18/07/2025: Family of 4 adults . 2 had fish and chips both really disappointed. We have been several times for food and always good. Spoke to the waiter who said he would tell the chef. Really disappointed

20/06/2025: Good afternoon, Last Saturday we made our first visit to this restaurant since 2017, prior to which we had hosted many of our family’s special occasions and often stayed overnight. Every one of those occasions was impeccable and we have many happy memories of birthdays and anniversaries celebrated there.....and sad memories too of after funeral refreshments for both my wife's parents. I brought my daughter for what was intended to be a special outing for her as she seldom goes out anywhere due to serious health issues. We had chicken wings which were excellent but after that everything went downhill rapidly. My daughter chose a pasta dish but she could only eat half as it was at best mediocre. I chose roast beef and stated categorically that I did not want gravy poured over my meal and I asked could the gravy be served in a small bowl on the side. The young girl was very pleasant and helpful; she understood my request and said yes, that’s fine, absolutely no problem. We didn’t see her again after that. When another person brought the meal to the table it was absolutely swimming in gravy. I said I had requested the meal to be served without gravy, with the gravy to be served on the side. He took it away and changed it. It really appeared that I was served the dregs remaining from lunchtime and although it was towards late afternoon, that is not an excuse for me receiving stale carrots and mashed potatoes that had very obviously been kept warm in a Bain-Marie for a number of hours. The cabbage apparently had all gone so I got none. The beef was not remotely succulent and was as tough as leather but I persevered in struggling through it until a fly (there were many flies in the area where we’d been seated) came and sat on the beef. At that point I gave up and went to get some tissues to wrap the beef up to bring home to our cat. I was totally put off. As a result we decided to skip dessert. One would have expected the restaurant to have take steps in the warm weather to deal with the problem of flies in a dining area. The only part of the main course that I was able to enjoy was the roast potatoes which I have to say were excellent but overall the experience was a very disappointing one. What made it even more disappointing was the fact that at no stage during the meal did anyone come over, as is usual practice, to ask if everything is ok. And when I was paying, I wasn't asked then either. Had I been asked I would have outlined all these difficulties. Sent from Outlook for iOS

10/07/2025: We stopped at this lovely spot on our little road trip around the Atlantic way, it was a brilliant find. It looked so interesting from outside. The purple building with the craft stall, and sign with frieda kahla. We had two dogs with us and we were allowed to sit outside with them. We were welcomed by the lovely owner, who promptly told us there were fresh scones out of the oven and she had made apple and plum cake fresh that day. We were surprised the menu was vegetarian, but it was not a problem. The food was absolutely delicious!! I got the cheese and onion panini and it had mustard and relish and was so delicious. The cake was phenomenal! I also had a mocha. And it was the best I’d had this whole week! The stall out the front sells the owners crafts, there is lovely adult and children’s clothes. I got a dress for my niece and an apron for myself. I can’t wait to go back on our yearly visit to Downings!

05/07/2025: Lovely place for a break, all home cooked, fresh food, great selection of food and a very helpful and friendly service.

11/05/2025: Went for a family meal about 25 people a launch was book for 2pm and to the minute we were called to the tables it was a set menue the orders were taken prompt and about 7 ,8 minutes the food arrived it was super fresh and very tasty the boss man came around with extras and ensured every body was looked after . Staff were tops understanding there job, they also ensured the evening was spot on even down to getting a jug or extra gravy, and it arrived really quick .Value for money was 10/10 easy parking and loads of TV with the sports on but not also in you face . If in cavan town its local to the big main GAA center/pitch and you will not be disappointed over all one of the best around .

11/08/2025: I was there Sunday the 10th of August at 8.43am and the gentleman who served me, known as Lee Whelton was a brilliant worker, knows the running of the place and was so very helpful he was a star ⭐️!!

12/08/2025: Balcony with a great view, once you get used to the roof in front of you 😉 For an extra star, balcony furniture or at least a small table there, and maybe a hairdryer, would have been necessary. Some breakfast ingredients are available on site, and you can make coffee and tea not only in your room—also a plus. The restaurant is open Saturday and Sunday, the food is really good, and the student waitresses do their best.

03/08/2025: Had a meal there this afternoon. Waited nearly an hour for our meal then main course arrived but no vegetables. Had to ask for them when we had eaten nearly half of our meal. Service was extremely poor and I know it is a Bank Holiday weekend but they should be prepared when they know they are going to be busy.

19/11/2024: Food was lovely as usual, service was good, but once 8.20pm came, we felt like we had to leave, staff started cleaning up & setting the place for breakfast, mostly residential people there, I just felt pushed out.

13/10/2024: We dined in Porto’s for a birthday meal and we have a lovely time, the food was lovely. We had a very kind waitress, Hattie, she was extremely helpful and attentive

09/08/2025: After many visits to Glengarriff we always enjoy the welcome and the food with Joan and Johnny The seafood especially the homemade scampi is delicious as is just having a drink with a soup and sandwich food to suit all budgets We wish them continued success

14/02/2025: Coldest burger and chips we’ve ever had anywhere. Ordered there and then and took home which is a 3 minute drive away. Stone cold food. Very disappointing

12/02/2025: Asked for a veggie burger in there and the savage behind the counter threw a bit of lettuce between 2 bun's with red sauce on it and charged me €5 for it

24/04/2025: Perhaps we should have sticked to the cakes which looked delicious, but it was lunch so we had soup which was a joke. It was meant to be vegetable. It was very watery and tasted like stock cubes. The wrap and sandwich were ok but too expensive.

16/10/2024: The food and service was top notch The price was good . The restaurant has a beautiful artistic look and I loved the well and the fish down stairs.

03/09/2024: We just drove off the motorway to look for a quick snack. We didn't know then what a lovely surprise awaited us at the Gallery Café. There's a great display of artwork, the place is tastefully decorated and the tables spaced out reasonably well. The waitress was kind and helpful. The food simply delicious! Would definitely go again and would recommend to others.
