21/08/2025: WE VISITED THE WHITE HORSES RESTAURANT IN ARDMORE RECENTLY FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION AND WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH OUR EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH. THE STAFF WERE VERY CURT AND DISMISSIVE TO US AND OTHER CUSTOMERS CAME TO OUR TABLE ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS WHILE WE WERE EATING AND MOVED CUTLERY AND GLASSES. NOT AN "EXCUSE ME" OR A WORD OF APOLOGY. THIS HAPPENED ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS QUITE RUDE REALLY. WE HAD A WAY OVER PRICED MEAL AND ON PAYMENT AS WE WERE LEAVING NOT" A DID YOU ENJOY YOUR MEAL " OR A "THANK YOU".¹ RUDE AND CURT. WE WILL NEVER RETURN HERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY. A VERY BAD AND EXPENSIVE MISTAKE.

18/06/2025: Fantastic experience - we booked a family for a christening 20 people and Khan looked after us, we needed for nothing and the food was superb. 10/10

11/06/2025: I took my father here this evening - to the Terrace - and had a great time. We had tried to book a window seat, but upon arrival there were none available. The wonderful front of house said he would do everything to help us. I had told him it was an early father's day dinner for my dad. We were seated in a non window seat initially, but within 15 minutes, due to a no show, he moved us to a 4-top, but made it for just the two of us. My dad had the Dublin Bay Prawn Scampi, and loved every second of it (his appetite can be off, so it was brilliant to see!). I ordered the burger (without pickles), but it arrived with pickles which put me off a little. I removed them from the plate and one of the hostesses asked if everything was OK (truly I didn't really enjoy the burger..too much sauce and the pickle residue was still lingering on the burger) and I just told her it's lovely but I asked for no pickles (I didn't want to ask for a fresh order bc it seemed ridiculous!). She came back later in the meal to say the desserts were going to be on the house - I tried to protest and say it's not a problem, but when the bill came, they weren't there. As a result I left a very generous tip for the servers. The desserts were delicious. Dad had the sticky toffee pudding and I had the meringue roulade (very sweet, but I had room after not finishing my burger). All in all the service was hit and miss (we were neglected a bit at the beginning in favour of the bigger, more demanding tables, and I had asked for a sauce top up which came after we had finished - but I understand they were under pressure), but the managers really stepped up and made it a special night. My dad, most importantly, has been waxing lyrical about it since. They also had a good selection of non-alcoholic wines for him, which was really refreshing. I would definitely go back again - and order the scampi!! Top top marks to the fronts of house...you made it a lovely evening.

27/07/2025: Below average experience. The food is ok. Portion size is absolutely terrible. Been here a few times but the last time was the final straw. Came here one day when it was busy, was just popping in with 3 friends to get a pint and be ok our way. There was a few people looking for seats so I approached the bar and asked the guy (mid 40’s?) about just sitting at the bar for a pint and he was absolutely foul mannered. He said “why don’t you join the queue like everyone else trying to get a table in here” I love locally and this bar/restaurant is quite close to me, many occasions I choose to go elsewhere for food and drinks. In this day and age that behaviour is unacceptable That episode, along with the overpriced menu and small food portion sizes and that barman’s behaviour ultimately made my decision on the palace. Couple weeks later “the shack” came up in conversation with different friends suggesting places to eat; I shut it down. Funnily enough one of the people in the group said that they ordered food weeks earlier and the same guy was intimidating to her because she didn’t eat her food and was pushing for answers, she was hungover and explained nothing was wrong with it. Won’t be returning, and I’ll be telling others the same story.

18/07/2025: Great atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks, and friendly personable service. Wife and I visited Athlone from the UK and were so glad we came here for lunch, highly recommend.

20/08/2025: Not impressed really, it's OK here. The food is well presented but fairly bland, dressed with sauces to give it some flavour. This really is a restaurant for older people who stay in the hotel. It tastes like mostly frozen products and at hotel prices. Not for me I'm afraid. Not a bad place, just not good enough to return.

31/05/2025: Disappointing! The best thing about the restaurant is the interior. We had mussels in white wine sauce twice, and until today I couldn't believe it was possible to make them so badly. The mussels were dry, lukewarm, and came in a mere dollop of sauce. They tasted as if they had been cooked for a while beforehand and then simply added to the plate with the sauce. There was more than enough garlic baguette, but for €18.50, there should have been a few more mussels (with some flavor!). The water with fresh lemon served for washing hands was still warmer than the mussels, even after we had finished eating. Unfortunately, a disappointment with a dish that could have been prepared so easily.

26/07/2025: If this Chinese takeaway was any better, I’d propose to it. Every single dish is very good, crispy, flavorful, and made with so much care. Myself and my wife were here for holiday staying in the Fitz caravan park. I have to say, the bad reviews of this place here on google is so fake. Otherwise there has been huge improvement because i couldnt recommend this place enough. The crispy chilli beef absolutely beautiful with a perfect balanced between sweet, spicy, and crunchy. The salt and chilli chips are so addictive. Portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the owner and counter girls are such genuine beautiful people always chatty and friendly and carry a smile that could cure depression. The food arrives piping hot, even when delivered, and every bite tastes like it was made fresh because it was. If you haven’t tried this place yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It’s not just the best Chinese takeaway in town it’s the kind of place that ruins all other takeaways for you. 10/10, no notes, just pure deliciousness. 🥢🔥

09/07/2025: Really nice pub, good look and feel about the place. Friendly helpful staff and the beer is really good, great pint when in the area.

24/05/2025: Plenty of friendly staff in a busy eatery. Hot food ought to be on a hot plate, my chips were cold and my hamburger overdone and the dearest price I have ever paid for a burger in Europe. Onions rings lovely. But overall impression, not interested, just dish it out. Had I been on my own I would have walked out.

22/06/2025: We had the 8 course tasting menu .one vegan one regular both first class . Fantastic food great service. Treat yourself

16/06/2025: I ordered chicken wings as am gluten free were not cooked enough. Not many options available. Very disappointing experience.

15/06/2025: Called here for breakfast seated straight away by friendly young lad. Ordered 2 breakfasts 2 coffee that's all we got. Waited almost an hour got fed up paid for our coffee and left. So a full hour wasted really. I'd avoid at all costs.

07/05/2025: Had a great lunch at Sullivan’s hotel. It was superb and the service from the staff was exceptional. Highly recommend this place off the main highway.

03/05/2025: This is the most incredible find! Wonderful food, great value, incredible service and amazing staff. Top it off with an atmosphere of home from home where everyone is treated like family. We were lucky to find this venue so please please do not miss it, it's worth stopping in for real home cooked food and a heart warming chat with the owner and staff. Highly recommend!
