The best restaurants in Donegal

14/06/2026: Difficult to rate accurately. We only stayed one night. However, there's a clear need for renovation. On the way through the dark hallway to our first room, I remarked to my wife that it looked more like a two-star hotel. And that's exactly how the room felt. After an upgrade, we got a room with a sea view in a renovated section. Breakfast was okay. I'd advise against booking the brightly colored rooms. It was still okay for one night, but lacked a welcoming atmosphere.

13/06/2026: Stayed for 4 nights last week and we were very happy. The manager on the day we arrived was amazing, she went out of her way to be welcoming, friendly and gave fantastic recommendations on places to visit and see. So too Sandra on reception. Our room was very comfortable and the morning staff cleaning and re stocking rooms were great and very friendly with a big hello and good morning. Breakfast was good with a good selection of food. Morning breakfast staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The location is excellent.

07/05/2026: The raspberry and almond tart was divine! As was my cappuccino. Everything in the case was so beautiful, it was hard to decide on what to buy. 😍 The woman was very helpful and friendly. It was a wonderful first stop to start my day off right. Thank you!

07/07/2026: Staff could use more initiative i.e. If a guest has a query regarding spa they could ring them rather than suggesting the guest trek all the way down to ask their question. Room could have been cleaner. View amazing. Spa amazing.

20/05/2025: This was one of the best hotels on our tour, and we had great ones. The rooms were cozy and elegant. We were treated like royalty and self service laundry facilities were available. I wish we could have stayed a second night.

20/05/2025: It’s a beautiful place! You feel like a princess in that castle. The rooms are very spacious and lovely, and the bathroom floor is warm, so it’s super comfortable to walk around barefoot. The service from all the staff is excellent. And the massage we got at the spa was extraordinary!

01/07/2026: Very disappointed with the dog policy at Madden’s Bridge Bar & Restaurant. I arrived with my well-behaved dog and was told they do not allow dogs inside at all. The only option offered was sitting on public benches out the front on the street — in the rain. As a dog owner travelling in Ireland, this was incredibly unwelcoming. Ireland promotes itself as friendly and hospitable, but experiences like this make it feel quite the opposite for those travelling with pets. Plenty of other places manage to be dog-friendly without issue. Come on Ireland!

06/03/2026: The most beautiful fish I have tasted! Visited Dunfanaghy from Derry with my family. We had takeaway. The staff were just so friendly and polite. The cafe itself was lovely and warm on a beautiful but cold day, and it had a lovely warm atmosphere too. A great menu if you don't like fish, my son had chicken goujons and loved them but the fish was stunning. Thanks all at An Chistin x

29/06/2026: One of the best Indian restaurants in Ireland. Railway curry is excellent. Staff are brilliant.

27/06/2026: Came here for dinner and had a lovely meal! The staff was very friendly and checked in regularly during the meal. We got some pappadams (an extra one too as a surprise!) with some chutneys and sauces. They were all delightful and we kept some to have with our mains too. The eggplant bhaji was smooth and creamy, and the eggplant was soft and soaked in the flavours well. The sauce for the chicken pathia was umami and it reminded me of Chinese style stirfry sauce! Love the setup to keep the curries warm. The quantities were plenty and I think half portion would have been sufficient if you're not very hungry. The naan was splendid too - soft and crispy at the same time. I gave the food 4 rather than 5 stars because, having grown up with Indian food, I'm used to a different flavour profile. The menu is catered to the local palate, which is understandable as it makes Indian food accessible to a wider audience.
