The best restaurants in Laois

25/05/2025: Had a visit(first) to this hotel on 24th May 2025. I want to talk about the finger food and Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point) (HACCP) ie food hygiene. 1.The tempature on delivery of food was below standard. 2.Reheating food or adding preciously cooked foods served 3.Quantity of cooking oil on presentation, around the plates 4.Under cooked cocktail sausages. I am concerned how a chef/cook can deliver food to customers in this condition if there is a HACCP standard in place, where was it on my visit.

25/05/2025: Good location cosy beds...Very expensive for 1 night and breakfast not included in price i paid..

14/12/2024: One star is too much for this seedy place with vulgar people on both sides of the bar. Unbearable music blasted at full volume and making life impossible for the neighbors.

28/04/2025: The staff were attentive and courteous, unfortunately a less than satisfactory experience in all other regards. The food was overcooked and bland, the wine (an adequate Alberiño) was ok - not worth €35. I was disappointed with what we received for €157 for two people. I have no problem paying that and even more if the meal is delicious and exciting and original. At the end of the meal I asked for an espresso (which is pretty basic) to be told that the machine was already cleaned and here's your bill...it was 10.00pm. Disappointing. Would not recommend this restaurant as it is too expensive for the quality of the food.

25/04/2025: Lovely cafe, the staff were so charming and helpful. Had a veggie option that was super delish "Nellys Cajun veggie sambo" would defo recommend this place.

05/10/2024: Going to the snack shack for years and love it in there. The staff are brilliant always greeting you with a smile and a chat. It's worth stopping in and the sandwich box's you can get are just perfect and tasty. Highly recommended

25/04/2025: Best Supervalu in Portlaoise. Great butchers and bakery , wide range of goods and very friendly staff 👌Always a pleasant experience shopping here .

26/04/2025: Eye-catching café on the main street, beautifully decorated with taste and style. With high expectations, I ordered their signature Hummingbird Cake. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. This cake is typically known for its exceptional moistness, light texture, and unique flavor—thanks to pineapple, banana, pecans, and a delicate cream. However, the slice I had bore little resemblance to that standard. It tasted more like banana bread, and the icing was just a thick slab of wet icing sugar, lacking any finesse. My 3-star rating is meant as encouragement for Hummingbird Café to revisit their recipe and bring it up to the level their beautiful café deserves. A little advice at the end... the side gate, like an alcove with tables, is just begging for the same atmosphere as the interior of the café.

19/02/2025: Blaw is the way to go. Coffee excellent. Got a telling off for ordering food and coffee off the same person. Fix that and excellent.

18/04/2025: Rocky’s garlic cheese chips would be what I’d ask for my last meal. 10/10 always.
