20/01/2026: One of the high points of our CIE tour. The singer was a gas. The food was top notch. We were 100% satisfied.

15/09/2025: We hosted a hen party here on Saturday for 21 ladies, and it could not have gone better! The team were incredibly accommodating – they allowed us to set up our own decorations and food, and were so helpful with everything from start to finish. We had corkage on some bottles of prosecco for a welcome drink, and the staff went above and beyond making sure everyone’s glasses were always topped up, even when we moved up to the top deck. As we essentially ran an open bar with drink tokens for guests, it was great to see how respectful and honest the staff were – they made everything so easy for us and didn’t take advantage in any way. Another lovely touch was being able to connect our phones via Bluetooth for music, which meant we could play our own playlist on deck and set the perfect atmosphere. The whole experience was honestly the highlight of the day, and all of our guests had an absolute ball. Thank you so much to everyone at the Dublin Canal Boat Restaurant for helping us create such a memorable start to our hen celebrations!

10/02/2026: A very good tapas bar with excellent food and great cocktails.

08/02/2026: Food well presented but the taste was a let down. Sent back a dish because it was bland. Steak came out was mostly fat. Food was out within 10 minutes of sitting down which is always a bad sign.

16/10/2025: Wedding Venue of our dreams!! Wow! I can’t recommend the Avalon highly enough! Laura is a phenomenal wedding organiser who listens to your vision and brings it to life! She feels like a friend straight away who is fully invested in the day! Peter and Laura then make sure the day runs perfectly, remaining calm and positive throughout! The Avalon is the perfect place for a private wedding where you are the priority for the whole hotel! They could not have been more supportive! I can’t thank them enough for the most perfect day! All of our guests loved it commenting on the gorgeous food, friendly staff and homely rooms!

14/12/2025: Often pop in here for some chips and a hot drink while waiting for the buses that leave from the back. Lovely atmosphere. Always warm and friendly staff.

02/02/2026: We had our wedding reception at the Upton Court Hotel 21/01/2026, and from start to finish the experience was absolutely amazing. Shane and all of the staff were incredible, so professional, kind, and attentive throughout the entire process. All dietary requirements were catered for without any fuss, and the food was outstanding, with many compliments from our guests. The guest rooms were nice and very comfortable, again receiving lots of positive feedback. From the moment of arrival, there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel that put everyone at ease. A very special thank you to Shane for all of his support, guidance, and attention to detail, nothing was ever too much trouble, and it truly made our day stress-free and unforgettable. We couldn’t recommend Upton Court Hotel highly enough. Joseph & Anastasia

30/11/2025: Soup was chunky flavoured water with hard bread , roast beef was like a ready made meal from centra , no flavour to potatoes and veg was hard

05/02/2026: Section booked for a going away party. Plenty of empty tables. Would not serve more than one drink to large group that work in a nearby hospital as we ‘weren’t rugby fans’ according to the bar staff that said this and were very rude and condensing towards a large group made up of mainly women.

24/02/2026: My husband and I had such delicious seafood chowder five days ago and with the most wonderful waitress (I don’t remember her name, but she had short grey hair). I was planning on giving a 5 star review, but with touring Ireland, didn’t get back to it. We decided to come back to adorable Athlone for one last time and knew exactly where to go for a great meal and service. What a DISAPPOINTMENT today!!!! We were greeted by our waitress (mid length brown hair) with a dismissive wave toward the dining area and “take a seat anywhere “. After a while she finally came to us(we were the only ones there!) and asked for our order. Not what the standard…what drinks/appetizers would you like, nothing…just what do you want. The entire time she never returned to ask if we wanted anything else or how was our lunch. We had to go to another table to get more water! It is such a shame one waitress could ruin such a nice lunch. Hopefully, if you go, you will get the nice grey haired lady, or frankly, anyone else except this waitress. Whoever the owner is, you really need to reconsider this. From a 5 star five days earlier, to a 2 star today, and I’m being generous!!!!

14/02/2026: Stopped in Athlone to break a journey. Never so happy to have stopped. Amazing food, incredible choices. Option of dealcoholised wines.. a truly great find. Took a meal away for a person that could not be with us. Reheated to perfection...so would also be a great dine at home special dinner if needed. Will plan our trip around stopping here again.

13/03/2026: Stopped in for an early lunch while waiting to catch a train. Bar staff were attentive and friendly. Food was served quickly and came out piping hot. I ordered the bangers & mash and it was absolutely delicious. Couldn’t have picked a better dish.

19/11/2025: Found this pub really great. Superb staff and staff apart from one member of staff. A younger blonde woman who was quite unhappy and rude a couple of times while serving me. Overall well worth a visit
