The Hungry Monkey

Dublin
21/12/2025: Great food and great staff! Always a busy but happy atmosphere! Can't beat the quality of their breakfast rolls, for taste or price! Would always reccomend
20/12/2025: This was our first visit to The Hungry Monkey for breakfast, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The café itself is quite small, with tables placed very close together, and it was extremely busy due to nearby offices. We were shown to a table by a staff member and ordered two breakfasts and two coffees. The coffees arrived quickly, but our food took almost 30 minutes. Meanwhile, customers seated around us were served, finished, and left, while our order still hadn’t arrived. What made the situation worse was the way it was handled. A woman who appeared to be the owner or manager approached us, initially apologising for the wait. We politely said it was fine. However, she then explained that she needed our table because other customers had reservations and repeatedly reminded us that she needed the table back. The delay was clearly not our choice, and it felt as though our order had been overlooked. Being asked multiple times — albeit with a smile — to hurry up or give up the table made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. If reservations were such an issue, we would have understood being told at the door, rather than being seated and then pressured. The food itself was very average and certainly not worth the overall experience. Unfortunately, the service and attitude overshadowed everything else. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it.

Zizzi - Dundrum, menu

Dublin
05/02/2026: My favourite restaurant, good food, place, music, service. Love
03/02/2026: Walking into Zizzi, I was immediately struck by the bright, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. The space itself exudes a welcoming charm that sets the stage for what should be a memorable dining experience. However, my first impression was slightly dampened by the absence of any host at the entrance, leaving me waiting approximately a minute before a staff member arrived to greet me. The service throughout my visit presented an interesting study in contrasts. On one hand, I genuinely appreciated the server's thoughtful explanation of the pizza size options, the rustica and classica, demonstrating a welcome attention to customer preferences. The pacing of the meal was reasonable, with only a slight delay between courses that didn't warrant concern. However, several aspects revealed opportunities for improvement. The kitchen mishap with my calzone order was particularly noteworthy. I had specifically requested no mushrooms (a preference rather than an allergy), yet the dish arrived prepared with them. While the server handled the situation professionally with a fair apology and offered to remake the dish, I chose to accept it as-is rather than extend my wait time. This incident highlighted a concerning gap in kitchen-to-table communication that shouldn't occur in a quality establishment. Additionally, when settling the bill, I was surprised that the staff member made no mention of either the Speedy payment option or the Zillionare loyalty programme. These are valuable customer touchpoints that shouldn't be overlooked. The lack of proactive table maintenance, removing dirty plates and keeping the dining area tidy, further suggested that service standards could benefit from more consistent attention. I also found it somewhat off-putting to observe staff members returning from their breaks carrying food bags from nearby establishments. While understandable from a personal perspective, it inadvertently serves as negative advertising for Zizzi's own offerings. The Fonduta Board starter proved to be the unexpected star of my meal. Generously portioned for sharing (easily suitable for more than two people), the fonduta itself was excellent, complemented beautifully by the aubergine fritti. However, the calamari disappointed with their chewy texture and lack of flavour. The garlic bombe was pleasant, though I would have welcomed a more pronounced garlic punch. Of the two bread varieties served, one was unfortunately too chewy, detracting from the overall experience. The Margherita Classica pizza fell disappointingly short of expectations. The dough was excessively thin and dry—more reminiscent of a flatbread than a proper pizza. While the mozzarella was acceptable, it lacked the quality that would inspire a return visit. This was particularly underwhelming given Zizzi's reputation for Italian cuisine. The calzone presented a more interesting proposition. The meat combination was well-balanced and enjoyable, though considerably less spicy than the menu description suggested. The filling was pleasant overall, though the crust appeared rather oily, admittedly a matter of personal preference. My experience at Zizzi's can best be described as fair, with clear potential that hasn't quite been realized. The restaurant's inviting ambiance creates the right foundation, but inconsistent execution in both kitchen accuracy and service attentiveness prevents it from achieving excellence. The food quality varied significantly, from the genuinely enjoyable Fonduta Board to the disappointing pizza offerings, leaving me without the compelling reason to make Zizzi's a priority for my next Italian dining experience. For Zizzi's to truly shine, greater emphasis on order accuracy, staff training on customer engagement programmes, and most critically, improvements to their pizza preparation would transform an average visit into something memorable. The bones of a great restaurant are there; they simply need more consistent care and attention to detail.

The Mercantile

Dublin
18/01/2026: This hotel was an absolute DREAM. Perfect location. Very clean. Incredible staff. We will be back! *there will be street noise - it’s part of the experience!*
17/01/2026: This was the best hotel experience I've ever had. Our flight got in late (1am) and apparently most parking garages close at midnight. So where do you park? Not the street in Dublin 😂 After driving in vain for over an hour, I called the hotel and asked for advice. Robert answered and gave very clear directions on which car parks were open and told us to bring our luggage to the hotel so when we walked back from the car park we wouldnt have to haul it. We got to the front of the hotel and he was already outside with another gentleman (wish I knew his name) and they took our luggage in. Robert made sure my Google maps were set to the correct location. We found the car park and Robert was standing there! Thank God because we had to ring an attendant to open the gate and Robert knew what he was doing. We drove in and parked and when we came out to head to the hotel, Robert was waiting there to walk us back to the hotel. I couldnt believe. As two women traveling I felt welcomed and safe. What a beautiful experience. Well done!

Old Spot

Dublin
24/01/2026: Been here a few times but the last time this week was really disappointing. Fish and chips ordered. The fish batter was over seasoned (horribly so) and we got served soggy chips. Pretty hard to understand the latter give the place wasn't that busy on a Thursday for lunch. Been before and the standards were much higher.
19/01/2026: I do this with a heavy heart. Venue is lovely. Staff are pleasant and professional. Superb cocktail (Bee's wobbly knees) and the the food in general was excellent. I had the battered fish and chips. The fish was flakey, the batter crispy and served at an Ideal temperature. I just don't know what happened with the seasoning? It was if someone had dropped a salt cellar into the batter. Never in my life had a meal so salty. I'm assuming it was a mistake and would try again 🤷‍♂️

Domino's Pizza

Dublin
03/01/2026: On this Domino`s i had the worse experience i've ever had with deliveries. I order a deal of 1 Pizza, 2 sides and a desert. The delivery guy rang me telling me that he was close, but actually he had no idea of where he was. My address was on the order and he couldn't get to the right place and after 10 minutes of me trying to figure out where he was he started to get annoyed and shouting to me at the phone. He said things like "This is the last chance to give me your right address", when again, my address was attached on the order all the time. Just this itself is horrible, but believe or not it got worse. After 15 minutes on the phone with the driver he finally learned how to use google maps and when he got at my address only had the sides but DIDN'T HAVE MY PIZZA. I rang the restaurant to let them know and remake and the manager said that they were not going to make my pizza because the kitchen was just done. He said i would get my refund back in a couple of days, but i also didn't. Everything that the business could do badly they did it. Congratulations everyone.
15/11/2025: Accepted my order and then canceled it 25 minutes later, so not only do I not have food but they made sure to wait a long time. Thanks, Dominoes!
