The best restaurants

01/06/2025: We were disappointed with several aspects of our stay at Slieve Aughty Centre: 1. Lack of professionalism: My girlfriend was hosting a women’s group activity (12 participants) and had specifically requested a curtain for the room used during the sessions. Despite repeated reminders and being assured it would be arranged, nothing was done. As a last-minute solution, a staff member tried to cover the window with a black rain jacket, which was neither appropriate nor professional. 2. Shower Issues: The hot water in our cabin ran out quickly, making it difficult to take a proper shower. 3. Overpriced Dinner: On Saturday evening, we stayed for dinner and were offered lasagna. No menu or price was provided, and we were later charged €70 for two portions, which felt unreasonable. We were not informed of the cost beforehand. 4. Breakfast Miscommunication: Our booking clearly included breakfast, yet the owner tried to charge us for it. Only after we showed the confirmation email was the charge removed. Beautiful surroundings, but the lack of transparency and professionalism made our stay disappointing.

22/02/2025: My daughter attends riding here, it's our favourite Saturday routine. The instructors are amazing, and we love the cafe. We finish the day off with a walk in the woods...stunning!

04/08/2024: We were guests of the hotel and they sent us a voucher for a meal deal 2 courses for 29 euro. When looking at the bill we realized that the voucher was actually more expensive than what we ordered. Basically they were false advertising a deal which is not there. We complained with the stuff but nothing was done to compensate. Food was decent although service was quite slow. Wouldn't recommend

04/09/2024: From the journey over to Heir on the 2pm ferry - €6 return (no charge for those with a travel pass) to the return journey at 4pm we just had a fab time. The lovely weather was a welcome addition to the experience. There is an inclined 10-15 min walk up from the pier to Island Cottage where we were greeted by Ellmary. The menu is no choice and I mean No choice. There is no wine list, however a very nice French red & white wine are available to diners. We sat at a communal dining table with some lovely people. The food is wonderful: medium-rare steak with a buttery mash on a red pepper jus (I could be wrong on this but it was lovely) followed by the lightest of lemon soufflé, Tea/Coffee with home made biscuits finished up the experience. We never actually caught sight of John the chef, as we left to catch the 4pm ferry - however we could hear the industry & smell the aromas eminating from the kitchen. Well done to you both. I look forward to returning.

28/07/2024: An amazing intimate restaurant experience. No menu choice. It is what it is and that’s that. Starter, mains and desert service with tea or coffee for €25! Wine available by the glass or bottle. We sat at a table of 8 and got to have cross table conversations with two lovely ladies and an actor and his Kazakstan partner. The setting was intimate and we got a sneak peek into the tiny kitchen with the husband cheffing. The steak and mash on a lovely sauce followed by a soufflé that melted in your mouth. The others at the table missed their ferry boat back and so we gave them a jaunt back .. So if you want an experience and to meet some fab people and have some lovely food try and book at table . Booking open 10am Tuesdays !

22/08/2024: If I could have given it zero I would have. Staff miserable, food horrible. Avoid at all costs!! Worst Indian take away we have ever had!!

15/07/2025: Finally managed to make a pit stop here on a long cross country journey. I remember it from its Post Office days long ago but wow how it’s changed. Such a transformation. Lovely decor , very attentive staff. I just wanted a quick toastie so didn’t explore the menu but it did seem extensive. Place buzzing. Totally recommend.

13/06/2025: Mega impressed with this coffee shop. Immaculately clean, tastefully furnished and decorated with a lovely atmosphere. Very friendly (and busy!) staff. Quality of the food and coffee was exceptional. If I could have swept it all up and brought it back with me I would have done!! Well worth stopping here.

08/05/2024: This is a takeaway restaurant . Pizza and wraps are nice, along with nice chips . Reasonable prices for what’s on the menu

23/11/2024: Uno de los mejores sandwiches de pollo de la historia. Tenía el sándwich de pollo frito de cajún y era MUCHO mejor de lo que podía haber imaginado. Muy recomendable. Suficiente especia para hacerlo interesante.
