26/11/2025: We had a wonderful evening at Fatted Calf. The ambiance was beautiful, and lovely background music played softly. The welcome was warm and inviting. The service was attentive, humorous, and never intrusive! The food was divine! The combination of the appetizer with the black pudding croquettes, the scallops, and the various sauces was an explosion of flavor! Thank you! For the main course, the meat was tender and juicy with a delicious chimichurri sauce. Wonderful! The desserts were simply amazing! Our restaurant visit was the highlight of our time here in Athlone!

28/03/2026: We made a last-minute booking after another restaurant cancelled our reservation for being just two minutes late. Fortunately, this turned out to be a great experience. The food was excellent, and the customer service was outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The meal was a perfect 10/10, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, taking great care of me and my friends. I would highly recommend this place any day.

08/12/2025: The first place (in a loonnngggg time, if ever before) that the person who met us at the door (& even helped clear off the table we got to sit at) - took our order brought us our food, brought us our bill AND took payment for a great Dinner..., 'twould be great if more places would be THIS attentive to their customers..., it just felt more homely/personal. Also, a big Thank You to everyones "Uncle" Monto, the proprietor.

02/12/2025: Grand little spot altogether. Popped in for a morning coffee last Saturday and couldn’t fault it – smooth, hot, and exactly what I needed to start the day. Ended up grabbing a nice bottle of wine for the evening as well. Staff were sound and the place has a lovely relaxed vibe.

23/12/2025: In the end, I wasn't a big fan of the Bubble waffle batter. I'd recommend the flat waffle that my wife and kids chose instead.

After trying their waffles, I actually became a waffle lover they’re incredibly delicious♥️. It’s definitely one of the places I’ll keep coming back to. 14/03/2026: Loved the vibe here! The slow-cooked chicken burger was amazing — and halal, which made it even better. Honestly, I was so hungry I couldn’t even stop to take pictures 😅 The manager was super friendly and even kindly offered me a separate space to pray, which I really appreciated. 5 ⭐ to this place — highly recommended!

14/03/2026: We were early for our booking, but the place was empty. Lovely full bar and so we relaxed with drinks. My husband had a lovely pizza and I had fish and chips. My chips were fresh and hot, but unfortunately my fish was lukewarm in a soft non crispy batter. Definitely not cooked fresh. It arrived on top of a spread of mushy peas which were dried out, so the fish had a soggy bottom. Raging I didn’t say anything, but I actually wasn’t that hungry. I wouldn’t order again and certainly not at that price. We were let down.
