The best restaurants in Donegal

21/08/2025: It's been almost two years (if not exactly two years!) since we visited Old Stone and my fiancée and I still talk about the waffles and bacon regularly. I hope we will be back in Ireland some time soon...

08/08/2025: Very impressed with this cute place good choice of a bite to eat/ drink. Staff very helpful. Eye catching place from outside . Nice and clean . Toilets spotless. Which is good to see . I would be amazed if health inspector had any issues . Perfect place. Well done .👍

06/08/2025: Five stars. 8 of us dined here for a 70th birthday party. The staff were very friendly and the food was very nice. One small flaw was the steak could have been seared better. But a lovely place to dine

03/08/2025: Genuinely the most incredible seafood dishes I’ve ever had, you NEED to try here. Jo is an absolute darling too, everything about this place was perfection, make sure you book in advance to get a table Definitely recommend any of their king prawn & hake dishes, as well as their elderflower fizz

08/08/2025: We've already eaten here twice. They have homemade food and vegetable soup every day, very good. The staff are very friendly. The prices are reasonable.

03/08/2025: Fantastic food and people very welcoming. Our family always stop for at least one dinner when staying in the area. Chicken casserole was awesome, fish and chips is always brilliant.

30/08/2025: Incredible meal from start to finish. Our waiter Seamus was a remarkable host and did not disappoint with his recommendations. The duck liver parfait was decadent and the fish rillette was refreshing. The pigeon breast was tender and the beef cheek was so rich in flavour. When it came to dessert, we had trouble choosing what to try but through Seamus’s recommendation, we had gone with the vanilla ice cream with brownie chunks and salted caramel along with the burnt basque cheesecake and were delighted by both.

20/08/2025: I had fish box yesterday 19th August and chips were nice but cod batter was undercooked and not nice so I was very disappointed as I travelled from Fermanagh to get a taste of your fish box. Sorry I won't be back

18/08/2025: Our first visit to Killybegs over the weekend and our first visit to the Killybegs Seafood Shack, we came across their FB page and the food looked amazing, so with idle time on our hands we travelled the 2hour drive for food. To be honest we were quite disappointed to say the least, we ordered two Haddock and chips and a small can of coke for a total price of €32.00, some might say that was an alright price but what we received did not reflect on the photos of the food that you served when you were trading on the street, the fish was excellent, but portion size was very very small, the chips were of poor quality and again portion size was very very small. Introduce larger portions of fish and proper home cooked chips, add another euro to both and you will be heading in the right direction, I don't mind paying for food, but somebody was taking the pi*s last Sunday. Finally, your location is perfect, although you could maybe have somebody clean down the tables before the next customer is seated, also, the courtyard, it had a lot of food on the ground amongst the weeds, perhaps this could be addressed, it would also be nice if staff could perhaps call around to the tables and see if all was ok with customers. Sorry for long and rambling rant, but after travelling a 4 hour round trip and end up disappointed I think I am entitled to it.

01/08/2025: After two weeks in Co. Donegal this was by far the best food we have had all holiday. It is never easy catering for a vegetarian a carnivore and a pescatarian at any restaurant but it was no problem here and each noted how outstanding the food was. This is a first in over 25 years of travelling together. That says a lot

06/08/2025: Nice pub style food. Had a kids menu with easy things for going kids to order. I had the club sandwich and it was really nice. Service was quick and friendly

28/07/2025: Advertised vegan options clearly on their Facebook, the vegan all-day breakfast was one tomato, two pieces of toast (one of them burnt), quarter of a tin of baked beans and some mushrooms. Paying the price for a main dish that is the size of a starter and you could make at home in 5 minutes for less than €5. No-one came to check if everything was okay with our meals and then we had to ask them to clear our plates after we had finished because they took so long. The atmosphere was nothing special, the music was just the radio playing the same overplayed songs as always.

12/07/2025: Un pub très accueillant, à l'ambiance décontractée et où on mange bien. La qualité de la cuisine est un peu irrégulière, parfois succulente - voir photo - parfois juste satisfaisante. Passé 20 heures peut s'avérer très bruyant.

08/08/2025: Went to find a dairy-free treat, and discovered a new artist. Sat upstairs and enjoyed beautiful art, tucking into delicious vegan chocolate mousse. Friendly staff. I hear the vegan black forest gâteau is to die for! Definitely plan on going back

07/08/2025: Excellent food and service. The seafood chowder is outstanding, it’s honestly a meal on its own. We also had a chicken club sandwich and always hungry 15 year old struggled to finish it.. The Parmesan fries are beautiful and the portions are huge.. The staff are friendly and helpful and professional.. In my opinion this is probably the best casual dining spot in Donegal town and its environs Also the coffee and cakes selection is not to be missed.

08/08/2025: Went there for the acclaimed seafood chowder. Had to wait for 25 minutes for it to be served to us. It was nice but lacked fish, lots of vegetables but not a single piece of salmon or haddock on my plate. A bit disappointed. Nice place, was very busy which I suppose is a nice thing.

07/08/2025: I never normally write reviews for restaurants but felt compelled to do so on this occasion. We went for a late meal and they squeezed us in with no reservation. The food was incredible! Clearly a very talented chef and team in the kitchen. Our meals were fresh, beautifully cooked and well seasoned, and our desserts were delicious too! We’ve been on holiday in Ireland for almost a week and, even though we’ve eaten really well, this was by far the best meal we’ve had so far. And the chef coming out to talk to us at the end of our meal to check if everything was OK was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend 🙂

07/09/2025: We enjoyed our meal at Biddy O’Barnes. Good food, cold drinks and friendly service. The lemon posset (dessert) was a big hit.
