02/08/2025: Interesting museum. It's very small and contains a lot of exhibits – unfortunately, many of them without any explanations. For example, at the entrance, there are many photos on a screen, but the information is lacking. Overall, the museum could use at least twice as much space, and the exhibition needs to be made much more user-friendly. It's very noisy in the space (a former church). The café is nice, with delicious cakes and friendly staff. There's a small garden with a pond at the back.

25/07/2025: Didn't actually visit the museum just went in for lunch. The cafe is excellent. I did walk many of the mining trails and the information plaques were very good.

09/08/2025: Probably the best bar in Cork city! Great atmosphere and the staff are sooo sound! We came for the dart board but stayed for the friendly staff, unreal service and bang on customers!! Pleasure to have a few there!!

23/11/2025: Recently ate here with my daughter after a hospital appointment, I have never posted a negative review on any website but this place was appalling. Waitress was pleasant and friendly but two male staff (possibly owners)were present in the eat-in area the whole time we ate watching videos blaring on their phones. They then began arguing and shouting at each other and at one stage I thought it was going to get physical. My daughter and I were the only people eating in the restaurant so felt very uncomfortable .This went on for the duration of our meal.So unprofessional and rude. Food was pretty rough but would have got over that if it was a nice atmosphere. AVOID!!

23/11/2025: This place is busy. We are almost at the holidays and the tables were all reserved for parties and functions. Standing room only so a friend of mine and I stood at the bar for a while until a couple of stools freed up. Since the parties at the bar were catered ordering food seemed difficult. We only had drinks and chatted nicely until the DJ came on and the music got louder. Then it got difficult to hear our conversation but we really enjoyed the music. 80's and 90's music which was nice and everyone started dancing. So much fun to be had and the dancers were in front of the door and getting out was a challenge. Overall my rating is 4 stars because we couldn't sample the menu. The drinks were good and the service was great. I will definitely return at a less busier time.

03/11/2025: We had the afters for our son’s christening at The Briar Rose at the end of September (a very overdue review!) and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Abbie looked after our every request with incredible care and patience — we’re Irish living abroad, so I’m sure I must have driven her a little mad with all my questions, but she was always so responsive and reassuring. Even on the morning of the christening, as I was dropping off the cake and setting up decorations, my first encounter with Bryan immediately put me at ease. He was friendly, flexible, and so attentive — truly the standout for us on the day. I was feeling a bit stressed about timing and food service, and he handled everything effortlessly, making the whole experience so much smoother. The food was absolutely sensational — everyone was raving about it! The venue itself was perfect, exactly what I had envisioned. There was also a really lovely bartender (can't remember her name but she was from Pittsburgh - I put in a drinks order for 60 people and she didn't even bat an eyelid!). The team was thoughtful in every detail, and we can’t wait for another event there in the hopefully near future. The Briar Rose is the perfect spot, and Bryan was a true gem — we are so grateful for such a wonderful experience! Thank you! Olive (the Boston girl!)

03/10/2025: Not long after a collection order, family Thursday deal, wings, burger, garlic bread with cheese, baguette with chips and a drink. Service was spot on from phone order to collection, friendly staff and a nice girl even opened the door when I was leaving. The food was absolutely banging, if Mr Donatello himself walked in the door and asked what could be done better I genuinely wouldn't have an answer, absolutely not one fault could be found with any of the food, from one chef to another 👏👏👏👏👏👏 keep her lit

06/09/2025: Who ever was on shift tonight (5th September) hats off to the cooks. Tonight's baguette was the nicest baguette i have had from donatellos in a long time. Ingredients all tasted so fresh and ratios of toppings in baguette was perfect. Absolutely beautiful, hopefuly high standard keeps up 👏🙏

15/06/2025: I had high hopes for this place, but after witnessing what goes on behind closed doors, I can’t recommend it. The lack of professionalism and questionable after-hours behaviour were deeply disappointing. What’s worse, after leaving my honest opinion, I received an intimidating message. That says more about the place than any review could. I was a regular customer. I expected decency, not fear. Not sure if management is aware, but if they are, that alone should be a red flag. Think twice before supporting this place.

14/06/2025: El fenix is possibly the best bar in cork city. Every single member of staff makes sure to make you feel welcomed. Savage music, beautiful pints, best spot in the city
