The best restaurants in Cork

17/04/2025: Recent short getaway with my wife - Lake Lodge room was nice & grounds are beautiful, the restaurant however was a disappointment. With only 3 other couples dining the atmosphere was subdued and very quiet for a Friday evening, Sashimi starter was good - ordered beef cheek & duck for main course with an expensive Rioja to accompany. Rioja arrived stone cold & I enquired if they had one available nearer to room temperature - which apparently wasn't an option. Beef cheek was excellent, the duck however was a different story with 2 of the 3 pieces being inedible, in fact I couldn't cut them with my steak knife. I did bring this to the attention of waiting staff and told they would inform the chef. I heard nothing more about it so ate some potatoes & my wife shared her beef with me to stave off the hunger. We drank less than half the bottle of wine as weren't really enjoying it. I didn't make a fuss as was a special night my wife had planned & looked forward to but I did mention the duck & wine situation when paying the bill without any acknowledgment from the server. I am not criticising her as don't believe she had the authority to do anything but there didn't seem to be anyone senior on the floor & chef was nowhere to be seen. We retired to the bar but as it was empty & didn't have any Jack Daniels which I enjoy on special occasions, we reluctantly called it an early night... overall very disappointing and certainly wouldn't recommend or return - there are lots of very fine restaurants in West Cork which are better than this on all levels...

10/11/2024: A step back in time. For a quick second, I felt like we were intruding, but that notion was quickly dispelled by Frank and his regulars. Great place for a pint.

31/12/2024: Buena comida y personal amable, pero regularmente tengo problemas cuando llego a casa y compruebo el pedido. Esta vez, pedí 4 comidas (2 con chapuzones) , llegué a casa, le faltaba una porción de patatas fritas/patatas fritas y no hay chapuzones : / . . . las chapuzones sin chapuzones están simplemente mal : /

23/08/2023: Same as previous reviews. Got a fish and chips and a potato pie. Fish and chips were only and the portion of chips was VERY small. Potato pie was very tasty. Staff very friendly.

02/06/2025: Don’t be fooled by the fast food sign outside. This is neither fast nor food. We wasted an hour in this place- they served everyone before and after us, all sorts of complicated orders but couldn’t give us our food. We left insulted after the hour. And also the food we saw everyone else get looked very basic. Not proper chipper chips.

23/02/2025: Ni siquiera estoy seguro de que se podría llamar a esto un tbh chino, tenemos un satay de carne de res que estoy seguro de que la carne de res se utilizó para una cena de domingo la semana pasada y la salsa era absolutamente insípida. Los chips de sal y chile se dejaron caer en un charco, estoy seguro de que cuando el conductor estaba llegando a la puerta. La ciudad de Skibbereen no debe tener un gato o perro en el lugar porque este lugar no está utilizando carne apropiada. Lo mejor fueron las 2 latas de Coca-Cola!

18/07/2024: The coffee at this cafe was lovely, and it is open on a Monday morning unlike many other places in Skibbereen. We also enjoyed the almond croissant!

06/06/2024: Great service! The woman were friendly and knowledgeable of the the food that was prepared in house. I had seconds on the cucumber salad, and 1 serving of the smoked salmon plate. The Mrs had 1 of the sandwiches - loved it. I highly recommend stopping in!
