It was one September day, many years ago I left for university.... to be continued, thank you🔆 Ms. Mary Sisk, our kind hostess from Togher, welcomed me into her womb, bosom buddies. Hail the Mother of God. I was the sole Asian, and among the tenants, the sole male. My life flourished in dreams. I had the pick of the lot Karen, Hazel and, Michelle. Ms. Sisk had a sprawling two storey fantasy. I lived with a family in a house, that is. And, there were others(students, teachers), renting, too. The central applications office website opened vistas like not ever before. After bailing out from Denmark's spell check riddled international education, being a mature student, with no secondary education certification, was indeed a unique provision for budding aspirants, seen around the world. Little did I reckon a chance meeting with Bono (Dublin) himself, walks in the buff in Waterford and even a stint teaching Irish nursing students about life in Denmark(for pocket money)... My first ever year in university encompasses all this and, much more. Buckle up, dear readers... life beckons. ♥️ The first week had this relishing intro trip to the Muckross house and nearby lake(lough). My heart fell for Fiona, Gemma and, a third butterfly. On the flip side, some five hearts intended to court me. 💕💕 Irish punters? I had no idea. This one I had to check out. God is kind

23/10/2025: Had such a great experience here today. Went in with my friend and we didn’t have much time & the waiter was THE BEST. We were only waiting 5 mins for a table and he served us immediately and got our coffee and food for us SUPER quick. He told us he was “determined that we make our lecture”. Great service! We meant to ask his name but we forgot! Great staff 👏

27/02/2026: Me and my partner recently got the meal deal that consisted of 2 mains with free drinks and we can not recommend this place more. The staff and atmosphere was lovely. We will most certainly be back.

22/12/2025: Was there last night for a birthday meal in the booth. gave 5 stars for the room but only used the restaurant. Have stayed in the hotel before so I know it’s great. The Mabel Crawford Bistro is beautiful, fantastic food and even better staff. 10/10 can’t wait to go back

04/03/2026: Edit: Since posting this, Kristina, one of the managers, kindly rang me to apologise for the experience. She explained they were extremely busy that day and very generously offered to process the gift card over the phone. She was genuinely lovely to deal with and I really appreciated her taking the time to follow up! I rang today to purchase a gift card. On my first call, I was politely told to ring back later as no one was available to process it at the time, which was completely understandable. However, when I called back, the person who answered was very abrupt and dismissive. When I asked to purchase a gift card I got an abrupt no I was told I would need to come in to purchase a gift card and the call was ended immediately. What made this more frustrating is that the restaurant’s website states that gift cards can be purchased over the phone. If that’s no longer the case, it would be helpful to update the information online. The interaction felt unnecessarily unfriendly and left a disappointing impression, especially when I was simply trying to support the business.

05/01/2026: An iconic spot on the Irish craft map. Excellent craft beers and delicious pizzas, made with your choice of ingredients. Multiple screens showcasing sporting events. Flavor, quality, and passion. A must-visit when in Cork.

02/01/2026: A pub on Cork's original pub trail, brewing its own beer. Great atmosphere, cozy, and a very friendly waiter. He let us try two beers before deciding. The house beers were very good, especially the Rising Red. We ordered nachos with beef, and they were spectacular and reasonably priced.

19/10/2025: I know this place is called The Grumpy Baker but I didn’t realize that was referring to your experience. Absolutely never leave reviews but our experience was so ridiculous I had to say something. My friends and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Two of us had tea we had just grabbed from the market but the rest did not. We all ordered a ton of food and coffee. The place was only slightly busy and had plenty of tables open but they all had reserved signs on them. When we asked if we were staying, we mentioned the signs and were told that they only put reserved signs to literally deter people from sitting down because of how busy they get. Red flag number one. Secondly they charge you more for eating there as opposed to take away. Which is just weird. I don’t know if that’s common in Ireland but it certainly isn’t in the States. Red flag number two. When we told the girl we’d eat in, a different staff member mentioned we couldn’t stay with tea from somewhere else. Which we very easily agreed too and said that’s fine we’d take away. The blonde girl taking our order (which I’ve seen other reviews talking about how rude she was) then continued to bring it up after we calmly agreed to leave saying that it’s disrespectful to their business for us to have brought it in. Even after these comments, we completely understood and said it’s fine we’ll take away. We then proceeded to move over to wait for our food only to stand there watching at the very least 6 other people come and go with their food. Almost the entire place was cleared out and we still hadn’t received our order. At that point I was almost positive the blonde girl serving us was doing this on purpose because she walked past us several times and refused to look at us. It seemed that she was more interested in being on her phone and chatting to her coworkers than asking us why we were still waiting. After who only knows how long, a completely separate staff member who was incredibly kind asked us what we were missing. Once we told him our order, he got us out right away, which means that girl just didn’t get our order ready since we watched this employee put our order in the oven. It was so wild. All in all this was a horrible experience and the name of the business says it all. The food wasn’t bad but it definitely wasn’t good enough for us to ever deal with that again. For the rest of our trip, our group could not stop talking about how insane our experience there was. Will not recommend.
