13/06/2024: While the decor could benefit from a revamp, the same cannot be said of the food. Tasty, hot, reasonably priced, and delicious. Take the detour for the food alone. The service is good too.

31/10/2024: To whomever it may concern. if you are contpemplating on going to this establishment known as Friars rest I beseech you to quickly make haste from the idea. In my experience with this establishment it has been nothing but nauseating food coupled with a somewhat more sickening environment. I do not wish to disband the establishment or its workers with this review but something must be said immediately if they would be fond of common visiting. I quote the famous Gandalf from the works of J.R.R Tolkien when I hear that anyone is in this establishment "Fly you fools". Now I shall make haste onto the sustenance of this establishment. To be simply put the "Food" of Friars Rest is preposterous in every manor. To anyone from Derry reading this It was pure minging lad keep er lit. And to anyone not from Derry the vast and quite frankly indescribable nature of this food is beyond my linguistic capabilities currently and potentially ever. The "water" of Friars Rest is served in cups that appear to have been never cleaned or at least have not been perhaps since Friars Rest opened. The cutlery is riddled in finger prints and grime and potentially old saliva. They appear to have been never cleaned just like the glasses. The "Food" is repulsive especially the meat which does not appear to be cooked well. The chips are typically black in colouring and are coated in a thick layer of grease that will leave your mouth in a dusty sort of state. To conclude this review which I may continue at a later of date Friars rest is a Establishment to be avoided as of now. I give this advice not only to warn people but also to help improve Friars rest. All in all Friars rest must change with the times. It is living in the past with its decor and food. I hope that if I am ever in Friars rest again I shall see great improvement not only in the food but in the decor and atmosphere. Yours truly Canice

26/09/2024: I hate leaving a bad review because the staff were very nice....But it was a poor standard. Bathroom smells of mold..the shower curtain was ready to walk away..building works going on until after 9pm in a room 3 doors down. Started at 8am the following morning. Food in the bar very nice but couldn't recommend staying here overnight...

07/10/2024: "I've visited Hannans Hotel a few times now, most recently today Monday afternoon around 2 PM with a client for coffee. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The service from the female staff member was less than welcoming, and her manner came across as quite indifferent, lacking basic courtesies such as a smile or a simple 'please' and 'thank you.' Additionally, the demeanor of the receptionist didn’t contribute to a positive atmosphere either. I won't be returning again soon.

15/06/2024: We came here on our way back from turf stacking in Roscommon. We were all starving and stopped off here on a whim. We were all extremely pleasantly surprised with the food here. Amongst the starters that we ordered were the vegetable soup. Prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms and nobody was disappointed! The mains we ordered were the fish and chips, goujohns and chips, bacon and cabbage and chicken curry. The portions were enormous that we got the food boxed up to take home! That the waitress was more than happy to accommodate us with. To complete such a positive experience we got complimentary juice to the table. If I am ever back in Roscommon I will be back again!

04/08/2024: We went for a family dinner on our last night visiting our home country Ireland. I am disappointed to say it is one of the worst meals I have in Ireland when visiting. The place is so badly managed; it was chaos. The servers were fantastic to deal with such poor management. We had to wait an hour and a half until we could order . Then when the food finally came it was frozen chips, tasteless tough duck , barely edible. The poor waiting stuff looked so frazzled . They did their best. Poor food and poor service.

17/11/2024: The food was very tasty, indeed! Loved the Chowder and the Crab and Prawn cakes, among other things. Gaspar was friendly, and extremely attentive. Lively atmosphere without being overwhelmingly loud. A great experience overall.

02/11/2024: The food was ok. We are there during the autumn term break so two tables were parents with children. While radio music played over the cafe's speakers, a young boy entertained himself by use of his phone at full volume. A baby, barely 5 months old was exposed to a children's entertainment piece at full volume on a mobile phone. For lunch guests looking for a peaceful eating environment... This was not it, it felt more like a fast food chain seating area.

18/08/2024: We were the first people in before the kitchen opened and the boys at the bar were so welcoming asking was it ok if we waited 15 more minutes and got us drinks. We then ordered and my god, what a beautiful meal we received! I got the steak and it was delicious, my mum in law got the Irish Stew, hubby got burger and it was fresh and tasty. Everything was perfect. Lovely pub atmosphere and empty plates at the end. Go there!
