The best restaurants in Mayo

27/09/2025: We had a wonderful family meal in Coveys. Special mention to Hussane, who was exceptional and looked after us well. Would highly recommend.

03/09/2025: Atmosphere and service of restaurant was very nice. The server was courteous and friendly. Reason for my 3 star rating is my ribeye steak was inedible, very tough, fatty, chewy. A far cry from the “marbling that melts into the meat resulting in a juicy steak” as advertised. I was expecting a fine cut of steak. Tried real hard to eat it, but after half the steak was so tough and chewy and having to take the meat out of my mouth, I gave up. The side dishes were all quite good and I enjoyed them very much. The peppercorn sauce was also very good…I dipped my chips in it since the steak wasn’t working out. My wife ordered the fillet and it was very good. She gave me a few bites and I wish I had ordered the fillet, not the ribeye. Perhaps it was just a bad cut that night, I don’t know as this was our first visit to Westport and Coveys. They did offer to cook me a new piece of meat, but at this point my wife was nearly done, so I declined.

14/12/2025: LOVE Krem! The most gorgeous ice cream, crepes, hot chocolate coffee.. Graham and the team are awesome- so friendly and just the best service. They’re doing limited seasonal hot chocolates at the moment and they are sensational

28/10/2025: We stumbled upon this yummy place while looking for a place to have coffee. Had wonderful food. And the staffs are lovely. Sat at the VIP seats 😂

29/11/2025: My daughter and I wanted a coffee and a bun and a little Christmas cheer so we ventured in to Curry"s cottage .So warm and cozy, and with the soft Christmas music playing in the background, it felt that I traveled back in time, visiting my Granny at Christmas. The atmosphere was so welcoming and the staff were so full of cheer. I would recommend you to visit Curry's over the Christmas period. It is just amazing.

25/02/2026: Food was delicious & staff where polite and attentive. However we was sat in candle light upstairs until another party arrived and they turned on the lights which made all the difference. Would recommend.

05/10/2025: Attentive and friendly service. The food was excellent, and one dish was even made vegetarian at our request. The atmosphere is lovely, and you feel at home. Update after another trip to Ireland: I ate there three times. Each time it was a highlight. The food is so incredibly delicious. The service was still excellent and friendly 👍

25/09/2025: Hiney's has always been a fantastic pub with great food and beverage and our recent visit was enjoyed by all. We arrived there at the end of a 65km walk in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation and we couldn't confirm a booking in advance as it seemed to be touch and go with how late we might arrive. Thankfully with some last minute running we made it before the kitchen closed. All super and had a lovely time with a well earned pint and some delicious food.

01/01/2026: Just had a delightful meal in the Sheebeen. Lovely food, nice atmosphere in a warm and pleasant bar. First class all round.

30/12/2025: We go here every year, this year it wasnt as good as previous times. Chicken has a 20 min wait - which is completely fine, but the potatoes served (gratin) were lukewarm at best. Streak came out cold, had to hand back, for nearly 40e a steak youd expect better. Didnt have dessert, didnt want to be disappointed further. Just on the reply - we actually had a booking for 8pm, we did come early approx 735ish and we told staff that we didnt mind waiting. We specifically booked the snugg area, which since we were early had to be setup. But again we told staff that we were early and didnt mind waiting. We were facilitated which we thanked the staff for.

19/06/2025: The pints are the creamiest I’ve ever tasted and the long hallways are decorated with history. Some really nice characters in there early doors. British lad named Nathan surely knows his away around the pool table, him and his pal Mark gave us a right licking!

16/12/2025: Very disappointed with hygiene standards Was in Café M in Castlebar recently. Food itself was fine, but the hygiene practices I observed were poor and hard to ignore. I watched food preparers carrying out multiple different tasks while wearing the same gloves throughout — including scratching and then continuing food prep — without changing gloves or washing hands. Gloves are only effective if they’re changed regularly; clean hands are far better than dirty gloves. I don’t blame the staff on the floor — this looks like a training and management issue rather than individuals not caring. However, food hygiene has to be taken seriously, as it directly affects customer safety. I hope management review their procedures and provide better training, as this is easily fixable but very important. Also the coffee had a slightly sour taste. This is common on a machine that needs a little TLC.

09/12/2025: Limited produce. They don't seem to restock the shelves too quickly. Wild Blueberry Conserve Jam has been out of stock for over a week now, and frozen corn for several weeks. Forget about the Custard filled Doughnuts. There's no Custard🤨 Too many times with unreplenished stock. Poor management.

02/11/2025: This is an eye opener in Eco and Agri Tourism as we witnessed how they harvest Peat land and how they contribute to the entire Eco system with dedicated hard work. We met Jim, son and daughter, Mr An Neantog and his loyal sheep dog Jane, but the co- owner Jim's wife Catherine was away in Shanghai whom an Eco/ Agri Tourism Award recipient. Had lunch, freshly baked scones and their own Irish Coffee with whiskey and cream served by wonderful, friendly staff with a smile on face always. How Mr An Neantog harvesting the peat was amazing with careful consideration of the future generations. His loyal sheep dog Jane is always by his side for the command. We were very fortunate with the weather to see how Jane was rounding up sheep and keep them on their toes for Jane's next reaction. This is a huge 1600-acre farm plus another over 5000-acre common land adjoining the farm. We respect their dedication towards our Nature and Eco Habitat.

10/10/2025: This was my favorite experience in Ireland. The farm was so warm & inviting. We enjoyed a wonderfully informative & entertaining sheep dog herding demonstration, got lots of pets in w/ the pups when they weren't working and enjoyed a delicious intimate dinner in a beautiful candle lit setting w/ live music. I would go out of my way to come back here again.
