16/03/2025: Overnight stay while visiting the distillery which is a short walk into town. The bar and room were super clean and the furnishings upstairs made me feel like I was back at my Granny's house, which is good!

07/01/2025: Stayed here twice this year. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Showers had great water pressure. Anne and Brendan were great hosts. The bar downstairs is great. They serve a good pint. This is a fine location to walk into Midleton for great food. A nice walk to the distillery as well. We will be back again.

30/04/2025: Nice pub, friendly staff and amazing location. One of the best option in town when it’s sunny and you wanna enjoy a pint or lunch. Highly recommend

28/02/2025: I was refused a "last call" drink and told by the female bar worker that I had already had a drink on the table. Which was true, I had a half finished pint which I bought before closing time. My friends got served and after that, and i finished my drink and left. The bar worker in question will probably not remember me, as that is the kind of quiet person I am, but I will remember the embarrassment caused to me and will never inter that bar again.

19/05/2025: I genuinely regret leaving a negative review, especially as I had high hopes for this restaurant. I was excited to see what it would bring as a continuation of the much-loved Old Couch Café. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. First, I think it's important to point out something I find deeply unfair and misleading: the restaurant is using the same Instagram page and Google rating as its predecessor. This creates the impression that you're booking a table at a well-reviewed, established spot, when in reality, it's a completely different operation with very different standards. Frankly, it feels deceptive. The atmosphere was passable, but the character of the space seemed stripped away—literally. The walls were bare, and overall, the venue lacked warmth or personality. The lighting was extremely low, and unlike other tables, ours didn’t even have a suspension light. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely noticeable. From the start, the mise en place was inconsistent. We were three guests, yet each place setting was different. The wine list lacked any mention of harvesting years, which made it hard to justify the premium pricing. I ordered a rosé and had to request an ice bucket—it wasn’t offered. Bread and butter were brought to the table, but no bread plates were provided, which felt like a basic oversight. Service was, unfortunately, not great either. It felt rushed and inattentive. That said, I do want to acknowledge our server—a very young, kind woman who was clearly doing her best while working the entire floor alone. I don’t blame her at all. This was clearly a management failure, likely due to lack of proper training and staffing. I could have overlooked some of these issues if the food had been great. Sadly, it wasn’t. The "bread" offering was four dense, muffin-like lumps, supposedly Guinness bread—unpleasant and poorly executed. We ordered from a la carte menu, three different starters, mains, and desserts, and only one dish out of nine was actually good. The rest lacked seasoning and flavor. Particularly disappointing were the melloso rice, which was undercooked to the point of being raw (not al dente—actually raw), and the pork belly, which was so tough it was hard to cut, let alone eat. The dessert baklava was rock-hard, almost like a brick, and oddly enough, the accompanying ice cream had a fishy taste—hope not cross-contamination? We all shared our dishes and agreed: this wasn’t a matter of personal preference—it was objectively poor execution. We gave our feedback and returned most of the dishes barely touched. When a restaurant markets itself as fine dining and charges accordingly, expectations naturally rise. But this felt more like an overpriced misstep wrapped in a misleading package. I don’t enjoy writing harsh reviews, but transparency and quality matter—and this place missed the mark on both.

12/05/2025: We had a lovely time celebrating an engagement. Lovely food and staff. We were a huge group and they were absolutely brilliant.

27/04/2025: Absolutely amazing food. Restaurant quality food at bar food prices. I had the sirloin steak, hubby had the ribs. Both were the best we have had in a LONG time. Don't eat in your hotel, make a little trip to this gem of an establishment. Great craic, fantastic eclectic music, and really lovely staff will make you glad you took the time to visit.

24/03/2025: I just recently had a Christening in the function room at the Grasshopper. I cannot speak highly enough of the place. Martin and the team were amazing to deal with and all the staff were exceptional on the day making sure everything ran smoothly. There is a super friendly atmosphere there in general. The food was fresh and delicious and the space was fantastic for an event. Everyone commented on the food and the professionalism of the staff. I would highly recommend The Grasshopper and will most definitely book my events there in the future. Thank you to the team at the Grasshopper for making our day so special and going above and beyond for us.

14/05/2025: First meal back in my favourite restaurant after lockdown…..AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT- except to say mint sauce would’ve been nice to go with my lamb. In its absence I had gravy………I had to rein myself in, to stop myself from licking the pattern from the plate… already looking forward to my next visit… well done Graduate. Update: visited last Thursday. Food was fabulous. Ham and cheese omelette and fries. The toilets though are still disgusting, AND cold water in the wash hand basin, and cold hand dryer. I’ve seen nicer public loos.

26/04/2025: Have eaten here a couple of times with my wife and kids. Was impressed both times. The pub is spotless, service is great and the food is lovely. Family friendly during the day and a good pint of Guinness. The first time we visited the barman turned away a big bus of lads on a stag... I took this as a good sign!

03/01/2025: I order 2 beers, I go out to the smoking area, I order again and the owner tells me I guess it's because I can't come in with my pants😅, I honestly don't know what was wrong with him. Do what you want with your business, but if I can't come in, don't let me order 2 beers, totally ridiculous, when I'm leaving he tells me if he was out, I tell him it's okay, I'm leaving, I'm a gentleman I don't argue, it will be in pubs in Cork where I must say that in the rest they have treated me wonderfully, I am a generous customer and curiously my pants were correct😅

14/04/2025: My favorite spot in Cork. The atmosphere of this place is unmatched, and they have the best staff around. I always come here for my football matches, they always try to put them on for me even though they're international matches. Food is amazing- especially the dadinhos!! They also have corona on tap which I've yet to find at any other Cork bar. Have a great pub quiz and music bingo hosted here too. It's really the place to be.

12/03/2025: I had the sweet potato soup along with cheese cake, and it was very nice. I didn’t use the restroom, but the dining area was clean. I dined indoors, but the outdoor seating seemed inviting, as well.

28/03/2025: A really friendly and welcoming place. We are regular visitors with two kids in tow. Food is tasty, especially the quiche and also very good coffee. Dog friendly. Cosy setting a definite visit when in Callan 🐶☕️🫖

06/01/2025: Stopped in during recent snowstorm and was received to see it open. Great food at reasonable prices!
