The best restaurants

22/05/2026: Have lived nearby for 20 years. This used to be our regular go-to for a fish & chips maybe one a month. It's was usually consistently good now it is consistently mediocre to poor, mainly the quality of fish and lack of crispy fresh batter. So, we've switched to a different local chipper, its marginally better. If these guys could do a descent fresh batter cod I would try again, but the price of a fresh cod is too expensive to waste on a bad quality one though.

13/06/2026: Had a disappointing experience. We ordered biryani,freaking biryani had peppers and tasted rice mixed with garam masala. Rogan Josh was some generic curry. I asked if there was Chai, he said yes, served with a pot of tea before meal ! Naan was ok. Can't believe in 2026 they get away with such poor quality pretenting indian food.

30/05/2026: We were there on a Monday and while it was not busy. Loved the arrangement of the tables which gives enough space for customers to move without disturbing the table next to them. Food is amazing and the music they played were not too loud..Highly appreciate that.

18/06/2026: The sandwiches I ordered were prepared swiftly and professionally, by a nice worker who calmly told me when some ingredients were out. The sandwiches were delicious and warm, and I ate them in the seating available in-store. I also got some nice cookies and a fanta, all excellent. The music playing in store is good too! There is charging available at the seating with USB and wall plugs.

03/05/2026: One of the nicest chinese take aways iv had for a long time. I got shredded chicken starter and house special sweet and sour. Delicious 😋

07/06/2026: I order a 3/1 for delivery. First of all they told me the food would be a half a hour it took ONE hour. When I received the food there was a bad smell of a burning fag. I then tasted the food to see if it tasted weird and it tasted like a biting ash tray.

24/05/2026: the food was hard as a rock, too crispy, i had to spit out the chicken because it was to hard i cant eat here nomore i payed 10€ for rock chicken i thought the was 10/10 but this time was -5/10 also there was on my food

10/06/2026: It is good and fast, the food is always amazing and for some reason, it's never busy, really good food I like the people working there 100% going again. Kebabs are great, pizzas are lovely ( that's my opinion) and the sauce is chefs kiss

29/08/2025: Standards have dropped dramatically. Was a regular visitor to this hotel and would visit 2-3 times a year and brought family and friend regularly. My last two stays I have to say were terrible. We went as 2 adults and 2 children. First time people smoking in the rooms with the doors open I reported it and nothing happened the same the next night and was told its probably coming in from the balcony. People shouting and banging all hours of the morning and again nothing done. The quality of breakfast is probably a 3 at best where it was always 9-10 and then I was charged an extra €2 for a cappuccino at breakfast (never seen that before ANYWHERE). spoke to the waitress and was told there's a new chef and it's just been brought in.Got in touch with the hotel afterwards to complain and got 3 different people to email. Eventually the manager got in touch much with me and apologised and offered me a deal to return and to just contact him that he wants to prove it was a once off.. When I did eventually contact him for a return for 2 adults 2 children and returned it started on check in. First room we were giving was one double bed 1 single bed ,I went back to reception and giving another room and again it was 1 double one single. I went again to reception to ask was this a joke. The girl gave me keys to another room and told me to check the room first to see if it was okay. The room was downstairs and didn't feel like part of the hotel. There was plenty of beds but the double bed mattress was wafer thin and very uncomfortable. I rang reception and the other lady came and brought me to another room 512 and asked was it okay. It looked good and had the double and 2 single beds as required. The lady apologised and was very helpful. When my son sat on his bed he nearly fell off it as the base was broken, again I called reception and the lady came back and seen the bed and again apologised and went and got a base off another bed. We just accepted it as we Had Been through 4 rooms already at this stage. First morning breakfast was okay and fresh but the next morning we were waiting on bits to come out from the kitchen then got burnt breakfast and was served our milk in a teacup with not even an apology. I reported all this to the manager by email when we got home and his response was. ,thank you for your feedback.. So if that's the general managers response it says it all. Cannot see myself returning here anytime soon and can not recommend this hotel to family or friends.... Just seen this hotel is now up for sale so that explains why the management couldn't care less....

15/07/2025: The D Hotel is closed to tourists until 2027. It is being used as a Refugee Reception Centre until then.

25/06/2026: I go here quite regularly after work. Not anymore On numerous occasions the girls behind the till are extremely rude I have gave them the benefit of the doubt in the past because English isnt their fist language. I was the only person waiting for food and the woman behind the till screams my order at me. I say yes that's me. She continues to shout my order at me. To which I reply "yes yes yes" And the woman serving me begins to mock me by saying "yes yes yes" in reply!! I know there is a language barrier here but this is simply rude. Maybe take a few lessons in manners please madam. Other than that the food is very average. So won't be back. Plenty of better quality chippys up the hill

30/05/2026: Well. Asked for the mixed kebab and when I opened it I didn’t expect the chicken to be cut up bits of breaded chicken but I’m sorry, can I get some meat with my salad? Embarrassing the lack of meat in this kebab! No bigger potion size either and it comes in a small bag (filled with salad). Not impressed!

22/04/2026: APACHE Portlaoise is the best Apache. I think this Apache could be much better with their pizzas…

12/02/2026: I ordered online, wasn't given an option to set a time to collect my order but for some reason it swtu collection time to 2 and a half hours after I placed the order. I arrived in the lashing rain, not a single staff member in sight for about 5 minutes, finally someone appears and asks if I want to order, I say I'm waiting on an order. He darts back to god knows where. Other customers call out for staff but no one appears. I cannot see any food being prepared. 15 minutes after arriving it's just me there, no staff, no other customers. For 5 minutes I call out to the empty staff area. Finally the staff member returns, I am in a very upset state, saturated, starving and starting to tear up as I ask if my order is ready yet. Immediately the staff member pulls out the order receipt and tells me about the time set,, before telling me it's my fault. I am shocked because I didn't set that time. Suddenly he raises his voice and keeps giving out to me repeating that it's my fault and that I should have told him about the error I didn't know about. He barely lets me get a word in as I try to ask to cancel the order because I don't have the time to wait another however long it will take for him to make my food. I eventually left. I am never ordering there, I am disgusted with the lack basic decency or social skills, I am autistic and even I know not to give out to a crying person. If you want to get pizza in Carlow, Dominos is better.

02/07/2026: Spice box is delicious comes with curry dip for free price is good compared to other spots

14/06/2026: I ordered beef fried rice from them around 10:45pm- 11pm, asking them would they be able to deliver it to my house like leave it outside as I won’t be home from work until 1am. They were very attentive and making sure about everything as well. The only thing that I think it’s not good is that the beef fried rice is a little bit bland. Other than that everything is good. Either way , I’m very grateful and thank you for doing it for me.

17/05/2026: The live music on the weekends is unbelievable… Is what I would say if it was even the slightest bit enjoyable. Used to be a nice pub

13/01/2026: Normally a perfect Chinese. But tonight order was messed up and offered to keep the wrong delivery after overpaying and told it wasn't there fault all I wanted was my prawn toast hopefully you dont get the customer service I got tonight

08/11/2025: The food is very good. That too for students its very affordable. Unlimited buffet with actually good items. From starters to main course. I recommend everyone to at least once have food from here.
