20/08/2026: Very quaint and authentic. Friendly staff, no long wait for food and drinks – the stew and pie were delicious, and the prices, even for the Guinness, were perfectly reasonable. If you want to try Irish cuisine beyond fish and chips, this is the place to go. We were completely satisfied and can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!

30/07/2026: From the moment we first visited until the day we said "I do" our experience at the Stephouse Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. We chose it as the venue for our Wedding & it truly exceeded every expectation! All of the staff went above & beyond to make our day perfect, especially Benny,Becky,Sarah,Alan, Bridget & Lee.Every detail was handled with professionalism,warmth & genuine care which allowed us to relax & enjoy every moment with our family & friends.The hotel & gardens for our ceremony were stunning, the food outstanding and the service was flawless from start to finish. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the hotel was,how delicious the meal was & how welcoming everyone made them feel. We couldnt have asked for a more magical setting to celebrate our special day. A huge thank you to the entire team and Cait & James for making our Wedding Day so unforgettable. 15/06/2026: Our group of 17 friends, travelling from different counties, chose The Step House in Borris, Co. Carlow as our meeting point for a night away together, and what a fantastic choice it turned out to be. From the moment we arrived, everything was first-class. We enjoyed a light lunch in the bar before taking a fascinating guided tour of Borris House, located directly opposite the hotel. The tour lasted around two hours and provided a wonderful insight into the rich history of the area. Afterwards, we spent some time exploring the charming village before returning to the hotel to relax and prepare for the evening. Dinner in the main restaurant was booked for 7pm, and it exceeded all expectations. The menu was excellent, the food was beautifully presented, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive, friendly, and professional throughout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Following dinner, we enjoyed a nightcap in the bar before retiring to our rooms. The accommodation was comfortable, spotless, and ensured a great night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was equally impressive. Afterwards, we took a lovely walk through the village to the viaduct, enjoying the beautiful surroundings before returning to the hotel for tea, coffee, and a final catch-up. Before headinghome, we all agreed that this would not be our last visit. In fact, we are already planning a return trip later in the year for a festive Christmas getaway. The Step House offers exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, comfortable accommodation, and a wonderful location. We couldn't recommend it highly enough and are already looking forward to our next stay.

04/08/2026: Visited yesterday evening for a dinner while passing through. Very friendly staff working well when busy, unfortunately food was not up to scratch. Had turkey and ham , was very bland. Veg was very soft and bland too almost like a bag of frozen mixed veg...Everybody likes their food to be hot but the food was ridiculously hot must have been blasted in an oven ,plate would scald you. Got a baby bowl for my daughter and she could not even begin to eat it for good 10 mins or it would have burnt the mouth off her. Ordered goujons & chips from kids menu for my son and asked for couple of extra goujons if possible instead of chips for him, hes autistic and will only eat the chicken. After a long wait, 5 to 6 of the smallest over-cooked goujons came out for him , and I was charged 13e for them which I taught was a bit expensive. As I said staff friendly, relaxing atmosphere cant fault them but we were disappointed with the quality of the food especially for the price point.

07/09/2026: What a fantastic experience at the Rusty Mackerel! 🌊🍀 Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Slieve League cliffs, this is the perfect place to soak in the beauty of Donegal while enjoying great food, drinks, and authentic Irish hospitality. 🏔️✨ One thing we really appreciated was the considerable amount of space available, along with a convenient car park 🚗, making it easy for visitors to stop by and relax without any hassle. For our mains, we ordered the Traditional Fish & Chips 🐟🍟, the Rusty Mackerel 🐠, the Fisherman's Pie 🥧, and the Chicken Burger 🍔. Every dish was delicious, generously portioned, and clearly made with quality ingredients. The seafood in particular was fresh and full of flavour. We also enjoyed a few pints of Guinness 🍺, poured to perfection with that authentic creamy taste you'd expect from a traditional Irish pub. A unique touch that stood out was their iconic practice of painting a design on top of the Guinness foam 🎨🍻, which added a bit of fun and character to the experience. It's great to see that they've also introduced accommodation options 🛏️ for visitors who want to stay longer and truly experience the traditional Irish pub culture. With live music happening every evening 🎶🎻, it creates a fantastic atmosphere where locals and tourists can come together, enjoy the craic, and make lasting memories. 06/09/2026: We stayed at the Rusty Mackrel based on a recommendation and found it to be brilliant, the room was a bit small but fine for a short stay. We had dinner there and the food was top notch, freshly prepared and quality ingredients, our waitress Ava made sure my wife had the exact food she needed for her dietry requirements. Very impressive, I had the fish and chips which was delicious. We then had a few drinks in the bar and again the staff were friendly and professional. The prices were ok for a tourist destination and I will be returning as theres lots more to explore in ghe area. I have no real negatives to say but I personally recommend the Rusty Mackrel as a brilliant plase to experience

10/08/2026: Five stars all around. Popped in for late lunch / early dinner for a family of four this evening and we were greeting by friendly staff and a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was delicious - the menu is extensive, including lots of gluten free and vegan options and great mocktails. Highly recommend the open house chicken burger!

16/07/2026: My holiday at Clybaun Hotel was fantastic! 🤩 The rooms were so comfortable, and the service was excellent. I loved the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. 😌 The location is brilliant too; there's a bus stop literally right outside with links to the city center! 🚌 Absolutely perfect stay. ✨
