03/12/2024: I as really surprised by how good the food was and how friendly the staff were. We had a birthday party of 17 People and we had a nice sectioned off area to ourselves. The menu looked great all over and everyone complimented it. I had the chicken wings and then chicken curry. Both were tasty!

18/12/2024: Lovely warm welcome, big fires, wonderful staff and everywhere buzzing. We had gorgeous lunch, excellent beef and crunchy apple crumble, top class, excellent. Thank you, you all made sad, nostalgic trip to Athlone very alright!!

15/02/2025: Had a few afternoon drinks and a few of us had lunch nice friendly staff even tough we were a bit loud at times with our laughing but will go back again in November when we are in the area again you have been warned in advance 🤣.

09/02/2025: Just been here staff nice although probably worst beef dinner by far i had ever had 🤮! Straight from microwave a tint over gravy beef and Yorkshire burnt to a crisp beef like a foot ball definitely rubbish for me🤢👎🏼

30/03/2025: No tomato sauce! Shocked to have ordered the breakfast blaa and for there to be no tomato sauce. The beetroot ketchup was grotesque. Would not have ordered if I had known. Blaa was very dry

03/04/2025: Are people still eating there? Wouldn't recommend it to an enemy, same as McDonald's, Burger King. All cardboard and leftovers from the floor.

10/04/2025: There was 1 key at check in for 2 people. Went back to ask if we could get a 2nd key cut and were moved to another room. 2nd room had tea/coffee but no kettle, espresso machine or fan, so we grabbed them from the first room as to not bother staff. There was also no iron. Window hard to open. Safe hard to lock and couldn’t unlock it. Maintenance arrived and unlocked it manually. I asked how to relock it and he said he had bad English. I was a bit worried as I had to leave and had nowhere to store passport/cash. As I was leaving, a manager arrived and figured out the safe batteries were dead, so she gave me new batteries. Room service gave us new towels and water only but didn’t replenish coffee or milk. There is no fan in the bathroom. Shower was cold on 3rd day, and reception said to wait 20 minutes while they boosted the hot water. I had a do not disturb sign on the door, yet cleaning staff scared me by walking in without knocking. To note, there were no internal-only locks, which seemed a bit unsafe, especially considering we were told that a previous guest walked out with one of the keys to our original room. All in all, the room was clean, bed comfortable (as long as you don’t fall into the middle where two twins were pushed together) and location great. The issue is it is a 3 star hotel billed as 5 star, so overpriced/overrated. If it were listed as a 3 star and priced accordingly, there would be no issue.

29/03/2025: Called by as we were out looking at tiles. V pleasantly surprised. Food was lovely. Ordered houimi side salad and chips an my mother got roast beef. All very good and delicious bits(caramelised pecans, honey mustard dressing). Don't let the poor state of the entrance put you off!

19/01/2025: Went here today with family food was excellent very tasty, with a wide variety of dishes on the menu. Staff very friendly and efficient, absolutely love the new menu and will be back

05/01/2025: I love this place, the vibes, the tunes, the staff, iconic, immaculate! Updating this too cause I would highly recommend if one of your gang is the designated driver, as they've started doing mocktails and the Cuddle on the Beach was so good and very reasonably priced! Hoping they expand the mocktail range too but the cocktail range they have now is stunning should you be having a drink!

20/02/2025: Visited here a few times on a Friday for lunch - more often that not we are met at the door by an unfriendly waitress advising us the food will take approximately 35-40 minutes! We take our chances and go to our table and ask can we order but we're abruptly told there is a "queue" to order and we must wait our turn. The restaurant is approximately 70% full, the waitresses look miserable and the manager (I'm assuming she is the manager as she wears a blazer) is extremely sour with a poor manner. Eventually the food comes - and to the credit of the chefs it is delicious! But a restaurant that can't cater for lunchtime customers on a one hour lunch break seriously needs to review staffing levels and staff training. Of note on one occasion we had a male waiter who was extremely friendly - he is memorable as none of the others are.

15/02/2025: The food here was lovely, took my girlfriend out for Valentine’s Day, however the staff was chewing gum behind the till with a open mouth, not a pleasant sight to see while trying to enjoy our food, chewing gum shouldn’t be allowed yet alone chewed with a open mouth where food is being made and served.

28/03/2025: Lovely lovely food. Everything is fried, but prepared well. The black ink squid risotto is divine. We had great service, but the food is the best on our trip so far. Highly recommend!

19/03/2025: Have visited The Mad Monk many times, always an excellent experience and this time did not disappoint….beautiful food, great service. Full marks to Teresa, Zach and all the staff.

18/03/2025: Food was beautiful staff lovely and Guinness good , nice music there as always proper Irish pub can’t fault , probably best place in Doolin , anyone in doolin should take a trip to Fanore beach is beautiful and so many lovely walks to talk in

15/03/2025: A very full pub, but they'll always fit you in. I had a beautiful salad, with smoked salmon and brown bread... And the obligatory pint of stout! Very reasonable and excellent service. But hey, the music has started, magic..
