The best restaurants in Mayo

24/06/2025: Father's day dinner was superb. The place was buzzing on the day so the staff were busy but were still so attentive and friendly. Food was fab too. Will definitely return on quieter weekends.

09/06/2025: Had Sunday lunch here and it was excellent. Very spacious dinning area and it full of local people so that's always a good sign. Food was excellent and the portions were big and good value. Everything was spotless and a special mention to the young waiting staff as they were all excellent, friendly and jolly. Definitely recommend

07/07/2025: Food was 5 stars Rooms 0 stars (if I could) I hate negative reviews, but needs must. Booked a twin room using booking dot com and not sure if that made a difference to room allocation but when you arrive and if they hand you the keys to Room 3, insist on another room. The most uncomfortable bed I've ever "slept" in and the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, the mould aggravated my allergies/asthma so much so that im miserable on check out. Breakfast and dinner downstairs was really good. Michelle is fantastic. Location suited us for an event in The Lodge at Ashford Castle but definitely should have booked elsewhere.

07/01/2025: Great country pub serving a lovely pint of Guinness. Bar staff are attentive, a lovely fire keeping the place warm and sporting events on the TV's. What more could a visitor from Australia ask for.

20/06/2025: Authentic old Irish pub. Places like this are disappearing fast, mores the pity. Lovely pint of Guinness and friendly barmaid. Would loved to have stayed longer but I will be back soon.

28/06/2025: Everything about the Ice House was fabulous from the second we were greeted at check in to the professional and friendly staff in the restaurant and bars. We couldn't have had a better stay so thanks to everybody and we'll see you soon again.

04/04/2025: I'm a hard working Irish man working a job that the majority of Irish people refuse to work in and that is the care of elderly in nursing homes for many years. I arrived to Ballina for the night after sightseeing the Mayo coast. Without having previously taken a drink of alcohol I was refused service at this pub saying "I had too much to drink tonight". The real reason was my Limerick accent and what one local barman said to me. This pub believed me to be belonging to an "ethnic minority" which means to us Irish as the Travelling Community. I have been up and down my country of Ireland and as a middle aged man I have never experienced any type of discrimination before. What a shame they trade off the name of Joe Biden. Close minded bigots. Avoid if you are a tourist to Ireland this is not an authentic Irish pub.

27/12/2024: I've been putting off writing this review because the prospect of saying everything that needs to be said is daunting. Maybe impossible. And also because I nominated them for a wedding venue award, which took awhile. My wife and I had our wedding and reception here in October for about 30 people. The atmosphere was perfect - cozy and intimate but not overcrowded or stuffy. It felt comfortable and homey but not cheap. A quintessential country pub, with all the tradition that carries. The food was incredible (spit-roasted local lamb over an open hearth turf fire, anyone?), the photographer was great, and the music (both live and DJ) was sincerely amazing. Everything was included in the wedding package, even two nights at a stunning cottage overlooking the lough. But Naoise, the coordinator, truly sent it over the top. She was constantly available, proactively engaged, and just went miles above and beyond to remove the stress of planning a wedding from overseas. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. They made us feel somehow simultaneously celebrated and part of the community. It was a perfect wedding. Absolutely perfect. If you're looking for a genuine human experience from an alternative microwedding venue that boasts waterfront dining in a rural Gaeltacht community, this is your spot. We laughed, we cried, we danced, and we cannot stop talking about it. It might not be my home, but it now occupies a suspiciously home-shaped place in my heart. Naoise, we'll be back!

19/06/2025: The pints are the creamiest I’ve ever tasted and the long hallways are decorated with history. Some really nice characters in there early doors. British lad named Nathan surely knows his away around the pool table, him and his pal Mark gave us a right licking!

25/03/2025: Wow! Simple ingredients put together so interestingly. Some talented and super friendly people in that building. Had an amazing quick lunch while visiting Ballinrobe, followed by a delicious flavoured coffee. Couldn’t help but return the next day!
