The best restaurants in Cork city council

24/10/2024: Legitimately the best Mochas I have ever had. To the point where I only buy my beans from them and asked them what chocolate they used so I could purchase my own for home.

03/09/2024: Yummy coffee in a really cool little setting. The beautiful lady serving me was so friendly and makes beautiful latte art! Thank you.

28/10/2024: We were a party of 6 and booked the table in the restaurant upstairs . I had to call in to make the reservation as the online reservation system was not working and 3 of us tried to book online . We arrived at 8 pm and went upstairs only to find the restaurant was in darkness and no customers or staff present . We next into the bar and had to wait 20 minutes where a gentleman took our details and disappeared. I then spoke to another member of staff where she said he is preparing the table and turning the lights on . We left the premises after standing around for 30 minutes. There was no apology from anybody and then I got an email asking if we enjoyed our meal .I could not recommend the East Village for food and it looks like the premises is likely to close permanently . All of the other bars and restaurants in Douglas were full on the same night during the Jazz Festival yet the East Village Restaurant was closed and the downstairs bar was quiet.

20/10/2024: do NOT even think about hosting a birthday party here for your kids, security are extremely aggressive especially with women, saw multiple women pushed to the ground for absolutely no reason by power hungry security guards. The only thing the bar does right is checking ID at the door which gets rid of the hassle of checking for ID when ordering drinks at the bar. however, I noticed multiple girls getting pulled out the bar by the female bouncers and bartenders for the mere reason of feeling sick. While waiting in the bathroom, one girl was pulled out of the cubicle by a member of staff for feeling sick and thrown out of the establishment. The girl was left stranded outside with no idea what was going on as she was so drunk. There is no communication between the bouncers upstairs and downstairs so do not even try to explain a miscommunication as they are not even bothered to listen. However, the aggressive and harassing lads were left scot free by the bouncers and were not punished for touching the girls inappropriately. Now I completely understand that the party was very busy but as a business owner, you need to train you staff better on what is and isn’t allowed and to increase communication between the ground staff and the party staff. At this point in time I would never promote this place to any parent…just go to corner flag!

31/10/2024: Great sandwich and raspberry smoothies! The staff was so helpful in offering their personal recommendations and assistance! 10/10, I would go here everyday if I lived here.

30/10/2024: Staff have a really bad attitude. Got my coffee order wrong and didn’t apologise but rather told me I must have ordered wrong. My colleagues go in all the time and order the same thing but there is no attempt by the staff to learn their usual orders. They have to constantly be told the same order everyday and still they regularly get it wrong. Not typical at all of any good coffee shop. Super cheap management too. They have a stamp card that requires 12 stamps instead of the usual 10 and on top of that it only applies to coffee and no other type of drink which is ridiculous. I ordered their chicken sandwich that had about 3 shreds of chicken in it. The price of the coffees are extortionate. Way more expensive than anywhere else near them which is especially insulting because their coffee is disgusting and acidic. The atmosphere is choking. No room to swing a cat in there and barely enough room to stand while waiting for your coffee. Overall very poor on every level.

26/10/2024: the food is amazing, if you have the app it offers very good deals! The chicken is amazing, and I would absolutely recommend getting the muffin with ice cream.

13/11/2024: I have stayed here before, and really enjoyed it. Beds were amazing, steam , sauna was fantastic! However, this year I did enjoy it also, but felt it has been left in some areas and needs work!. Changing room in gym and swim was dirty, floors wet (i mopped with one that was there )nappy left from kids swim. Some of the wood at the bottom of the lockers was totally rotten. One.or two showers needed attention too. I understand that it has a high foot fall, but the basic things need to be checked. The trainers were just sitting at the reception desk so we're not busy. Lovely people, just maybe needed a little.push to check things. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Bar food was really good too. Service behind the bar was extremely slow,but the waiters were faster than last year. Over all I did have a lovely stay. I am just personally picking things from last year. Beds were not good this year, quite soft as last year felt amazing! I only uses the shower once in my room and tbh glad , as it wasn't great. Power was awful. I enjoyed staying here,possibly because my friends were with me....However disappointed that it wasn't the same as the previous year. Probably leave it and try another hotel.

12/11/2024: I stayed here three nights in October for a business trip. It's a nice hotel and is located on the "island" in Cork between the two rivers, towards the eastern end. The hotel is showing a bit of age, but everything was clean and the room was comfortable. The room was a very nice size by European standards, and had one full and one single bed. There was a work area and the bathroom was a nice size. Bed was comfortable, water was plenty hot, towels were fresh and there was tea/coffee in the room. No complaints at all. There is a large breakfast room on the ground floor, and a coffee bar where you can grab a quicker bite. Breakfast was full Irish buffet, and cost 18 Euro in 2024 when I visited. Staff were friendly and the place was clean. I didn't use the restaurant otherwise, nor the bar, but they seemed popular with guests. There is public parking garage under the hotel, and I think it was 14 Euro per day with a small hotel discount; you have to remember to get your ticket validated at the front desk to get it however! Speaking of the front desk, they were friendly storing my luggage on the first day, and with calling me a cab upon departure. I would stay here again.

20/10/2024: Thought I'd give this place a try a few days ago, must say I'm not overly impressed. Coffee tasted cheap and lady who served me wasn't the friendliest. I'll stick with my local Badger and Dodo in South mall, better coffee and staff

10/09/2024: Great coffee, great place - but the newly hired young woman is beyond rude. Came here 2-3 times, no hello, seems annoyed at customers for no reason, zero politeness. Obviously unhappy being here - making it a very bad experience for customers.

09/11/2024: This used to be a great spot back in the day but the last time I visited I was shocked to hear some of the backwards comments about immigrants from the manager himself. I took some international work colleagues here and to say I was embarrassed at the comments he was loudly making for all to hear would be an understatement. I will never come back again.

28/09/2024: GET A NEW SECURITY MAN! We were sitting down outside and an older couple came up to the door and asked some fellow having a cigarette if they were still serving inside and he said he wasn't sure but they'd probably be finishing soon (it was about 12.20am and the security had already turned away 2 or 3 pairs of people from going in). They asked for recommendations on where they should go and he VERY POLITELY gave them some, they then thanked him and left. Next thing the security very aggressively told him that he didn't work here and to get out. There was no need for this attitude at all. We've been talking about it all night and think it's an absolute disgrace that you'd have someone on your door treating a customer who couldn't have been nicer with such disrespect!

17/10/2024: Lovely place. Very friendly and efficient staff. Lunchtime special is definitely worth the cost as well. I enjoy my lunch most days here.

26/10/2024: I discovered recently that the cafe downstairs had moved to the place upstairs where the restaurant used to be. They open of breakfast and lunch only and close at 6.00 p.m. I was pleasantly surprised to find the food very good and not expensive. It is not in the same league as the previous Upstairs Restaurant which was excellent but the food in this cafe is good and reasonably priced.

24/10/2024: Delivery drivers always parked on footpaths and cycle lanes even where there's parking clearly available. Really antisocial, and makes me think they don't care about the community. Whatever their excuse is it's not ok to send kids cycling to school out of the cycle lane and into motor vehicle traffic

01/11/2024: Had a really disappointing experience here last night, booked a table at 8pm for myself, my partner and our two friends. We ordered food at 8:30pm and didn’t receive it until almost 10:30pm. I believe it was down to one person working that night in particular. A short girl with black hair and a grey shirt on, we ordered with her and were told she didn’t pass on our order to the chefs, who were very apologetic. We got no apology from her instead from other colleagues, the other staff tried very hard to accommodate us and were very apologetic. After I spoke to that girl on two occasions she finally checked on our order and didn’t offer any help afterwards. Chefs said the food would take another 15 minutes but still passed out other people’s food before making ours. The food was very nice but I honestly didn’t even want to finish it at that stage, we were all trying to be as considerate as possible but at that stage it was getting pretty ridiculous. First we were given a full price bill and I went back up to the bar and that same girl seemed like she couldn’t care less about us, so I spoke with someone else. Finally my partner tried to get her attention again to pay but was ignored. I had to actually raise my voice at her to get her attention which I absolutely did not want to do. We paid and left afterwards. We appreciated the discount and apologies from staff but the whole experience was just so poor. It really only takes one person to bring down the vibe of a place. I think more time should be allocated to train staff on how to work efficiently with chefs and process orders accordingly. I’d hate for anyone to have to experience this as the food really is fantastic. It was just a real shame. To wait 2 hours for service is not acceptable. - I tried to find an email to respond to your answer, there’s no email online anywhere. Rang the restaurant to ask for email and staff wouldn’t give it to me, phone line was so bad they hung up on me. I give up :)
