The best restaurants in Cork city council

28/12/2025: The evening started strong and the service was fantastic initially with the waiter being very polite and sharp. After our main course however, the staff seemed to forget we existed and they didn’t check in with us for over 30 minutes, leaving us to ask them to take our plates. Our drinks were also empty during the middle of our main course and again there were no offers of further drinks. When cleaning the table for desert, the little things like leavening a dirty knife further dampened the setting. Finally, to really make us feel special, when we paid and went to collect our jackets, no one offered to get them for us. Two staff members passed us and smiled but no one offered to retrieve our jackets, leaving us to find them ourselves. The service fully fell apart this evening and it was disappointing to say the least when we spend almost €200 for a party of two.

The reason I only gave you 3 stars is that everyone's time is valuable, and if you had indicated your working hours on Google Maps, I could have made other plans for that day.

17/01/2026: We had afternoon tea and it was absolutely gorgeous. We were celebrating two big birthdays and were really well looked after from start to finish. A big applause to Matt, who did a fantastic job and was on top of everything at all times. He even noticed us looking his way as he passed with drinks and immediately came over with the drinks menu, explained what he had just served in case we wanted the same, and confidently recommended his personal favourite. Amazing upsell, Matt! He also directed us straight to the bar afterwards, making the whole experience seamless. Outstanding service and a lovely celebration – highly recommended.

06/01/2026: I don’t usually leave reviews, but this pub really felt like it needed one. There were three of us dining. My boyfriend ordered the special of the day: thinly sliced beef that was unfortunately overcooked and tasted quite cheap, roast potatoes that were so soft they could easily have been mistaken for mash, and gravy that tasted like it came straight from granules you’d buy at Tesco. I didn’t end up paying for the special. My mother had the chowder. While the flavour was acceptable, the texture suggested it may have been thickened with flour, which wasn’t very pleasant. Unfortunately, the next day she became quite unwell and suffered from diarrhoea, which was very concerning. I ordered the shrimp with garlic toast, but the shrimp were overdone and the garlic bread had no real garlic flavour at all. I also had the BBQ pork belly, which was the only dish that genuinely made the meal worthwhile—it was well cooked and enjoyable. On a positive note, the atmosphere was nice and the waitress was friendly and attentive. I really hope a manager sees this review and considers making some significant changes, as this place has potential but the food quality needs serious improvement.

05/01/2026: We had an amazing lunch today. Food was one of the best we have experienced for long time in Cork. He had chicken burger, he was very impressed and as a chef he said without a doubt 9 out of 10 !!! I had goat cheese salad and gosh it kept me full for the rest of the day, ingredients were fresh, high quality, 9 out of 10!!! Desserts OMG, the crème brülèe and cheesecake, so delicious 😋 And extra points for presentation, touch of art!!! Staff were friendly and welcoming and place looks really outstanding, pure Irish pub vibe ❤️ We sure return 🤟

04/01/2026: Really nice place to grab a pint and they seem to have some kind of agreement with the local Japanese place, Miyazaki, so you can have your drink and bring the food in from just across the street. Service is excellent, particularly the dude with the beard (might be the manager), Beamish is really good and that’s coming from a Murphys guy. The best part though is the “no phones” rule. Place could be a bit cleaner but aside from that it’s great.

The bar has a welcoming, laid-back vibe that works just as well for casual dinners as it does for meeting friends for a few drinks. The staff is friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. The food is consistently good, with generous portions and classic bar-style options done right. Everything comes out fresh and flavorful, and it pairs perfectly with their drink selection. The bar menu offers a nice variety, whether you’re in the mood for beer, cocktails, or something simple and refreshing. Overall, South County is a dependable neighborhood bar with good food, good drinks, and a comfortable atmosphere. It’s an easy place to come back to again and again

22/12/2025: Came in here to get some Christmas dinner as its a nice old style pub . When the plate arrived the food looked well presented . But I discovered there was only one slice of ham underneath the turkey and at the bottom was lots of mashed potatoes in order to look as if your were getting a lot . I did mention it when I paid as no one came to my table during the meal .

15/12/2025: Beautiful rustic interior. A lot of sitting space when you consider the inside and outside. One of the best lattes I've ever had and very affordable. Came today to work for 1-2h and go for a walk around the Lough after. Absolutely gorgeous Monday evening.

18/12/2025: As always food was tasty and had soul,simple and just cooked on point. If your vegetarian your goosed!! Lovely service if a little disjointed at the end of our meal which is understandable with tables coming in and tables leaving but it's such a relaxing room and somewhere u can enjoy your meal in peace.its bloody hard to run a restaurant and for isaces to be doing it so long and successfully it's a credit to everyone involved..bravo 👏

24/11/2025: The acoustics are terrible - you leave with hives from the noise. But the food is good and the staff is great. So a very mixed experience.
