01/01/2026: The Wheelhouse Café is a lovely place to stop after visiting the castle. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it feels very relaxed and friendly. The coffee was excellent and the food was fresh and tasty, perfect for a break after walking around. The staff were kind and attentive, which really adds to the experience. It’s a great little café in a beautiful location, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

09/12/2025: Yes, this is also a tackle store and Garden centre, but the café is GREAT! The toasted sandwiches were HOT as was the carrot and sweet potato soup of the day. As HOT as they were, they were just as tasty!

03/09/2025: We had our wedding recently on Friday 29th August 2025 at The Upton Court Hotel. Thank you so much for helping John and I have the most magical wedding day. We are so grateful for your professionalism and the warm, friendly atmosphere you created for our guests and us. Shane and Beverley, you both were incredible during the planning process right up to the big day itself. You both were always so professional, quick to reply and friendly. Both Shane and Beverley went above and beyond for us to ensure we had the best day. Shane checked we were ok and that everything was the way we wanted on the day numerous times too, which was really appreciated! The staff at the hotel were lovely and ensured everyone was looked after. The food was absolutely amazing!! There was also no problem at all in facilitating those with dietary requirements. The teamwork of the hotel made everything feel effortless for us, allowing us to enjoy every second! There was plenty of space for our cake, selfie mirror, band and dancing!! The bridal room was beautiful and spacious with a double jacuzzi bath. The amount of compliments we received about the hotel, food and staff have been unbelievable! We also got some beautiful photos at Wells House which is only a short drive from the hotel. The house and grounds are stunning and make the most amazing backdrop for photos! 18/12/2025: First time here, not sure I would be back even though the food was tasty. I called ahead to order, asking if they take card payments, I was told no and that I could take money out in Centra at the ATM if needed. Order was a little slow but when it came to pay, I handed in the cash, 30 euros. I never heard so much complaining because I didn't have the exact change. Talking under his breath and making a big deal. If you don't take card payments and it's cash only, you should be able to give me back 6 euros without hassle and making me feel bad acting like I handed you a 100euro note.

17/10/2025: What a little gem of a takeaway, their food is fantastic. They cook everything fresh and their Indian food is just so fresh, plentiful and tasty. Their chips are also top notch!!! 👏 Up there with the best 👊😋

01/03/2026: Arrived in off the Galway train and was greeted with a hostile and horrible attitude. The food we ordered wasn't good enough to meet the price of it. We then had to order drinks separately , in no other restaurant have I had to order the two items separately. The lady serving at the carvery counter was very abrupt and angry with us for ordering food. No where in the bar or anywhere to my recollection had times written down , even so she just told us to hurry up as she was closing up and if we wanted anything we need to get a move on. I can't give zero stars but if I could I would. I would avoid this place unless you like rude customer service and subpar food. The bar men were to busy to approach to try and speak to someone from management.

28/02/2026: Went in here this week for an early breakfast before catching an early train... unfriendly staff... serious lack of manners on two men working there. Ordered, paid, ate and got out quickly. Disappointing.

25/01/2026: If you know you know , what a hidden gem. The food is outstanding every time we go. Better than the cobble or the quays hands down. I’ve left Killala for Yorkshire but we still fly over for a night in Ballina and the square is our first stop before a rake of ale. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

21/02/2026: We spontaneously decided to eat at The Dog House Blue's Tea Room, and unfortunately, the visit was very disappointing overall. The restaurant was practically empty except for one other table, yet we still had to wait over an hour for our food. Realistically, we could have cooked at home in that time. This was especially baffling because there was absolutely no stress or activity. The service was unfortunately very poor. There was only one server on duty, which wouldn't normally be a problem—but even with the restaurant empty, tables weren't cleared, and we weren't asked once if we needed anything or if everything was alright. In addition, the server dropped a cup; the broken pieces lay there for over an hour. This not only seemed unprofessional but also simply unhygienic. The food itself was mostly okay—not bad, but certainly nothing special. However, for the prices charged, the quality was outrageous. The price-performance ratio is completely off. At these prices, one expects significantly more than average food and minimal service. In the end, we paid €130 for four people. The price was okay, but the food simply wasn't worth it. The ambiance is indeed very cute and cozy, and it makes a good first impression. Unfortunately, a nice interior isn't enough if the food and service can't keep up. It can't be a fine-dining restaurant like this. Overall, it seems like a place with potential, but currently, it doesn't live up to its own prices, either in terms of organization or quality. We unfortunately wouldn't be coming back.

31/01/2026: The food is terrible. We got the seafood chowder, and there is barely any seafood inside, and it was microwaved cold in some parts, warm in others. We also got a pizza and a burger. The burger was dry and not great at all! The inside of the place is dirty. Will never go there again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Nous avons opté pour le plateau de fruits de mer avec huîtres, moules et hareng fumé Très belle et bonne assiette, tout comme les desserts Service sympa et efficace,dans un joli cadre loin des décors des pubs avoisinants (et repas plus calme …) Tout comme l’eau, la note est un peu salée (130 euros les 2 plates + 2 desserts + 4 verres), mais c’est l’Irlande …

31/10/2025: This place has gone to the dogs. Used to enjoy the fish. Then they stopped selling fish. OK, I'll get a beef burger. That was tragically bad. Dry like it had been sitting in a hot box all night. Then went on to the chicken. I've had the "Breast in a bun" 5 times now. 2 times out of the 5 it was nice. That's terrible odds with the prices they charge. It's just gone really, really downhill.

16/11/2025: A very comfortable hotel - slept really well both nights! It is in a great location for exploring many beautiful places in Donegal. Breakfast was fine - a small selection of cereal, fruit, juice, yogurt and then the usual cooked breakfast of fry, scrambled egg etc to order. The receptionists were very friendly. A few other reviews mentioned the road and our room was on the roadside but I can't say that I heard much traffic, its in a rural location so even on a weekend night there wasn't much going on so it wasn't noisy at all. I would stay here again; the only negative comment I have to make is they could do with cleaning their windows both inside and out!

27/09/2025: This place is surprisingly unstable. We visit occasionally, and are usually satisfied. Yesterday we were thinking about visiting during the oyster festival, but the prices are high. We get them delivered to our home, and with delivery, they're a third cheaper. A full dose is 18-24 euros straight from the farms. Nearby, at the Japanese restaurant, they were offering a gift tasting. Free. What a treat! Overall, maybe, but not great.

08/01/2026: A few of ur recently visited Germaine's pub / restraint on a Friday evening. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. We had a drink and some food, the food was good the portions were also good. Athmosphire,there wa none. There was one other couple there. The biggest problem for me was the cold. There was a stove benith the TV, that was it. We ended up putting our coats back on while having our meal. I came out with a runny nose, from the cold. It took me at least an hour to feel warm after going home.
