05/05/2026: Walked in for dinner. Had the Cauliflower & Blue Cheese Soup (delicious. The blend of flavor was on point. You can barely taste the blue cheese) as a starter. Then we ordered the Chef’s Mejadra (an arabic inspired cuisine) and the Mild Goan Chicken Curry. Both were very tasty and plated wonderfully well. There’s no meat in the Mejadra dish, only rice with lentils and what tasted like Halloumi Cheese and a few broccoli, and the Curry is not spicy at all. Kudos to the chef(s)! The service was good as well. From the gentleman that met us at the door to the ones at the bar. Terribly, terribly wonderful and friendly people. Will definitely come back.

04/05/2026: Really tasty seafood chowder, and good vegetarian lunch option of Goats cheese parpadelle, was tasty but could have done with a bit more of that Goats cheese. Brown bread ice cream was delicious, and service was exceptional.

06/05/2026: This is definitely a place you should visit; a whole day isn't enough to properly see all the treasures in the park, forest, and abbey. Thank you for this experience.

06/05/2026: We saw the abby, church, and gardens. All very lovely. The entire complex is both beautiful and historical! A must see when visiting Galway!

10/06/2026: What a pleasant surprise this hotel was. Outstanding food (and I mean outstanding) beautifully stylish and comfortable bedroom (we had a sea view room). The helpfulness and friendliness , not to mention the competence, of all the staff was the best we have encountered in the last twelve months in three continents! Well done to all at the Doonmore hotel, to owners Andrew and Donna, what truly lovely genuine hosts you were. Wishing you all many more years of success.

10/06/2026: this gem of a place we continue to return to. Super location, staff, facilities... just all in all good all round. Cannot recommend highly enough.... and it was raining the last time we were there but still wonderful. The team are so warm and welcoming, just like the island.

19/05/2026: Our experience was fantastic. Sarah looked after us and made our evening a really lovely one. The service was quick, the atmosphere felt relaxing yet elevated, and the portions were very generous. The food was delicious, and the chef was incredibly accommodating, kindly adjusting the seafood linguine for me by adding more prawns instead of clams. It was such a thoughtful touch. Dining here feels like being transported to a chic restaurant experience right in Gort. Easily the best restaurant in town.

31/10/2025: Had dinner here recently, I would be a semi regular at this spot. Not sure if it’s been leased out since the last time I was there, as I didn’t see any of the old familiar faces working on the night I was there. What has changed is the introduction of a 10% service charge, which is extremely disappointing to see, none of my other usual spots in Clifden or its surrounding areas have this, so not sure why it’s been introduced here. I wasn’t aware of this until I was paying the bill, it might be on the menu, I’m not sure, but it definitely didn’t apply last time I visited. Probably going to give it a miss for a while, might pop back when the VAT rate gets reduced, see if the service charge still applies. If it does, I’ll be trying somewhere else up the street!

16/04/2026: I’ll start by saying the waitress suggested the early bird special. It was 8 o’clock, wasn’t that early but she said they still offered it. At the end of the meal there was some confusion over what the early bird special included as we thought it was one of the listed starters, one of the listed entrees, and any of the menu desserts. So that is what we ordered and we were never questioned by the waitress for clarification even after pointing to the special page. But if you read the menu closely, it’s either a starter and an entrée or an entrée and a dessert. Small print on the top of the menu and they’re all listed on the same page on the menu leads one to thinking there’s actually a special price. The reality is there is no special price. The food was good. The mussels were local and good with a large quantity. The seafood chowder was good, but a little thin. The soup of the day was potato and celery. Initially, I thought restaurant was good and a good value, but after the misunderstanding I was not as impressed.

18/05/2026: 'The Field Bar' The bar that was used in the making of the above film.A brilliant atmosphere. A very nice open fire thar added to the atmosphere. Memories of the film on the walls and a lot of information in relation to same. TV. Busy. Staff efficient and friendly. Great location. Leenane would be a popular area for walkers. A very nice craft shop close by to visit. Lots of things to do. Check it out.

13/05/2026: Great stop for a few drinks. Very local vibe. Nice to see the memorabilia from the iconic movie "the field", which was filmed in Leenane.

04/05/2026: As an American, it's odd to be told that you have use of a table for an hour. The food was typical pub fare, tasty and not fancy.

11/06/2026: Very disappointing experience. The food was overpriced, the portions were small and the chowder looked and tasted old. The leaves on the crab salad were also withered, old and tasteless. The wait staff were also slow to seat us, take our order and come over and help, on one occasion because they were too busy chatting. I have had nice meals here in the past but they've gone downhill.

09/06/2026: Outstanding place to eat. Food was wonderful and staff were first class. We will be returning.
