03/06/2025: We recently hosted our Day 2 of our wedding in the river terrace of Ashtons, and to say the team went above and beyond would be an understatement! We went for the BBQ option and the food was incredible (and plentiful!) and every single member of the Ashtons team were so lovely, and so attentive to all of our guests. We had a number of guests coming up to us making comments about how well run the whole event was! I couldn’t recommend it more for anyone booking an event, Gerry and the team were fantastic to work with.

07/03/2025: —- Oh guys what happened? Was going there for years and used to be great but now very disappointing! —- I know your in middle of renovations, but portion for chicken supreme was pigeon leg sized and in red wine gravy and mash… ehh and chicken supreme is usually in a white creamy sauce? Too expensive shrink-flationed portions! Bridges burnt won’t return.

25/08/2025: The worst pint I've had in a good while. Lack of foam and creaminess. Owner hates everyone. I will not be coming back, that's for sure.

24/08/2025: I am so disappointed. We were excited to hear some good music as advertised but it was all a lie. It was like waiting for Godot, no music ever came. The Irish (and especially the west) are known for their hospitality but the owner of this pub is anything but that. Unimaginably arrogant and hot-tempered, he's scary. As soon as he sees his pub has enough people to his liking, he will kick out any more incoming ones. He's luring people in for music that'll never play. I feel sorry for people which came to Clifden for one day only and wasted their evening like this. An evil liar. What a scam!

28/07/2025: Deleted my previous review but i’m like a bad smell I will not be going away too easy. Food was horrible, chips cold and staff unfriendly. This was about 2 months ago. Be professional and do something about your staff and food instead of slyly deleting reviews. Take accountability!

15/07/2025: Super nice staff also at the end of the night shift, friendly and served us with a smile even though they were about to close in 3 minutes.

26/07/2025: The service was alright and so was the food but the atmosphere created by the manager was absolutely horrible with her roaring at not only her staff but also the customers which is absolutely disgusting behaviour from someone of her position in the job and with all honesty if there won’t be any progress made by her to be a better manager caring about her own team and customers the place won’t be so nice to visit it anymore

08/06/2025: Awful place, you can't imagine a worse place! For six months, the cashiers still haven't learned to differentiate between drinks - you say "Sprite", they always give you "Coke". They constantly ask again, they have poor hearing, and sometimes it seems like they just don't listen. This is no longer an accident, but a systemic problem. The food is a separate disaster. They very often forget to put a burger or a wing. Or maybe they don't put it on purpose - how else to explain this constant "undercount" in the order? The service is disgusting, the attitude towards the client is like an empty space. I hope this place will either close or the staff will be completely replaced, because in its current form it does not deserve a penny.

19/07/2025: The revival of the historic house is beautiful, with charming buildings and rooms. However, the bar was lacking during our visit. The biggest issue was breakfast — it had to be ordered individually and took nearly an hour. We had a frustrating experience with breakfast. We asked to eat at 08:00, but ended up waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes — with children under 10 years old. This was far from ideal. Later, we found out there's a café less than a 15-minute walk away where we could have had a breakfast insted. All in all, it was quite disappointing, and we will probably not return.

15/04/2025: This property is very beautiful the location is really great however this hotel is not suitable for older people. The breakfast service was very terrible as we constantly felt rushed even though the hotel was fully and we did not get our seat promptly. I absolutely have no issues waiting for a table because I understand that the hotel was fully booked and busy however as soon as we sat down we felt extremely rushed both days that we ate there. The breakfast was tasty though. We asked for clean towels to be set in our room and when we got back the towels that they had replaced were extremely dirty and had brown spots on them. I told front desk about this and I thought they were going to notify the manager but they never did. We went there with my parents who needed help with their luggage since there are a lot of stairs in this property. The stairs are completely fine and it was in the listing so I completely understood. However when we went to the front desk to ask for assistance for my parents to help them with their luggage the front desk person was sleeping in the lobby we did not offer to help us at all. This was extremely unprofessional considering that my parents were older, and we had been told the front desk offer is 24 seven and they did not help us with their luggage at all. Overall the properties very beautiful but the staff is horrendous. I’ve never the type of person to leave a negative review but this truly blew my mind how terrible the service was.

07/08/2025: The food is delicious, served hot, that's very good. But we were served by a waitress who kept dropping something, first my fork, she replaced it... the girl was fussy and inattentive. But in the end, when there was a whole plate of chicken left and I had to put it in the box myself to take it with me 😟... the service as well as the attention to the visitors should have been better - more attentive and more helpful!

31/05/2025: Fabulous brunch spot. Our server joked around with us and made us feel right at home. Delicious soup, toast, sandwiches, and coffee. Decoration is lovely and seating is comfortable.

30/08/2025: We had a take away this evening, Saturday, it was very busy there. Sadly when we got back to our van to eat them the chips were so hard, dry and overcooked they almost broke our teeth. The fish was good but the batter was oily. Very disappointing.

29/08/2025: Very disappointed. Take away is frozen pre battered fish dropped straight into the fryer. Tasted like it too. Restaurant may be different.

21/07/2025: Stayed one night here on our way to the west coast and it was perfect. Room on ground floor was spotless and warm. Bathroom was fitted with walk-in shower and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was A1 , all local produce and severed piping hot. Freda was a perfect host and we will be staying again when we are passing.

29/07/2025: We had such a lovely evening here with old friends. The food was spectacular. My friends all had seafood which was incredibly fresh and delicious, while I opted for what was the best pizza I have ever had outside of Italy! Could not recommend highly enough.

25/07/2025: Great service by Eve & Excellent food by Orla - Seafood medley was delicious, mussels starter plentiful & pizza fully loaded - wine menu good & our 8 year old Granddaughter had a visit with the cats on the Patio - hope to get back soon again - Thanks so much 🙏🏻💚❤️

28/07/2025: Necesitábamos algo rápido para comer mientras estábamos recorriendo Galway y pasó por este lugar. Han preparado bocadillos, pero rápidamente fueron capaces de personalizar una deliciosa tostada para nosotros. IT fue excelente y una ganga estupenda a 5 euros.
