24/05/2026: Hartes has been one of my favorite places to eat for a decade, but over the last year or two, the standards have noticeably slipped. During a recent visit for Sunday lunch, the service was lacking; no one came to check on our meal, and we had to ask for basic table settings like salt and pepper. The food itself was incredibly disappointing. The horseradish mentioned on the menu was missing entirely, and the dish lacked the warmth you'd expect, tasting as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The roast potatoes were easily the worst I’ve had—soggy and practically tasteless. To top it off, the portions were tiny despite the expensive price tag. Overall, the food has become mediocre. It completely lacks the flair and originality that made Hartes so special years ago.

22/05/2026: My wife and I wandered in here while in Kildate town. What a find. Food was outstanding, great menu (spoiled for choice), very reasonably priced. It was a Thursday, 5.30-6ish, and the place was packed by 7. Many Restaurant Association Awards on the wall as you walk in, I can see why. Great to find a place putting out that level of quality so near to where we live.

05/03/2026: My wife called to place a bulk order of desserts. We usually order from here on weekends for ourselves through delivery and really enjoy the desserts, so we wanted our friends to try them as well. However, when she called to check if bulk orders were accepted, the response from the person who answered was quite rude and full of attitude. They simply said they would not take bulk orders, but it was the way it was said that was disappointing. When my wife asked further, she was told to just refer to the menu, again in a very dismissive tone. This is not the best way to approach a customer. We like the desserts here, but experiences like this make us less likely to order again if the customer service does not improve.

06/06/2026: Ciaran was a great host for us, really good customer service! Nduja pizza was a major highlight, also 1€ lunch deals was great value, 1 full priced main and another for 1€ once you got a QR off their website

20/06/2026: Gorgeous coffee from typo in Leixlip. Staff are always very friendly and my doggies get a dog treat so they love walking to typo too

15/05/2026: Such a lovely experience, today I visited with a group of people with intellectual disabilities through work, the staff were amazing. Staff were so accommodating, patient and kind and made our group feel very welcome. Food was absolutely amazing as well . Thank you very much!

21/06/2026: Lovely cafe with a cozy atmosphere and excellent service. The coffee always delicious, best coconut cap ever! perfectly prepared, and the pastries were absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast, a coffee break, or catching up with friends. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great coffee and outstanding pastries!

24/06/2026: Loved the coffee here, it appears its run by a father and son team, great spot to grab a coffee or quick bite in Newbridge, and go for a stroll along side the Liffey river, will return for another coffee and grub for sure. Thanks

02/04/2026: Food is decent but they use wooden cutlery, which is unfortunate considering I was sitting in. The staff are helpful but forgot our drinks and weren’t customer-facing when we went to the till to pay.

26/03/2026: Food really not as good as it is hyped up to be. Service was not great either. Would not recommend for the price. They don't even come to the table to take your order but the website asks for a tip many times?!!?!!

30/06/2026: Delivery took over 1.5hrs and not even an apology. The food was not edible by this stage and went straight to the bin. Will never order again . Wasn’t even busy they said when I rang. Disgraceful

29/03/2026: What a splendid place! Ever since I was a girl after church we’d venture forth to the inn as a family and my father would carry me upon his shoulders! The owner is an outstanding gentleman and a silver fox at that. I’d love nothing more on a Sunday morning (The day of rest of course…) to relax with a fresh haddock and a book to ease into the next week. As a professional reviewer and journalist this is a must-go in the captivating experience of Athgarven!
