19/07/2025: After reading such conflicting reviews, who are you supposed to believe? So I decided to try Whartons and make my own decision. Well, I’m sorry to say that the negative reviews are closer to the truth. Expensive for takeaway food: check. Food quality poor: check. Unfriendly staff: check. An unsmiling lady brusquely took my order and then another woman told me off for going inside with my umbrella to wait. Amazing! I’m an adult and I don’t appreciate being spoken to like that. I shan’t return.

13/07/2025: Firstly: my pet hate - cash only. Why? Who only takes cash in 2025? For what reason? Secondly: expensive. Restaurant prices for take away food. Thirdly: rude, unfriendly service. Do you hate tourists? Sorry we are not locals from Bantry. The cod was fresh but the batter was greasy. The chips were fine. For such high prices, some service, and a smile, would be appreciated. Resting on the laurels of lack of competition …. not a pleasurable experience.

10/06/2025: I dined at Amigos and had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The prices are very reasonable, making it a great value. They are open until midnight or 1 AM, which is perfect for late-night cravings. Additionally, they offer delivery services. Highly recommend this place in Formoy!

06/07/2025: We had an absolute blast at JD’s Pub in Youghal! The music was fantastic, with a lively mix of classic rock and country from a singer that had everyone on their feet. The atmosphere was electric—busy but welcoming, with friendly locals and staff creating a real sense of craic. The pub’s spacious interior and cozy beer garden add to the vibe, and the message “There are no strangers here, just friends you haven’t met… Brendan Behan” truly reflects the warm, inclusive spirit where everybody feels like friends. Great drinks selection at reasonable prices, too. Highly recommend JD’s for good tunes and a vibrant, fun atmosphere!

05/05/2025: Disappointing interaction with management We visited with a group of friends and really enjoyed the atmosphere—bar staff were friendly and the live singer was a lovely touch. However, our experience was soured by an uncomfortable interaction with a member of the management team. While some of our group were dancing, two of us stayed at the table. A manager approached and told us we couldn’t take up a full table if the venue was busy. We were understanding and said we’d move our belongings to make space for others. What felt inappropriate was the follow-up comment implying we weren’t ordering enough drinks. I pointed to a full glass of wine infront of my friend and she laughed and said is that between the two of you. The tone felt unnecessarily harsh and made us feel unwelcome. Sadly, we chose to leave shortly after. It’s unfortunate, as the rest of the evening had been enjoyable up until that point.

03/12/2024: The woman who runs Hudson's now is unfriendly, rude, and can be quite unpleasant sometimes. The prices are high, it is hard to find things, and in my experience they nearly always round the price up to the nearest 10¢, never down. I suggest instead Organico in Bantry or Goodness Foods in Skibbereen, both of which have pleasant staff and which I can recommend. UPDATE December 2024: It now has a new owner so is worth checking out again! I will report here once I have any more info.
