07/11/2025: First time in store today. Very impressed with the range of products, the layout of store and value for money. One of the nicest SuperValues I've been in . Lovely, local feeling in store and Customer/Staff relations which are gone in a lot of other stores. Will definitely be back

Hansel and Gretel Bakery & Patisserie
Dublin
28/12/2025: Artisan bakery, the decor is lovely and the service is fast. The cookies were delicious.
24/09/2025: I've been staying a number of days at a hotel near Hansel and Gretel, and have found this great little bakery and coffee shop a convenient stop as I'm walking to various tourist sites. The pastries are freshly baked and very good, and the coffee (which may be supplied by a coffee shop chain called Ariosa) is very good. Unlike other nearby coffee shops, Hansel and Gretel has no seating either inside or outside. But if a takeaway cup of coffee and a pastry is your thing, this is a great choice.

River Cafe
Dublin
17/05/2026: Myself & my partner visited this cafe on Saturday 16th May, based on our previous experience some weeks ago, when we got a delicious lunch of smoked salmon & cream. cheese with a cup of soup, which was special of the day. Our 2nd visit was far from even satisfactory. The special, which my partner opted for, was described as a goats cheese salad with pomegranate & oranges & nuts. There was little or no goats cheese, one small piece of orange, no nuts and the plate was mostly filled with rocket, priced at €14, very bad value. The waitress had an extremely poor attitude when I complained about it and was totally indifferent to my complaint. I asked for the owner and was told she was away until the following week.
Would not be returning to this cafe. Before I left I heard the same waitress tell a couple at 4.05 pm that they were closing in 5 minutes when it states online that closing time is 5.00 pm.
This waitress badly needs a lesson in good customer service.
When presented with the Bill, there was no offer to reduce it to account for the complaint.
15/05/2026: Had small breakfast. Really tasty and cooked well. Staff lovely. Was busy but got a great table at the window for four of us. No complaints from any of us.

The Lord Edward
Dublin
14/12/2025: Old, cosy traditional pub, with genuinely nice staff (shout out to young dark haired bartender who had the patience of a saint). Great buzzy atmosphere. Will call again!
05/12/2025: The Lord Edward made it onto my “Dublin Pub Crawl” list thanks to a bartender at the Guinness Gravity Bar who swore it had a great pint of Guinness and insisted we check out the upstairs. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the upstairs was closed. Still no idea what is up there or why it was recommended.
This is a small pub with a unique bar layout and plenty of age behind it. And by “age,” I mean it has not seen a remodel in a very, very long time. The men’s room is basically just a wall with a drain on the floor (which I found highly amusing), and according to the bartenders, the women’s bathroom used to be a broom closet that was converted once women were allowed into pubs. That alone tells you everything you need to know about how much this place has changed over the years. Very authentic and cool in its own way.
We stopped in late on a Thursday night. The crowd was wrapping up, so we managed two rounds before last call. The bartenders signal last call the old school way, by flicking the lights on and off. Gave me a good laugh.
As for the pint… it was okay. One bartender knew what he was doing and poured a proper Guinness. The other poured it the way Americans do when they have no idea what they are doing, and he did it consistently.
I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Lord Edward and got plenty of laughs out of the whole experience. The company was great and the pub absolutely has character. Now, if we can only get that one bartender on board with pouring Guinness correctly…
We still want to know what is upstairs.
