18/08/2025: This Chinese restaurant was a complete surprise to me i wasn't expecting to find a Chinese restaurant in Carraroe but what a nice surprise staff were very nice service was good the food was great and the place has a pleasant friendly atmosphere and good prices.

30/06/2025: We ate here on both of our evenings in the beautiful village of Portmagee. Magnificent seafood, I had hake here on one night and John Dory the second - both fantastic. We all ate well and had a visit from the friendly owner making sure all was well. As an aside, we also had breakfast here, again it was excellent. All servers were friendly, helpful and attentive. I could not recommend this restaurant/Balmore highly.

13/06/2025: We spent a week driving around eating at some really great restaurants in Ireland, but this one was one of the absolute best. An amazing surprise, considering the few choices in this town for food. Everything was done with fresh, quality ingredients and with a great attention to detail. Just a great surprise and an amazing lunch. Best brown bread I had in Ireland. The lamb shanks and the stew are highly recommended.

17/09/2025: The location was amazing! Right in the middle of Oia which is perfect. The service was amazing. Kostas ( the owner) went above and beyond. He helped us with what to do, he booked us reservations, cab services and much more. He was there whenever you needed him. The rooms were good too!

07/09/2025: Our room smelled strongly of chemicals. Service was decent. New carpet was nice. Room was clean.

18/10/2025: I could get no room in the shearwater hotel, they recommend pillar house bar to me, I just wanted a bed to sleep in, nothing fancy. It's in the town , and a few steps down from the pub itself. Absolutely did the job for me, the bed is massive and ensuite small but it's only me. 50 euro for the night no breakfast, that's grand And no hurry up in the morning.

05/08/2025: A very nice, old school hotel. It has a quaint and cozy feel. Downsides are that there is only street parking (or a municipal lot), there is also no lift (but they happily ferry your luggage up and down for you), and the guests tend to skew older.

17/08/2025: At the start of our service we were seated quickly and servers were inexperienced but pleasant. Service however is not the main fault . After ordering we were shocked by state at which are starters were presented the garlic mushrooms were burnt so badly they were black. So we asked for a waiter and just simply requested for another portion which wasn’t burnt after which they presented us with a non burnt portion of mushrooms however there was a living moving insect in the sauce of the side salad. After complaining for a second time due to the horrible food the manager came out and gave us the meal for free. However the meals we ordered for our mains were very lack luster . They presented us with two steaks one medium one medium well . The steaks had a lot of fat making a lot of it inedible and the mushrooms and onions were bathed in a sickening amount of grease . The potatoes were extremely smooth and tasted incredible and the gravy was excellent and so was there side vegetables. Overall , I would strongly recommend not going to this Restraunt as there chefs lack of care ruins the food . Also due to the bar being connected to the Restraunt section there is a lot of drunken individuals who behave poorly in the dining section.

11/10/2025: We stayed with a group of ten. Nice staff, but generally a very disappointing experience. Our bathroom had a small, deep, narrow tub (with no helpfully-placed grab bar, and I found it impossible to get out of on my own (I’m a small, de 82-yr-old man, and the strain of attempting to exit the bath literally sent me to the local hospital e.r. for the night.). There is no public transportation into Galway City, and with heavy traffic, it took 1-hour very expensive cab rides to get there from Galway. In one room, the soap/shampoo dispenser was located so that it could not be accessed from the tub and shower. The restaurant’s wait staff and the hotel’s front-desk staff included people spoke virtually no English, making ordering food and checking in very difficult. The location is suburban and semi-industrial and offers no pleasant walks or scenery. The morning we checked out, a Saturday, to catch a flight in Dublin, breakfast didn’t open until 8:30, so we couldn’t eat despite our having paid for breakfast as part of the room cost. There were no refrigerators in the rooms. In one room, no cold water and in another the cold water didn’t turn on. Definitely not recommended for touring groups.
