Steppers Bar & Restaurant
An clochán liath
05/07/2026: Accomodations spotless ,bed s really comfortable ,fantastic location for exploring Donegal all amenities close by supermarket, pharmacy etc ,lovely staff really enjoyed my stay here
30/06/2026: Somewhere between the Atlantic wind and the edge of civilized behavior sits Boyle’s Bar in Dungloe, a magnificent refuge for anyone wise enough to abandon the modern world. I stumbled through the door expecting little more than shelter from the weather and perhaps a respectable pint. Instead, I found myself trapped in one of those rare Irish pubs where time quietly packs its bags and disappears.
The Guinness arrived with the confidence of an old heavyweight champion. No gimmicks. No theatrical nonsense. Just a perfectly poured pint wearing a thick creamy head that looked almost too beautiful to disturb. Almost. Every sip justified another, and before long I was conducting serious investigative journalism into whether perfection could, in fact, be served repeatedly from the same tap. The evidence became overwhelming.
The billiard table stood in the corner like a sacred altar to friendly competition, inviting anyone foolish enough to believe they still possessed hand-eye coordination after two or three pints. Balls cracked across the felt while laughter bounced off the walls. Victories were celebrated with another Guinness. Defeats were cured with another Guinness. It was an elegantly simple economic system.
The large-screen televisions carried the day’s World Cup sporting drama, but somehow never overwhelmed the room. They weren’t there to dominate the pub. They were there to give strangers something to cheer about together before immediately returning to the far more important business of solving the world’s problems over pints.
This wasn’t one of those polished tourist traps where someone in a marketing office has carefully manufactured “authentic Irish atmosphere.” Boyle’s doesn’t have to pretend. The character has been built pint by pint, story by story, year after year. You can feel it in the conversations, hear it in the laughter, and see it in the easy rhythm of locals and visitors sharing the same space without anyone trying too hard.
By the time I finally stepped back outside, the rain had stopped, my internal clock had completely surrendered, and I was left with only one logical conclusion. Boyle’s Bar is dangerous in the very best possible way. You arrive intending to have one pint and watch a few minutes of sport. Hours later you’re halfway through another flawless Guinness, arguing about football with people you met twenty minutes ago, considering a game of pool you’ll almost certainly lose, and wondering why every pub on earth can’t operate with this same effortless magic.
If there is any justice left in this strange, beautiful world, Boyle’s Bar will continue pouring perfect Guinness long after the rest of civilization has disappeared under the weight of overpriced cocktails and self-important craft beer menus. Until then, I’ll gladly keep returning to the scene of the crime.

Windsor Bar & Restaurant
Dundalk
14/06/2026: We walked in the restaurant based on great reviews here on Google Maps. We were travelling from Canada. Service wasnt good. Lacking eye contact. It felt awkward so we didnt order another round. We just got up and left. We stayed at many places and had a great trip but this restaurant made us feel awkward or outcasts. I dont know what it was but it was weird. The meal was excellent though.
10/06/2026: I was delighted to be part of a group from Dundalk Food & Drink that visited The Windsor at the end of May, when we were treated to a showcase of the best food that the restaurant has to offer. I enjoyed my choice of a starter of chicken & mushroom risotto, followed by a tasty (and generous) hake tempura with saffron sauce. Marieta Rías Baixas Albariño 2024 and Segredos de São Miguel Alentejano 2023 were the wines on offer. A warm welcome and excellent service added greatly to our visit. 👏👏👏 to all the staff!

13/07/2026: They say 30 minutes to everyone who walks in but Average wait an hour. Also very long wait for food. Kitchen serves 2 floors. Not bad but not worth wait.
12/07/2026: The food was very good, the Irish coffee exquisite, and the service from the Brazilian waitress Judy was unbeatable.

Galway
25/07/2026: Exceptionally prepared seafood dishes with a mix of classic & innovative flavors (apple slaw with crab; sweet & sour sauce with the oysters). Knowledgeable & friendly staff, cozy environment.
25/07/2026: Outstanding from beginning to end. Go for the fish, and stay for the trio of creme brulees dessert - never seen or tasted anything like it!

The Kingsley
Cork
18/05/2026: Not too far from Cork city centre stands a beautiful hotel on the banks of the river. Rooms are of a good size, clean and beds are very comfortable.
Staff are lovely, professional and pleasant, and they can only bested by the food served.
Everything from the goats cheese tartlet through to the incredible beef mains was nothing short of exceptional.
To top it all off, a trip to the spa, including the outdoor heated (really warm) swimming pool.
Overall, a really pleasant experience, and worth every moment.
09/05/2026: Booked the Kingsley for our son's communion and I can't fault anything.. the staff were amazing and my son even got a communion card and dessert from the Kingsley for his big day.. will absolutely be booking with the Kingsley again. Fantastic day

Hooked
Galway
12/07/2026: Horrible Service experience ever!
We came in with three kids 2-11 years old.
She told us she's having one table left for 1,5 hours which we agreed on.
I directly mentioned the wish to order already the kids dish with our soup as a starter and asked if the fish which is served is fresh wild caught quality? She didn't know? We asked if she can ask the kitchen team...while she was "trying" figuring out (which kinda ruined her mood!)...we ended up with the decision to have no starters instead getting all plates together just to speed things up, we repeated that wish and got it confirmed from her side.
She couldn't figure out our question but told us they have only farmed fish, which was confusing because the online description says quite the opposite, so we told her we choosed the local because of the online description which tells people that they are offering fresh wild caught fish she was over acting (we have been very friendly and that was just a normal question not more or less...I don't expect that she or the team has the knowledge about everything because she could be new, the chef wasn't doing the fish order by himself or he was just not in the house whatever!) "she's only the waitress that's what's the kitchen told her" because of her "aggression sound" I apologized and tried to explain her "I was just wondering and that was just a question?!" Her sound switched calmer again and she started explaining that actually no one knows if the fish is wild or not! Again that was all fine with us...because with three kids seated and waiting for food you're fine with everything what comes...but sadly nothing came for the kids. We got our soup after 25 min waiting (and the soup was excellent best seafood chowder ever) but we have been still waiting for the kids dish after 10 min (we've been ignored) we decided to share it with the kids, which loved the soup and wanted to have their own on top. Finally she was showing up again
we asked her: "the kids dishes are coming right?"
Waitress:"Yes"
We: "we would order another one of those soups"
Waitress: "Fine"
After 15min the soup showed (no spoon for the kids, not once a question if everything is alright...ignored again, gave already the kids a used spoon) up but still not the plate which we order to share for the youngest a two year old which was already starting to cry because she was so hungry and frustrated. Asking again the waitress where the food is? She explained that the dishes taking their time in the kitchen and we have to understand that! No apology/sorry...nothing...crazy!!!! So after a bit more than one whole hour our little one got something to eat with an apology from another waitress (and finally some cutlery as well!)...the waitress which served the rest of our food was super lovely...and the food was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I prefer to share the good also I was working as a waitress for 20 years by myself and had a team under my fingers with a lot of newbie's ect (first rule if something wents wrong "SORRY"!).
So the second waitress and the kitchen deserves full points and I hope the other waitress learns something because our restaurant experience in total was still sadly terrible... to see and hear our little one starving and crying ect, everyone from us was really upset in this restaurant situation and that's not what you want. Mistakes happen to all of us and that's all fine...at least you can say sorry, or offer a lil treat for the kid (whatever!). One last point if you're coming with kids and maybe you have to wait a bit longer...I was so glad that we packed some pencils and coloring books by ourselves because that's something we've been missing here as well.
Stars only because I know we had bad luck and the food was so good also the other waitress was friendly to us!
12/07/2026: Very fresh fish and fair prices. Very friendly staff.

11/07/2026: Everything was excellent! The food was delicious, and we were very happy with the service. A special thanks to Giuseppe, our waiter, whose Spanish was outstanding despite being Italian. It was wonderful to see someone so passionate about his job and genuinely committed to making our experience memorable. Thank you so much! We highly recommend this restaurant.
08/07/2026: Myself and my wife were there this last Saturday night around 7pm.
The place was nearly empty for food but we were still seated right beside the door opposite the bar ( about 8 feet away from the bar drinkers.)
I've never before been hungry having paid nearly €42 for a steak dinner.
This is the epitome of gouging on a national level.
It advertises as a restaurant.
It's overpriced bar food.
Scandalous.
I've decided to give the place some free advertising on X.
Its gaining traction as we speak..

And the fire was absolute perfection, especially after a cold hike up Knocknarea. 🔥

06/06/2026: Had a great time here. Just popped in for one for a pub crawl, then after seeing Guiness and oysters everywhere we thought we may as well. Guiness was good as usual and the Oysters were fantastic, even better paired with lemon and the homemade hot sauce (highly recommend) served to us by the legend Philip (who also made the hot sauce) great experience!
22/05/2026: Nice boozer. Lovely pints, but the food was wanting. Portion size was a little on the small size, but overall experience was good.

Dublin Skylon Hotel
Dublin
02/07/2026: Room was clean, got the right amount of towels. However the restaurant was disappointing in it's portions, and the best sheet was always open on one side like they got a sheet that was too short and just ran with it. Also the windows open upward and i was too short to be able to reach it without standing on a chair or being lifted. Next to a bus stop and easy access to the city, and there is an amazing pub on the right and down the road.
17/06/2026: This is a very convenient spot from the airport and surrounded by nice restaurants and handy shops. The room was spacious and well appointed and the staff were very helpful. The folks are the bar made an extra effort to create a good atmosphere. I'd definitely stay again!
