The best restaurants in Mayo

12/10/2024: Needs serious management overall. Went for a quiet pint. Guinness zero served in same glasses as regular Guinness. Drinks were mixed up and no effort to resolve the issue. What's really disappointing is to have to deal with customers vaping with no effort to stop it Let me know when there is an effort to run a decent safe bar and I'll be back

05/10/2024: Driving through Balina and stopped in this little gem! We had the chowder and it was delicious! We went back a couple days later with a big crowd and they were accommodating and the chowder on the second time round did not disappoint!!

13/09/2024: I have been a customer of rouses many times over the years but I had really bad experience here tonight. I arrived here alone and was waiting for friends to arrive out in the back area when the bar lady came out and asked me “if I was ok” to which I replied I was and that I was waiting for friends to arrive to meet me. I probably had been here about 5 minutes at this point. I asked her if there was a problem and she basically said I cant just stay here like this (I am assuming without a drink?). I felt very unwelcome and promptly left. Look Im a 31 year old woman and this is not how I expect to be treated in a pub within 5 minutes of arriving just because I am alone. I have no idea what she thought I was doing but as soon as I walked outside I saw my friends had arrived and we walked down to the auld sibin (close to the bridge) instead and had a good evening. Would be really hesitant to recommend for anyone coming in alone in a similar circumstance.

20/09/2024: This is my third visit to Oxtail. I went with a family party of 4 for a birthday celebration. Thank you to the chef as we had the most amazing food. It was made with care and attention to detail. Each course complimented the last one. Each of us ordered differently and honestly every dish was delicious. It was a real treat and was perfect for us. Thank 😊 you to the servers who made a birthday candle on our desert. Well worth a visit. 👏💖 Frances B x

14/09/2024: Great experience. Went in for picnic bits and came away with delicious Galway Dunmore 'brie' and excellent selection of salami etc together with really good sour dough baguettes. Lovely service from the proprietor(?) who went the extra mile to prepare it for a meal without cutlery.

16/09/2024: Thank you Mary & Sal for the excellent service in the catering business, I have used the Lighthouse for serval occasions and have no hesitations in giving the highest compliments for the food, service and friendliness. I highly recommend their chicken curry, beef stroganoff, potato gratin and pasta dishes with meat balls and side salads.

03/09/2024: I got Mary & Lighthouse Catering to cater for a family reunion last year & also for my 50th birthday party last month where over 60 people were in attendance. From the moment I spoke with Mary she put me at ease. She was so professional & knows her business really well. From the set up in the house to the delicious food to the return of delph & crockery the next day, nothing was a problem. I received so many compliments on the food & every bit was eaten. 07/11/2024: We go everyone morning and there is always this one woman who is working so hard every single day but also not forgetting to be so friendly and have a conversation with us. We found out her name today which is Christina, and Christina deserves a pay rise 😂 this woman is running that whole coffee shack and is one of the loveliest women I’ve ever meet. She will never fail to ask us how are day is, crack jokes with us even though she is so busy, and I do believe when someone is busy and In a rush but is still able to have a conversation with us that shows a lot about the person. So THANK YOU CHRISTINA !!!
