellent. Very large portions, served hot and with the steak cooked to our liking. The service was excellent too. We cannot wait to eat there again.

04/02/2025: From the minute I arrived at the Ballina Manor the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and top marks for cleanliness. They all deserve recognition for excellent customer care, you're not a number here, the personal touch in every aspect of my stay.

31/03/2025: Best chicken Caesar salad in Mayo!! Chicken breast sandwich is an awesome snack. Pizza very yummy. Plus fuel, car washing facilities as well as "snacks".

23/03/2025: This place used to be good the last 3 visits have been bad. First of the last three visits the meals were ordered large and was given medium meals. Second visit the food was cold and the last visit the food was cold and ingredients missing from one meal and was only given one drink and the person behind the counter was adamant there was only one drink ordered when there was more than one meal ordered. I would advise to keep going to the next supermacs!

28/08/2024: Excellent meal in the restaurant, with a good selection of dishes under €18. The food was fab with decent portions and well presented. Very friendly staff who could not have been more helpful.

23/02/2025: Amazing experience from start to finish! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel so welcome. On top of that, the value for money was excellent. Top-quality ingredients, and great prices. I’ll be coming back for sure!

18/02/2025: My husband and I had a wonderful few nights here looked after superbly by Anthony . The Full Irish was the best we’ve ever tasted with homemade bread and local produce. Endless pots of tea , fresh fruits , yoghurts , cereals and juices. The freshly baked scones were to die for ! Tea / coffee /biscuits always available in the gorgeous quirky sitting room. Our second visit here ( last one pre covid ) and so sorry the restaurant is now closed but plenty of lovely places to eat in Charlestown only a few minutes walk from the Riverside. We will definitely return as the location is perfect for visiting Knock Shrine and a few minutes from the airport .

18/03/2025: Really gorgeous little cafe. The wait staff were exceptionally lovely, the menu was interesting and the food was clearly homemade and delicious. Good value too. Definitely recommending stopping here!

27/12/2024: I've been putting off writing this review because the prospect of saying everything that needs to be said is daunting. Maybe impossible. And also because I nominated them for a wedding venue award, which took awhile. My wife and I had our wedding and reception here in October for about 30 people. The atmosphere was perfect - cozy and intimate but not overcrowded or stuffy. It felt comfortable and homey but not cheap. A quintessential country pub, with all the tradition that carries. The food was incredible (spit-roasted local lamb over an open hearth turf fire, anyone?), the photographer was great, and the music (both live and DJ) was sincerely amazing. Everything was included in the wedding package, even two nights at a stunning cottage overlooking the lough. But Naoise, the coordinator, truly sent it over the top. She was constantly available, proactively engaged, and just went miles above and beyond to remove the stress of planning a wedding from overseas. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. They made us feel somehow simultaneously celebrated and part of the community. It was a perfect wedding. Absolutely perfect. If you're looking for a genuine human experience from an alternative microwedding venue that boasts waterfront dining in a rural Gaeltacht community, this is your spot. We laughed, we cried, we danced, and we cannot stop talking about it. It might not be my home, but it now occupies a suspiciously home-shaped place in my heart. Naoise, we'll be back!

12/05/2024: Beautiful meal in Maxwell's tonight. Staff were super friendly and the food was exceptional. Had garlic mushrooms to start and chicken & beef main and couldnt fault it. Would definitely recommend a visit

23/09/2024: Alojarnos en el castillo de Ashford, esperábamos una cena increíble en Cullen, nuestra primera noche en la propiedad. Sin embargo, nos decepcionaron. El interior es escaso en el mejor de los casos y se divide en dos comedores, ninguno de los cuales es atractivo. El menú imita el espacio, nada divertido y creativo, solo cocina típica irlandesa. Olvídate de comprar fish & chips, pollo o un filete decente aquí. La mejor opción para la cena: Dirígete a Cong para disfrutar de una increíble comida en Pat Cohen's.
