The best restaurants in Mayo

14/06/2025: Walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and got served! Delicious food for a good price and kind humans. Don't overlook this place.

23/04/2025: We really loved the food — both the presentation and the taste were excellent. Portions were generous, the staff was friendly, and the price was right for the quality. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the poor ventilation; we left with a strong food odour in our clothes, which was quite unpleasant.

06/06/2025: We got stranded in the pub after getting a flat tire and still had a sweet evening due to the lovely host Peter, the charming atmosphere and nice food. Thanks again for your hospitality.

18/06/2025: Try to avoid. Poor food quality and poor service: too many sauces to cover up the fact that the meats are dry and overcooked.

09/06/2025: The food is nice, the prices seem good but be aware that if you ask for any little change such as a different sauce or half & half rice & chips or differently cooked chicken, they will start to add on the €3 extra charges . It's not clear what exactly they charge €3 multiples extra for and it needs to be 😳. The desserts are expensive😰 (not worth it). I expected my bill for three people, popping in for a lunch snack, to be in the region of €40 (three €10 meals & 2 desserts). At the checkout it came to over €62! Ouch! Seems we got quite a few €3 charges & I wasn't sure what for!? Careful what you ask for here. Also, our food came but no cutlery to eat it with - we had to get up & go searching. The way you can see the cooks working in the kitchen is good though. Management needs to be a bit more transparent about prices & keep an eye on customer service. Customers expect the price of sauces & chips instead of rice to be included or at least be transparent.

14/06/2025: Cafe Rua is rarely quiet and for good reason. Never less than imaginative, with a twist of orthodoxy thrown in - the food here really is delicious. The service and warmth of the welcome is second to none. This restaurant is a credit to Castlebar and Mayo. We look forward to visiting it every time we are in Mayo.

05/06/2025: Cafe Rua was recommended to me by a friend who lives locally. Overall very disappointing and I won’t be back. The coffee was very average, nowhere near the quality of specialty coffee. The food was adequate although it would be nice to be offered preserves with toast. The lady who took my order was very friendly and helpful. The colleague who brought the coffee and food to my table practically threw it at me, the toast slid off the plate. This individual would benefit from some customer service training. I paid at the till and had to wait for 2 other team members to finish their conversation before one of them deigned to serve me. Really disappointing overall and a shame that this was the last food business we visited after a week in Mayo as it really made a poor impression and left a bad taste after experiencing such fantastic hospitality elsewhere. Try elsewhere if you’re in town.

28/04/2025: Very comfy, newly furbished looking bar with grrat craic to be had. Good.positioning of tv's for sport events or even to look.at Corrie. The staff are well able.to do their jobs. Recommend to call in for a quart
